"why we are still need FD even though we have ASB/Unit Trust option with better ROI?"
*
1. Not everyone won the genetic lottery to be entitled for ASB subscription
2. ASM, AS1M, ASW2020 subscription for non bumi are hard to get.
3. Other unit trusts, are subjected to volatility, you may loose your money during tough time.
4. FD is the only one has the following traits: safe, easy to apply, acceptable return

Just to share my case here, so might not apply to your case cos I am not sure.

I have eFD with MBB before this. To capture a promo FD I was needed to do a placement over the counter.
I remember the teller said "when the maturity date you can take this cert to withdraw at any branch".
At this point  I did not know that this branch will move out/close/restructure next year.
*
Thank for the sharing. I asked my friend working with Maybank, he said policy changed, now cannot withdraw from other branch. Look like gonna lose few days of interest sad.gif

That is because they are fixed price fund, so their price will always fixed at rm1.

What will vary is their dividend, which may be higher or lower from year to year.

And similar to other unit trust, their capital and return are not guaranteed or safe in the event the institution collapse unlike FD product which has PIDM protection assurance smile.gif

So looking for better FD promo in coming months may not be realistic. But it depends on whether BNM will lower the OPR in Nov or not. biggrin.gif

I will foresee the current rate will stay put.
BNM has indicated still need time to observe the effect from previous cut.

For me, no need to wait, will secure whatever the best available now (HLBB eFD 4%, UOB 3.95%, RHB 3.9%)

Someone has mentioned CIMB got 4% or 4.1%, verified ?

I typically just go with the best rate avail now instead of putting short term waiting for better promo. Putting short term only when there is a need say 1 to 3 months later. biggrin.gif

Hard to believe on the CIMB 4.1% unless it is really a BIG sum.
