Hi all,

Wonder if there are gamers here who go to arcades in shopping malls to race?

Races like:
initial D ver.2, ver.3
Wangan Midnite Max tune
Outrun coast to coast
Daytona
Battle Gear 3,4

I am a frequent Initial D ver.3 player. have several cards in my wallet always tongue.gif. Love the one on one challenges. Quite tense and chee kek. waiting for ver.4

Irritating stuff i face sometimes

steering wheel force feedback broken,
Accelerator pedal acting funky, sometimes on sometimes off
Steering wheel padding is torn partly revealing metal steering inside

So sad.. I accidentally damaged my ER34 card sad.gif. it was up to battle level 21. Now can't read it. I think i have bad relation to this car. my 1st card on this car also faced the same thing and i restart everything with a new card. now the 2nd card also habis ....

list of ver.3 cars in my wallet :
( this is battle level if i remember)
FT means full tuned. in this game 990000 points will have your car maxed out.

English:
rx-8
cn9a FT
sil180
bnr32
bnr34 FT
ae86 FT

Jap version
EK9 (5) new card.
rx-8 FT,
er34 FT (21 before died)
cn9a FT (20)
bnr32 FT (19)
altezza FT (19)
imprezza gdb FT
s2000 FT
cp9a tme FT
Rx-7 Spirit FT

Yesterday played at Sg wang. Decided to concentrate on my Civic EK 9. Ok night as i had more wins that losses. so level up to 8, tuning points up to 300,000k

win:
no card buntamobile -akina-dry-dh
no card buntamobile -akagi-dry-dh
Ae86 -akina-dry-dh (1st try)
Ae86 -akagi-dry-uh
FT BNR34 -akina-dry -uphill (as revenge brows.gif )
FT BNR34 -Tsuchizaka - dry -ib (as revenge brows.gif )
Rx-7 -Akagi-wet-dh
rx-7 -Akagi-dry-dh
LVL 22 EVO 4.. -Tsuchizaka-dry-ib ( So sweet as revenge. While choosing track i was deciding if can i beat him wif skill versus his more superior car)

lost:
Ae86 -akina-dry-dh (2nd try.. this Ae86 really has the advantage here, lost at right turn before long straight even though i did a 141 corner without whacking the side)
FT BNR34 -tsuchizaka-wet-outbound (civic like ice skating with running shoes, slip here and there)
FT BNR34 -shomaru-wet (I overtook him, but whack wall near the end)
LVL 22 EVO 4 WTF Akina-dry-dh (I am really disadvantaged here. Overtook him once, but boost on, so i got passed easily again)
LVL 22 EVO 4.. -tsuchizaka-dry-ib (he rechallenge me, i lost due to careless mistake at the right turn with the oil slick. Damn! could have easily avoided this)

Tsuchizaka inbound dry is my best track and often win more than lose here.

Ek9's ranking is around number 20 out of 35 cars. So it's kinda like a lower ranked cars and not easy to win battles since most people only use the top rank cars.

Rx-8 is the top number 1 car in this game and version
Evo 4(CN9A) I would consider this the 2nd top car

I never really liked the steering for Initial D arcades. Their force feedback is soft that I have to steer the wheel back into the middle. The force feedback also has a tendency to push your steering to the other direction if you tries to steer back to the middle.

I had 3 cars on my own. FC on V1, FD on V2 and V3(Japanese). Friends also gave me their collection of cars including AE86, EK9, WRX, Levin, S2k. Mostly V2.

V4 will be launched on Feb 2007 in Japan. Heard from some people who played it before that the cars are slower but easier to drift now. I might wait for the english version before investing in V4.

lol, you have kinda many 'dead' card on the pictures there.
i think you know already how to recover the 'dead' card(*seeing from the attachment* lol).

i mean 'dead' here is due to late taking the card from the slot till the warning beep can be heard.

anyway, nice going. i'm just casual player only for ID Arcade v3. Newbie XD

another racing game i do play is Daytona USA, favourite course is Advance, Transmission Manual XD

Thats only the racing game i 'usually' play so far at arcade.

OT: about emulator..i think from the list given, you can try out Sega Saturn Emu to play Daytona game.. maybe just go for Daytona PC game. for ID, i dont think have yet, though you can play at ps2 console like Gates's said.

ps: already beat ID game one for ps2. fighting Bunta is pain and hurt my fingers controlling the car using joypad sad.gif

Penang still 2 ringgit a pop?In KL, it's nearly RM1 everywhere now except 1 utama. 3 or unlimited battle continues varies from place to place.

You can select the steering feedback from feather light 1 to a tiring, arm wrestling 10. I have it to 2 or 3 most of the time. It heavily depends on the condition of the machine's wheel. Worst case is when the this is broken and it's totally weightless. So you have to depend on your experience (how much you need to turn in order to get this corner correctly) and Imagine the feel, in order to stay competitive.

The feeling of the steering wheel pushing in the other direction is partly real, to simulate the motion of weight transfer. The other reason is depending on car and track. Some cars will have 'wheel lock' where you're turning right, but the car still heads straight.

Yup. I do keep up wif the v4 news on other forums. Wonder will they really bring in that beautiful screen on it. So dissappointing to read that the v3 cards can't be transferred. I hope that they will find some way to do the transfer.

Hehe.. I didn't scan all the card's I have. Just only the one with distinct pictures.

'dead' as in invalid? Well, the cards can only be used up to 50 insertions. Once it reaches 50 times, the old card cannot be used anymore and you must buy a new physical card to continue with that car. The old card will have an invalid mark. Note that with each insertion, you can play unlimited races or time attacks, with the exception of a single race with bunta which will cause your card to be ejected, win or lose.

When your card countdown reaches 0, It will prompt you to renew, asks for coins (rm4 is the standard for 1 card), then you choose tune and the transmission again. It will eject and write a symbol on the top right of the old card. The new card will be printed with the same details as the previous card.

Yea.. it hurts your fingers playing ps2 initial d. I have my car collection there as well. But after i play the ps2 version, I will suck so bad when i go back to the arcades due to the different speeds and feel even with the same car.

Felt frustrated with the civic on last thursday. Lost more than i won. So far i have never met a lower ranking car in all my battles with this car.

Friday was better when i redeemed my winning percentage. But had to resort to my fav revenge track more than I had liked. Got the flame at lvl 11.

I really despise, hate, angry at some of those battle lvl 20+ fellers. They have one of the top 5 cars FT already with a ~ 70% winning percentage. Yet they chicken bring my EK to a track that handicaps my car + rain some more, over and over again. So Fed up to fight a losing battle. Mind you, I still give my good effort to battle, just in case the guy screws up and I get the tiny chance to win. To me, these players are just show off's without sportsmanship and don't have my respect.

Very strange car this EK. It excels greatly in close consecutive corners. Some, I could take it at the same speed as the rx-8. But it literallly dies on long sweeping corners where it will understeer and slide to the outside of the corner. I can solve this sometimes by a quick release of the accelerator but at the cost of acceleration that will give you a disadvantage. Lost on usui to an altezza, just because of this reason. But I revenged him by winning on Iroharaza uphill dry.

Yes, I partly agree here since I have seen stock cars beating the FT players. Player skill and experience is still more important and decides the battle most of the time.

Actually difference between full tune and stock car is around 5,6 seconds ( estimated guess based on my time attacks).

Times sq, .. maybe we seen each other b4.

Iro uphill is not available??. You have to turn the steering to the right and left in order to choose up or down, inbound or outbound. on iro uphill, Car's that startup faster and hugs corners well will have advantage. Can block from start to finish.

I have force feedback to 10. I don't really like the inertia carried through. Moreover the force feedback felt quite limp even at 10. Battle Gear 3's has a much harder steering.

Time Attack and Battle has different mechanics. In TA, better upgraded car means faster times.

Battle has a handicap system, whereby the car behind has speed(maybe accel) boost that allows the guy to catch up easily. Front runner one mistake and 2nd place will overtake easily. Explaining why sometimes stock car can beat the crap out of card setting cars.

Iro can't block at the hairpin turn with shortcut(MR2 jump). Car model can cross into each other there. Unless both guy take the shortcut together.

Each time i go, it's usually a min rm 10 before i get satisfied. Time attacks on various tracks can easily eat up tokens and time. A month probably be rm 70 - 90 moneyflies.gif My worst hit was when i used rm 50 in 1 day to play all out. (maybe triggered by life's frustrations and dissappointments)

Someone told me, each guy will be involved in some sort of vice, bad activitiy. There's no escape muahahahaha cheers.gif. Either smoking, drinking, womanizing, gambling, brawling and maybe other things. Since i have no interest in those, mine is racing initial d in arcades (Evil eyes grumble.gif).

I believe that they have made a killer combination that is hard to resist. Using the highly succesful initial-d as the theme and backstory, tense one on one battles and a high pressure time attack. Sometimes will feel high motivation to get as close to the world record times as you can.

In actual honesty, real road with real cars are more satisfying and exhilarating. There's more sense of fear and pressure and tension. Not to mention you feel the whole swaying of the car (ticklish ballz n a disco heartbeat when i corner 180+ in my real 1.6 car). Part of the fear it is not knowing what's ahead on the dark road. You also more cautious as any damage means..money flying. Not to mention how many of us can have real tuned evo, subaru or silvia's to simply race with.

But I would never get to battle in real life as much as I liked. On 1 card alone, I have more than 300 battles recorded lor. Definitely I average more than 130 battles per serious card. But i believe this is common for the usual id player.

I have seen other people have cards that have a recorded 400+ battles. Pretty sure these hardcore players have another top car card that records just as many battles.

So initial d has given me part of the thrill of mountain racing. It has also trained me well in dealing with emotions i will feel in one on one racing situations. Like when you're the underdog car, when you are the superior car and surely win, when it's a tight battle and a little bit of panic + 1 tiny mistake gives you 2nd place sad.gif , when you've got a broken accelerator or steering but still want to win or facing a real cocky, foul mouthed, cigarette smoking feller. So many situations that you will encounter when you challenge or get challenged by strangers.

Sometimes I get total beginners who challenge. So the focus has changed from just want to win, to a feeling to have funnie fun and liven it up. I handicap myself to only 4th gear even though the car has 5/6, I will take the lead and then turn the car around to go the opposite direction (so fun to try head to head collision which doesn't happen in this game sad.gif ), keep tapping the brakes when in the lead, to annoy the crap out of the following car. wahahaha..!!

ver. 4 , jus bring it!

It is pointless to battle in Initial D.
With the "Boost" on by default, all cars have 50/50 chance of winning.

I've already proven it with the underdog AE85 Levin SR, the weakest car in V2 and won a few DC2s in Irohazaka downhill battles.

Although Initial D do provide the thrill of high speed racing, I don't find it suitable for driving discipline because being good in Initial D is not very rewarding.

I have battled with Initial D drivers who think they are godly drivers and act like some big-shot, and I easily left them behind 1/2 lap to over 1 lap in Battle Gear 3 & 4.

I find it more rewarding and beneficial to concentrate on Battle Gear 3 & 4, since they are more to simulation racing and are applicable to improving the real-life driving skills.

I've already quit Initial D for over 2 years and I would indeed like to try out the V4 once it is release to see any difference or improvement that the game can offer.

Your theory regarding boost is right.

I do need to point out that the proof you presented isn't accurate.

The boost helps the chaser yes, but in your case, it will never be 50/50. In V2, DC2 is so godly on Irohazaka that the ONLY way you are going to win with any other car (yes, even RX-7s) against a DC2 in Iro is to have a WAY superior skill level over your opponent. Not even the boost will help you, as your turning speed with boost is what the DC2 can do without it. And trust me, I've been having a hell of a time blocking same skilled DC2s all the way downhill with the FD simply because they turn freakin fast to the point they sometimes do dart out of the turn before you can even block!

In V3 however, boost does help play a major role in battle because it is harder to pass without it. As a result, there are a lot more closer races with the V3 battle system (hence 50/50 chance). Of course, this only applies to some races. Because of V3's battle system where it's harder to pass, it also becomes easier to block, and if the driver know what he is doing, he can block the faster car ALL the way down/up hill if wanted to.

I have to say that battles in Initial D are actually getting pointless nowadays. I've been to the arcade nowadays only to see "fishing" matches. Fishing as in dragging the opposition to a map the opposition has a slim-to-none chance of winning. And when the opposition loses, he/she does the same. It does get boring, and it then turns into a battle of who has a fatter wallet. I used to battle alot but then turned to Time Attack if I ever wanted to play, but I eventually stopped because it was getting boring.

Now I turn to Battle Gear 4 for fun, though I really stink at it, but I find it interesting to play. If I ever play Initial D nowadays, it's for the single player modes. (Have yet to clear some of the higher level Bunta Challenges)

Wangan Midnight Max Tune? It's fun, yes, I've played it alot (have a 810HP Evo8). The lack of machines in KL just made me lose that interest. (Sogo now has only ONE machine instead of the four they had)

This might explain why suddenly 12 WMMT2 machine appear in Penang (4 in Carrefour, 8 in Pacific Megamall)

Possibly because the lack of interest of WMMT2 in KL caused the machine to move north.

Possibly because the lack of interest of WMMT2 in KL caused the machine to move north.

I have never seen WMMT machines at all in KL. =S

Boost is needed to make a tight, exciting race lor but doesn't guarantee win. Otherwise how could a normal levin beat an evo 4 lar if same player skill with boost off. If you drive a levin and face bnr32 on tsu, wet, hehe no hope at all even with boost.

Ya I agree wif Phoenix_Cypher_K1, Fakkin DC2 in ver.2 is just too unreal. I really hate the times when i had many losses wif my rx7 to dc2's on happo. Then when i take them to other tracks, I'm also not really having any advantages over the dc2 as well. Ver.3 at least we have the concept of course cars. evo on iro, sil80 on usui, evo3 on akagi up, ae86 on akina dh.

wmmt, you can find at times square arcade 6th floor. I tried this game a few times but mostly straight road highway racing doesn't appeal to me. The 1 single winding track seems to be more off reality than iniD.
Have a sleeping GDB card.

Hehe.. if you are initial D player, you're gonna have a tough time with bg4. I tried it and had to adjust, adapt several things. But the BG series is also fun in a different way. I like the rollcage design on the cabinet and the 2 speakers at the side of your head. I just miss the upgrading, tuning of the cars and reliving initial d anime.

Who here actually bought the BG NESYS key lar? How much and can you keep upgrading the 1 single car you luv on it?

Oo.. i didn't know there was also english and jap version of wmmt.

Y they Japs want to make it so susah. Should be so straightforward programatically to include a "choose language" option when choosing a card. Then display the subtitles, card markings based on that. Must be some political, management reason.

Yesterday winning % drop again for the civic. sad.gif arse. Now at 56.xx%. Met a few above average players.Got beat by a 700,000+ rx-7 for 3 consecutive races. Then kena Evo4 taking me snow + iro dh which i lost. Revenge the evo on akina dry and akagi uh dry.

I missed the skyline, so I started a brand new Er34, white, tune A! Didn't care and straight open to challenge. Sure enough i got challenged by a 400,00K evo VII to happo. it's my pantang that I shall never ever lose the 1st race of my card. So full concentration and no messing around.

Aa...at the first few corners, i was reminded of the understeer of the skylines. It takes some adjustment from a nimble but low grip civic to a skyline. I won but with the evo stuck to my rear bumper. Sigh of relief for the 1st race of the card. Total I had 5 wins and 2 losses for this new card. It's up to 30,000 points.

So the NLIK9 ER skyline is back again for the 3rd time.

Added on February 16, 2007, 11:59 amFull tuned the Skyline Er34 yesterday at mines. Had 10 easy consec wins that got me to 990000 points.

Immediately I did a time attack with this pure tune A skyline, and disappointed that the highest speed on Myogi was 204km/h without touching walls and full throttle all the way.

Then i started to change the parts. Spoiler changed to nismo, rims to enkei (less understeer) , exhaust to nismo (notice improve acceleration).

So time attacks ytd:
akagi dh dry 2'25" (target "22), +5
akagi uh dry 2'32" (target "30), +6
tsuchi both ways 2'43" (target high .41), +5
akina dh dry 3'06", +6
akina uh dry 3'16" , + 7
happo dry 2'29" (one of my worst tracks) , +9
usui dry both 2'50" (should be achievable 49") + 4
Iro uh dry 3'12" (target 3'10") + 5

2'= 2 minutes and 29"= 29 seconds lor...
+4 means 4 seconds behind the internet world record (official Net Ranking)

Hmm.. looks like I average around 5+ seconds per track behind the fastest in the world. Nothing great i guess, but I think it's realistically possible to get my target times!..

There's a group of 4 Japanese guys who frequent midvalley and they're really hardcore time attackers, really good and do amazing times.

Added on March 8, 2007, 11:31 amsien with the ER34. So I started a Rx-7 Spirit Tune A. Now up to 500,000k points. Satisfy my gian.. until ver.4 reaches our arcades. battle win % is now at 74%. Lost many on akina snow to evos and skylines.
to
woo hoo.. this rx-7 is amazing on akina dry /wet. I had my fastest time attack ever in ver.3 with car on akina. Tsuchizaka has potential to match the 3'42" time i have done before but it's tricky due to the wheel locking.
On dry, this car's so good, but have a hard time on wet, and even tougher in snow.

ver.4 is out in japan already!. But so many things have changed, it'll take time to relearn the things.

Hopefully they won't charge so expensive lor for the ver.4 game and card sad.gif

I've already quit Initial D for over 2 years and I would indeed like to try out the V4 once it is release to see any difference or improvement that the game can offer.

you're rite...

i always battle @ mid valley..lots of expert there thumbup.gif
but i prefer bg3 than 4...
bg4 got no feeling on the gas pedal..besides with the nos..
what its supposed to do on the touge?! shocking.gif

well.. cause i frequent IOI,timesSQ or Sg Wang. So I won't really know about the new machines until it arrives at those places or i read it in the forums.

Yeah.. planned FD for my 1st virgin Ver.4 car . ahah.. like the previous versions, the rx-7 should be able to last long and remain in the top 5 car rankings.

2 in gurney, 2 in queensbay, 2 in butterworth.. If the other forum is correct.

Got news that Times Square has the machines already and it's newer version that Sunway or Cheras leisure mall. So your time attack will be erased and dunno what other stuff will change. Some ver 1.1 upgrade it seems.

------------------
Hoho.. ytd nite 1st time on the IDAS ver.4 game. Spent Rm 78 sweat.gif in total to play and get a card. man.. this is expensive. cry.gif Did a few in store battles as well but too bad, if you win you won't get a free continue. completed LOTS myogi cause its a peculiar track.

Too busy looking at the new screens that I forgot the timer to select car doh.gif . So end up buying the new Subaru GDBF! haha. Later in the game.. timer 30 seconds to pick and choose which rims you want to change. Really pressure to select 1 out of the 14 choices there, see the timer counting down. haih..

The machine overall is nice.Love the widescreen! 2 coin slots top and side, more cushion on the seats and hopefully no more lower back bruises I got from ver.3 machine. Like your portrait on the card (miss the nice pictures of the old though). Tuning is so much better that the old, with so many options to choose even if you just played a few rounds. Like the new details on the track. Akina lake looks nice, haha.. feel bad speeding in town as you pass shops and buildings on the side. I noticed a small red shrine on iro, so you might want to stop at the side and pray for good luck wink.gif

The speed of the game is more like ver.2, faster and abit more insane than ver.3.

huh?? rclxub.gif
Blur doing 1st few run. Really confused trying to take corners and preoccupied trying to soak in the new graphics, new gear lever position. I'd swear i tried to change gears but grabbed only air a few times only to realize the shifter is placed lower, more like a real car.

Worst thing is the random loss of grip particularly on Myogi with those long sweeping corners. Suddenly while taking a corner, your car feels like it hit something on the road and you understeer and slide out. I thought i hit the sides initially, but then the same thing happened while I am clearly on the center of the road. I asked a few other ppl there, Evo IX, DC2 all faced this same thing. I tried to lift off accel when it happens, helps abit as the car regains grip faster. Tried braking and the car abruptly oversteers or suddenly twitches into a different direction. Hmm.. Subaru would be sued if their real cars had this problem. hmm.gif have to find out a solution, otherwise this is bad for battles.

I can understand abit about the car losing speed going up hill, but it feels the same going down hill and the car can also lose speed in the flat straights. New car, so i do wonder if Sega purposely cacat the stock cars so that there is a clear different between a full tune and stock.

It's now easier to overtake compared to v3. The following car seems to built huge boost. I won a few battles by giving the lead to the other car in the 3rd checkpoint to built up boost and then overpower them by a big distance in the last cp. I also lost a few cause as I was leading from the 3rd cp and on the final straights, the back car just whizzed past me like I was standing still, even if i tried hard to block.

Irohazara, I dunno whether to call it a joke or finesse..mindless roller coaster ride . Me and others watching laughed when kai's mr2 crashed with a players's evo in mid air! hahaa. Sparks flying around. tongue.gif

Overall fun game. Relearn many things and can throw away some you learnt from v3.

That is Initial D Arcade Version/Stage 4 Limited

Sega took the chassis of a real GT-APEX AE86, RX-7 (FD3S) Type R and WRX (GC8/22B) Type R STi Version V, removed their engines and setup a 90" display complete with tilt just for flagship arcade, Joypolis, Tokyo.

Thats pretty awesome, but I'm pretty peeved that they had to gut a 22B just for it. There's only less than 425 of those cars ever made = \

About the oversteer thing, gas off before it happen. Also when you oversteer/hit wall you lose speed/acceleration. When that happen you do "Penalty Cancel", Gas off -> Brake -> Gas again. This will reset the acceleration.

You cannot continue after won a battle because it was set by the arcade owner (machine still new, more profit needed).

As for car ranking, http://initial-d.info/perf/v4/

When WMMT3 gonna be here ?

yea. Since ver.3, I check up pretty often on
http://www.initial-d.com/forums/

and

http://www.idforums.net/

Now with the Skyline BNR32 [3-2-2-1-1]

Penalty cancel is ok for me actually. Cause I drive a manual car in real life, so it's like a faster release of the clutch pedal. Due to this, I', now starting to use left foot braking in this game.

But can't play so often. still expensive.

Added on September 12, 2007, 12:31 pmFT skyline at 7-7-7-7-7. Now tuning the FD3S at 4-4-3-1-4

Pic of my ver.4 card. the face portrait on the card reflects the changes you do to the one on the screen. Haha.. just noticed the change of the avatar pic.
