Avoid the new firmware,R1GB001 at any cost.

Not worth the update. The new video preview feature is not worth upgrading.

my firmware version is R1ED001, ady flash my phone thru SEUS..but still can't support chinese wor..
*
Check your region. To do so, > * < < * <, service info -> software info

You will see your firmware followed by a string of characters. prgCX1250214_<Something> that something should show taiwan or china which supports chinese. Other regions does not support chinese.

Midland sets are shown as China, while AP sets varies depending on its origin

how to change it to .ogg? 50% less size, how it affects the song quality?
*
K800i does NOT support .ogg. You will be better off encoding it to HE-AAC. M3 software posted earlier does the job well.

don't have anything that can change the xenon into flash light? that would be much cooler
*
xenon is not suited for torchlight, meaning prolong usage at a go. It's meant for short burst of flash, just like a camera flash would.

Here's a tip for everyone who has problem with the focusing. Press once and it focuses very nicely, press again, it goes blur.

The trick is, well let the phone does the focusing and shooting. How?

press on the joystick (push down as to select something). it will auto-focus and immediately snaps the photo.

It works great, undocumented item but accidentally press on it once and i have been using it ever since.

Hi guys!!

Been away for outstation work.

Use joystick to let the phone autofocus and take picture tips
Glad that my tips to use the joystick instead of the camera button works and useful to everyone. Basically you just press the joystick centre button (not up, left, right, or down). For all occasion, I find it better. Using the camera button usually very troublesome to me. But it's your choice.

Happy to see good responses from everyone!! thumbup.gif

Latest R1GB001 firmware
As I posted a few pages back. DO NOT UPGRADE TO THE LATEST FIRMWARE (for no reason whatsoever).

Please hold back your upgrade until the next good firmware comes out. There's no significant improvements cosmetically or functionality. (the video preview is utter CRAP, it makes me feel like the K800i was a Nokia Symbian phone).

Best firmware till date (comparing overall) is R1ED001. Using SEUS will update to the latest R1GB001. So only alternative is to engage people doing phone flashing or to SE service centre that has R1ED001.

Cheers!

I did mention. I was one of the first to update. I guess my post earlier was overshadowed by some other topic. Anyway, next time I would post more "attractive" banners, heading so that everyone sees it.

Just a general question for K800i users, is there any dislikes so far in using this phone? as in it's size, buttons, functions and all.

Planning on getting one and hope i won't regret..
*
Hmm, honestly, the joystick could still improve but so far so good, depends on how you use it.

The size is ok, N73 is about the same size for similar features phone. functions, sufficient, what you want to use it as? The outlook, well it's subjective.

It's a good buy since the price now is around 1.5k summore. Strongest points are 3G and camera.

QUOTE(mk23 @ Jan 10 2007, 11:25 AM)
I have a problem with my joystick shortcut. I make changes to the shortcut but it will set back to the default setting when I restart my handphone, EVERYTIME i restart my handphone. Is there anyone having the same problem with me. Is this a software problem?? Just bought it last month
*
Earlier firmware has that bug. What's your firmware? Here's something you could try out.

Set the shortcuts through the settings menu. Off your phone, press the power button once (don't hold it, it will turn off the phone). A menu will appear, shut down, turn on silent, keylock etc will appear.

choose shut down. Once off. Wait awhile and turn it back on. Check whether the shortcut disappears or not. Hope it works for you.

From what I noticed, a shut down and hold power button to turn off phone has different effect. Let's try this and let me know to confirm my theory.

may i know how to set image stabliser on photo taking.

I only see the icon during video....Guys any help?

It only works in certain mode.

i) twilight landscape
ii) landscape
iii) beach/snow

Press key 7, it's a shortcut to activate image stabilizer. An icon, like a tripod will appear.

Could someone compile a FAQ and add it to the first page!?

err . nvm .
just now read the midland/a.p/underwater.

now understand edi.
btw, its not a fake .  a.p (approved product) . hehe just noww checked at back (battery area, my IME number @ the sticker is same as on my screen, plus a sirim sticker too)

hehhehhehhehe biggrin.gif
yeah its just the mistake on the box.
YAY!
*
Uhm, the sirim sticker doesn't mean anything. IMEI number behind the phone matches with the phone information. That's a given.

To determine it is an original distributor set, which is Midland. You will need a Midland sticker and the IMEI number that matches with the sticker at the box. If you dont have these, it's an AP set.

Wow, looks like the battery issue has heated up.

Here's what I gather from SE service centre nearby Leisure mall. The one everdying's picture of the battery is an original Midland battery. Their whole shop doesn't have anything like other battery with Midland sticker.

However they did mention, those "still" could be original Midland batteries, those that were refurbished. That's why you see the wrapping and slight differences.

It does explain the cheaper price some sellers can give you.

Anyway, while all this is to make others aware, if you intend to pursue this battery issue, please open up another thread like what calvin_gsc did the last time for K750i battery.

K800i thread should only be about K800i in general IMHO.

There's a contact list backup to memory card, should do it more often to avoid losing any contacts.

How to access it
===========
Contacts -> Options (while highlighting New Contact) -> Advanced -> Back up to M.S

You can do a backup to your computer also. It's on the memory stick.
(Use folder options to show hidden files and folders)

<drive letter>:\System\PIM\PB_Backup.vcf - that's the file

Previously I stated in one of my previous posts that I've never seen anyone else using the K800i before and that there were at least 3 people using the N73 at my workplace.

Today, while waiting to get a seat at Chilli's at 1U, I saw 2 other people with the phone. Not such a rare sight as I previously thought!

sunauto - back to your question about why the serial number was coming off. I have no idea, I just noticed it while looking at the battery earlier, that some of it had come off/faded. I tried scraping it off with my finger nail and it came off easily!

Actually i seen more people using K800i than N73.

QUOTE(killerfly @ Jan 21 2007, 02:21 AM)
could it caused by the frequent opening n shutting of the back cover.. scratches off the printing slowly everytime ?? hmm.gif
*
Yes. My midland battery serial number and the wordings are coming off also. I frequently swap my sim card out. Nothing to worry about.

K800i casing design is tight, there's why no squeaky sound, but downside is it scratches off stuff.

QUOTE(braindead_fr3ak @ Jan 21 2007, 02:40 AM)
but isnt the serial number supposed to be like quite tough right..how can scratch like that can come out?@!?!?!
*
Not really, if you notice, the material used to print those wordings are different between the serial numbers and etc words.

correct me if im wrong.. do i only need to do that once on the 'new contact' to save all my contacts or do i need to do it for each n every contact??
coz when i opened the file from my comp.. it only shows my first contact's details..
thxs for the tip  thumbup.gif
*
It contains the whole phonebook list. When you view it, it's only the first contact. So far no program can read it correctly.

*
Multiple contacts? It backs up everything. Do a quick test, backup your contact list to M.S. Then select one or two contacts, delete it. Use the Restore from M.S. Your deleted contacts will be restored. smile.gif

i'm still wondering ,
some features i still cant use ,

on menu screen, first icon : playnow 'tm'

email : ?
my friends : ?

need to go se / support site,
been there, i got nothing sad.gif
*
Playnow tm - requires working GPRS or 3G. If you can use the browser to launch and access sites. You should be able to use this. this is just a SE platform to sell more music. Useless feature. It lets you preview the songs and the buy the song option.

email - requires working GPRS or 3G. You will need to find out the settings for the email. For Maxis/Hotlink, they do have a website to send the email settings for quite a number of sites (mainly local)

Here's an example for getting gmail to work: http://www.esato.com/archive/t.php/t-127013

my friends - same story as above. Here's a guide to set this up. http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=119543

no 1 encountered this ? i put my digi sim card in K800 and it can read the sim contact..... hmm.gif  so is the celcom sim card problem or phone problem ?  blink.gif
*
best way to find out. Go to Celcom centre, inform them of this problem. Surely they can provide other sim cards for you to test.

If put in another celcom sim, it is still that way, probably K800i doesn't support 128 type card. can later double confirm with any SE centres.

If it works, you will know is the celcom sim having problem.

I can't think of any other way.

*
SMS report is not like Nokia. If you missed the sms report delivery message somehow, go to sent messages, scroll to the message you want to check the status, more -> view status.

For me, SE method is more suitable IMHO, since I rarely do check the delivery status. For Nokia, you end up with a lot of delivery report sms which you need to erase later.

Only way is to flash it to Asia based firmware. You can engage ppl to do the flashing for you, shops or lowyat forumers here.

That's the only way.
