WB only need DEFENDING skills when playing defensive.

WB only need WINGER skills when playing offensive, DEFENDING skills will contribute little so it's basically pointless. PLAYMAKING skills will boost MIDFIELD a little, every bit helps on that though.

Not to say its useless, but many people make do without, ie by playing defensive, since many people want to focus on defence. Further its difficult to get wingback with good winger and expensive as well, so by looking at the resources available, many people just choose defender without winger. Should they want to improve side attack they just buy a better winger, which will normally be the cheaper and easier option.

owh ... so that's why i see people play 352 with only 1 central defender, all fullback and winger offensive ... i often kena tapau by them

Passing does not increase midfield rating, but IM with passing will increase the attack rating, as per table CA#PS (Central Attack # Passing) and SA#PS (Side Attack # Passing)

That's a normal misconception really. Hattrick start in Sweden so some translation issue. The actual word that they mean by passing is actually 'decisive passing', ie passing that lead to a goal chance, not the 'holding passing' ie passing to maintain possession.

Throw games during nice periods (so that it will not affect your gate receipts) to prevent yourself from promoting.
