oh holy ones, would like to get some advise for a pc build.

Would like to build a gaming rig (actually i dont really play that many/any games atm) to play games at medium settings or higher. My budget hovers at around 3k, can push it up slightly by a few hundred (keeping it under 3.5k would be great). Also budgeting about an additional 500 for the screen (if one can point me towards a good monitor for that price, that would be jolly nice).

So far, am thinking of a build with at least a i5 6500 but i notice that the 6600 can be had for slightly more. Would it be worth the money to go for the 6600?
Am also thinking that the gtx 1060 would be more than enough for me. Which model would be best bang for buck? (Or would the equivalent amd card be a better bet?)

Thankyou oh holy ones.

6600 would be an extra burden to your budget, 6500 is a better pick in overall.

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 908
Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4) - RM 379
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 229
Palit GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 Dual - RM 1219 <AMD equivalent would be RX480 8GB but slightly more expensive>
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD - RM 219
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
Tecware Alpha - RM 229

Total: RM 3371 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

SSD is not included as it is not a compulsory part to run a PC but it is recommended to get one to improve system responsiveness and reduce boot time of OS/app etc.

As for monitor, there are few choices, cheap TN, mid end VA or premium IPS (search online for the difference if you don't know how to differentiate them), personally I will go for IPS for better viewing angle and color reproduction like Acer R241Y/ViewSonic VX2363/Dell S2316H etc.

Thx sifu!! Just wondering....
Is the gigabyte gtx1060 windforce PC 6gb a better GPU? Cause it seems to be generally more exp. (Asking cause i was offered one for a little bit less.)

Also would like to ask about the va2419-sh cause I see it being recommended here and there.

alright, time to contribute to this thread since i recieved help here in the 1st place! rclxms.gif (thx again oh holy terence_nwb)

i'm also building something similar, similar budget, let me share my build with you.

bought a gpu via lazada
-gigabyte windforce oc 6gb
total after discounts around 1.1k (seems like a pretty good deal, hopefully?)
total spent: 1.1k
**am not sure iif you can find a unit for this price anymore but lets say you cannot find one (suspect you will have to get one for around 1.3k?), easy, just minus off the ssd at the end, still fits your budget

have not gotten these:
-i5 6500 (slightly better then what you have in mind)
-Asus b150m-a/m.2 (more features than the mobo you have in mind)
-G.SKILL aegis 8GB GDDR4
-FPS HEXA 550w (seemingly cheap & popular)
-techwave alpha (i have no idea, just going with what was recommended)
total around 2k+-
total spent: 3.1k

am also going to get a monitor online (they seem cheaper than buying in stores)
-va2419-sh (probably seems like an alright monitor, 24" IPS panel)
total around 500
total spent: 3.6k

so that just leaves the ssd/hdd and a somewhat healthy 400 budget
personally have a few hdd's ling around salvaged so i dont really need those
-apacer panther as330 240gb (rm 300+-)
OR (in ur case)
-1tb for 200+
total spent: 3.8k

you may or may not have extra for an ssd at this point (depending on the price of that gpu)
that leaves you with around 200 for an ssd if you want one (probably need to topup a few bucks?)
-120GB ssd, 200

**this is my 4 days worth of hunting~ sweat.gif
all the best!! whistling.gif

Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD - RM 219

Hi Terence, thanks for your quick response. The above budget is including the monitor. Let's say if i take GTX 1070 instead of i7, what is the best build?
*
wait wut.... i think you can get about an i5+gtx1060 combo for that money. easier to fit an i7 compared to a gtx1070......

sad.gif That's sad. I am from Labuan island, I do not think any place nearby me has people who build gaming desktop. Appreciate if you could share any website or people who build and able to ship upon completion.
Yea, will upgrade again in due course.
*
you know.....they can ship it to you right?

Intel i5-7600K
GTX 1060 6GB RAM
16GB RAM (Corsair or G.Skill)
2x 240GB SSD
1x 1TB HDD (if necessary but preferably SSD)
*
3.5k is nowhere near enough to build anything of this sort..... its that far off.....

Drop the GPU into 1060 3GB Version
Get a 500W PSU (Power Supply)
8GB RAM

Should be enough.
*
-Intel i5-7600K
-GTX 1060 6GB RAM
-16GB RAM (Corsair or G.Skill)
-2x 240GB SSD

3.5 isnt enough to build a k series build PLUS the 2 ssd's and 16gb ram....
only net you one of the 3.... thats how poor the rm is now.

MOBO + Casing (RM400) with the above downgrade enough I think.
*
400 is barely enough for the mobo... do you know how much those bits cost?? hmm.gif

approximate breakdown; (cheapest bits you can find + figs rounded down)

1)i5 7600k alone already hits rm1k+

2)z170 > rm400, z270 >rm600 (afaik thats the pricing for these overclock-able boards currently)
=so far mobo + proc already makan 1.4k++ (minimum)

3)240gb ssd is around rm300+ a piece.....
=1.4+300+300 = 2000

4)1050ti 700++
=2000+700 = 2700

5)8gb ram is more than rm240
=2940

6)psu 500w (lets just taker the cheapo hexa) = 200
=3140

Figure at this point isnt even a correct figure, actual prices for the parts above are slightly higher and we would still need a few bits
7)case
8)cooler

just trying to point out that the initial AND second build you suggested were impossible to say the least.... the third build is way cut down compared to the other 2.... ofc its possible BUT for tripple-A titles.... imo a 1050ti isnt really cutting it. since the request was for a gaming pc..... dumping money into the proc isnt a good idea, might as well drop the k-series processor and get a good 1060 (6gb if possible)
thats my 2 cents... icon_rolleyes.gif

edit:
basically trying to say, you cannot get the k series with a 1060 or that amount of memory, you can only pick one of the three.....

Hi, I'm going to build a desktop requirement as below:

Budget: 3k above

Gaming purpose

Hardware reused: Headset, Keyboard and mouse

Monitor Resolution 1920 or above

Games & softwares: Dota2, Witcher3, DarkSoul3, Dishonored2, Skyrim

Desktop only.. With beautiful LED light and casing if possible.. Or any advice if using liquid cooler? Just tell me the price and difference

u might wana bump your budget up abit given your requirements (am also assuming no monitor is needed otherwise its really really tight)
3k budget, you will probably not want a overcloack-able processor... no point you get water cooling....

you can just ngam ngam afford a basic i5+1060 build.... scroll back and look at some of terence_nwb's builds.... he has recently posted a few that meet your demands.... (except the led's and water cooling which isnt required or even nessasary given your budget)
