Xbox 360 title Gears of War has passed the three million sales mark worldwide, Microsoft has announced.

The action game was released 10 weeks ago and received widespread acclaim for its graphics, online multiplayer modes and gameplay.

It was the fastest selling game on any platform of 2006 and the fastest selling Xbox title of all time.

Recently released multiplayer maps for the game have been downloaded 750,000 times through the Xbox Live service.
