Just make sure to set the flashing mode to "Flash all / Clean all" located in the bottom right corner of the MiFlash Tool. This will wipe everything including TWRP Recovery. It'll be replaced by Global Stock Recovery (black-white Xiaomi phone and cable pix).
This process should take less than 15 minutes.
Once booting, it'll take less than 15 minutes to get to the MIUI setup page.
Noticed that Xiaomi devices seems like not compatible with D-Link routers..my Redmi Note 3 and my father Redmi Note 3G keep disconnected from Wifi and sometimes it wont connect automatically..
But other device which is not xiaomi no problem at all..
In the router settings: Change the 2.4GHz Band to Channel 3, 6, or 10 and/or.... Change the 5GHz Band to Channel 40 and below....

Damn....i don't really like miui. All the problems is due to miui. If not were for the mi phones to be cheap, i would have bought other brand. Like nexus or something...
Here is my experience with trying to root the phone. Hope it help others trying something adventurous like this and not get into obstables like me.

1) wanted to just ROOT the phone. Not really interested in custom roms or kernels and so on.
2) Read a lot of guides and tutorials with different method of flashing. There are unofficial root method and there are official root method. So I decided to go with official as the unofficial method is said to cause problems.
3) First thing that need to be done is unlocking the bootloader. So I applied for it and got reply after few days. Then try to unlock but stuck in 50% with error saying cannot verify the phone.
4) found out that global stable rom cannot be bootloader unlocked. Need to flash the phone to china dev rom in order to unlock.
5) spend the next few days reading about china dev rom flashing. Only method is using EDL. The latest official miflash does not work for EDL. It cannot detect my phone in EDL. So had to use older version 20151028 for my 64bit windows 10. After may tries, it end up hard bricking my phone. Cannot boot at all. Even tried opening my phone method to unplug the battery and all but still cannot boot. Probably the bootloader is screwed as the EDL flash stopped like 10%.
6) Not sure what caused it but I think it's because of my front USB not working properly. Spend the next week claiming warranty from vendor. Went to claim warranty from Legend mobile. Luckily they manage to reinstall the rom and that guy installed global rom for me (eventhough I asked for china dev rom). Nevertheless, I am still have as the phone is back to normal and I collected the phone 1 week later.
7) Then I tried to flash again. This time I used miflash 20160401 and usb connected to the back. Crossed my finger and it successfully flashed. At last!!!
8) After 1 day checking the phone running fine in the china dev rom, I proceed to unlock bootloader. This time it works! Bootloader unlocked success!
9) Next stage is try to install TWRP and root the phone.
10) tried the TWRP and though not as smooth but it succeed. Root also succeed. Problem here is because china dev rom is using marshmallow. The system is encrypted. TWRP is unable to mount it. Followed some guide and got it working.
11) I was gonna stay with china dev rom until got advice from kawans here that better to use global stable because china dev is very problematic.
12) decided to flash back to global stable. So I used the fastboot method. After flash back, spend the next day using it and all.
13) next stage is to root it. When i try booting to TWRP, it is not showing. It shows mi recovery instead. Looks like TWRP is overwritten when I flash back to global.
14) Nevermind...I will flash TWRP again. But this time it failed. Then found out my bootloader is locked again!! Darn it. Don't tell me all I have done and it's back to square one!!!!!
15) Ok fine...I try to unlock bootloader again. This time it works on global rom. Probably cause once I used the official unlock method, the next time it will work in any rom that I am using.
16) Then install TWRP and root the phone all SUCCESS.
17) Right now, just enjoying the phone in global stable with root.
18) enough of rom flashing for me for now. Took me like few weeks with this. Xiaomi really need to improve their tools for flashing and unlock and recovery.
The journey to become Fong Sai-Yuk.... LOL...

Just wanna check, after I flash my MTK unit, will I still have those bloatware like Clean Master and some rubbish apps? I will need to install Google Play Store myself right? I don't recall seeing my sister's unit comes with Mi Store App by default, I presume it will appear after I flash to Fastboot ROM.
Sigh. I guess my sister really bought the wrong model. Didn't know there are Pro and MTK.
All China-based ROM don't have PlayStore. China government banned Google access over there. So, just flash the Xiaomi.EU ROM instead. Your unit is "Hennessy". Ensure backup before Unlock Bootloader.
p/s : The consultation charge is RM1,000 x 0.1 hour...

Yes, know about the Google's limitation. China is like my second home, travel there once every few months. OK, I will flash to EU ROM then. By reading the link which GameSky shared earlier, it seems Windows 8 and above users need extra step to disable digital driver signature. https://thebroodle.com/android/install-medi...-windows-8-8-1/ If that's the case, Windows 7 will be a better option? Then, I will use my office laptop... I will view your YouTube again.
No matter which Windows OS we use, just kill: 1) Windows Firewall 2) Windows UAC 3) Windows Dedender (if any) 4) Any 3rd party anti-virus/firewall 5) Disable driver signature (Win 8 and above)
... I was thinking if these are correct? I just need to flash to fastboot, then unlock bootloader and lastly flash to EU firmware?
Please pardon me as I'm very new to MIUI. I could have left the phone just like it is now but I really want to do something to it before I return it back to my sister that is after I get back my own phone first la. I don't want to brick it and I don't have anything to use.
First priority is to unlock bootloader via China Dev ROM (which could be already in that unit now...?).
After unlock bootloader, you r free to do whatever u want, I.e. Xiaomi.EU flashing...
You r a responsible sister, can u be my sis...? j/k...
Actually I know you here in LYT way back 5 years ago...but I always changing my LYT nickname...like this nickname is already my 10th ...
Alright got it! Then, what is this fastboot ROM for? Am I right to say I don't need to flash fastboot if I want the Xiaomi EU?
It's not called fastboot ROM. It's called "fastboot" update/flash. In order to update/flash via fastboot method, the ROM has to be compatible, ie. the file extension is .TAR/.TGZ. This file has to be extracted first (perhaps twice using WinRAR) before can be used in MiFlash Tool or MTK SP Flash Tool.
You have to ensure ur Hennessy is running China Dev ROM in order to unlock bootloader. FYI, unlock bootloader approval is from Xiaomi China and may take UP TO 7 days. So, your sis may not be getting back her phone if u could not unlock bootloader in time. Well, unlock bootloader process is not simple:
If you feel the risk is high, just abandon the task.
But assuming every thing is in order, after flashing to Xiaomi.EU ROM, the device will be better than the time she had it last January...wayyyy better...it's worth the effort...

Quick question, my bootloader's already unlocked officially I'm using latest global dev rom now, and I wanna go back to global stable rom If I were to use edl method to flash global stable rom, will it RELOCK my bootloader?
Hooraayyyyy... The PITA has ended....
No need edl method, just FASTBOOT method will do...Fastboot does not re-lock bootloader...
Backup first and inside MiFlash Tool, use "Clean all/Flash all" mode at the bottom-right corner of the tool...This mode will totally wipe EVERYTHING...including the China recovery file...so, we will get 100% Global ROM in the end...the great news is the device remains Unlock Bootloader...
