Just wanna share with you my renovation experience. My renovation journey was upsetting. Actually I could have avoided many unnecessary troubles if I employ professional interior designer from reputable company. The ID I employed is my friend, he is young and provided me part time one stop service. I didnt compare other contractor's price as I believed he is my friend who would give me the good price and service. He made mistakes, always did not take note on my materials' requirements. He ordered wrong materials however he was willing to change for me and bore the costs. At the end, he told me that he failed to gain profit from the project. So that at the end of the project, which is the most important phase in which many outcomes that I saw was below my expectation. The painting service (I hv two colour paints in a room, the painter painted the colour exceeded other walls as he didn't use tape when painting. The painter also didn't paint the stains and he touched up the wall with darkers colours. I told my friend the problems but the answers I got was the price was cheap so asked me don't demand high. I was speechless. I have no money to pay him? He made mistakes n caused himself couldn't gain much profit then blamed me n asked me to not demand much although the painter failed to paint the wall n ceiling properly. This is just part of the story.

Honestly speaking, he really helped me a lot in renovating my house. But when mistakes happened and involved money issues, the behaviours before and after renovation are totally different. It hurts me as I thought too simple. For some plp, money and ego are more important than everything.

So my advice: try to avoid finding friends, young n less experienced ID. Renovation really needs good time, human, money and project management. The interior designs also must be practical. If I can choose again, I wont choose friend as my ID. You will be sad when the friendship is no longer same as before. Sorry for this long story.

Wish you have an enjoyable renovation journey.

i do agree with plesant gal, as i also experience almost the same.
Currently, engage a ID to do the whole project. Start of project 1~2 months everything goin very smooth untill then things start to go hair wire... here do wrong there do wrong, damage your door frame, windows frame etc. The worse case is yet to come which install the wrong tiling which cant even fit the cabinet. Trying to contact them to seattle but give lots of excuse, boss not around, supervisor not back yet, admitted to hospital etc. Headache all the way, now the whole project is already 2 months delay and lots of item yet to install in the house. The cabinet guys start making noise because the items already made but cant install.

This experience give me a lesson, it is true that do not ever give ID to do the construction work. They are good in ID but not in construction. Unless you dont mind the headache of the quality of work and pricing. You can consider using the ID with the whole.

Anyway, hope you have an enjoyable journey of renovation...

I think u already paid the courses fees to learn "how to start design your house and renovation"

At least you learn something, on next coming house . you wont repeat the same thing ya...

If can, do some survey in here . It will helps a bit. I cant said alot .

Thats why, interior design fees start from RM 3-18/sqft .

------------------------------------------------------------

some might need to see roughly what they get...

Meaning we may appoint ID to design the house. However, we appoint renovation company to renovate the house. Is it a better solution?

I plan to find ID as well and this is my first time appoint an ID. I am a bit worry after reading your experiences.

Erm, there is no definite answer .

any way have their own pros and cons...

it all depends on how much you plan to involve in this progress.....

Hi,

Design and consultation fees only..

some might provide u with the BQ . As I mentioned, its depends on how the progress required.

If u just need the normal 3D, without rendering..

it can be from RM 5-8/sqft

Inside will be inclusive of

3D drawing for you to visualize
Details drawing for you to let your contractor to quotes you accordingly
Minimal Site consultation . like Pre-reno,Mid of Reno, After Reno. 3 -5 times ...depends

Some ID which is generous, will share you the ULTIMATE GUIDE to obtain MAXIMUM returns with MINIMUM Spending...

Which you can look at my signature, I had a thread to share about carpentry.

It really depends on People you engaged.

If before, I'm rely on the renovation as main income, Then I wont tell you all these..

But Now, this is bonus income for me. Once I got my part as bonus income . Then is enough .

(Perhaps next time , I can open class teach people how to renovate FREE!!!!)Just joking .Dont take it so serious..

Also wanna share due to my bad experience with friend recommended ID. Make sure you do proper research and really see for yourself what a ID is or is not capable of. If you can, go look at a couple of project he has finished and talk to the customers and ask lots of questions. The one I had misfortune of dealing with was total waste of my time. I think he got bad work ethics, not reliable, and no integrity.
