Hi all, i am a beginner runner 5k 2-3/weekdays and 10k/long run weekend. Training for HM next year. I cycle 20k for 2/week. Taking full rest days Mon and Thursdays (fasting).

Currently using a xiaomi sports bt headphones with a nokia 3310 for music and emergency purposes. I use a feature phone for outdoors activity since a previous smart phone fell in river (with its master) during jungle trekking.

I am bored with the nokia 3310 and looking to upgrade to possibly a lighter feature phone with mp3, bt, and microsd. I need it to be small, light, able to withstand sweat (sweaty tight pockets) and some splashes due to rain. My smart phone is an LG G6, which I seldom bring out for sports.

Any recommended feature phones? Thanks in advance.

Guys, I have flat feet but my current shoes show wear on the outsides.

Also, I tend to push off with my middle-smaller toes (outside) instead of big toes.

Do I need running shoes with arch support for my flat foot (treat overpronation as what my arch and footprints looks like) or should i buy neutral/cushioning ones (treat underpronation as what it shows on the sole and movement pattern)?

Good luck in finding your new running shoes. thumbup.gif

Are you from Putrajaya/Cyberjaya/Bangi area ?

If so, where do you normally go out for a morning run ?

Are you looking for a track in Putrajaya?

I recommend the 10.5km main island loop....clockwise or counterclockwise from mcd/millenium monument

I see. That's something new. Very interesting. Many thanks for sharing bro. I will definitely try it out tomorrow morning.

I always start running from the Putrajaya mosque (near PM's office) all the way down to Taman Wawasan and make it way back to the mosque. You can get 13.5 km on that track.

This is the 10.5k track that I mentioned earlier : https://www.malaysia-traveller.com/cycling-in-putrajaya.html

Usually I do 2 loops on my MTB, 1 loop for runs.

There is a 6.5k track (3.25k one way) at Putrajaya Lake Club northwards passing through Ayer 8 waterfront, which I think can stretch further northwards after the terminus signboard and further southwards of the lake club police station. Its not a loop so you will double back same way. This one is less congested and serene, but lack of tree covers at the upper half for hot afternoon runs.

Do you have a map of the 13.5k? For 13.5k I am guessing you go inside Taman Wawasan itself?

I bought the Karrimor single bottle version from a sportsdirect store. The bottle shifts around to the right even with straps tightened.

My training method for Cultra

1. Weekdays . Mon Wed Fri will train for 10~15km, Weekends Saturday or Sunday will have a 20~30km LSD or hiking for atleast 4~5hours
Basically per month mileage you must have atleast 180km above
2. Train on weekends will always testing on the new fueling like different energy gel/ energy bar or energy drinks to see which method is the best to survive in tough courses.
3. Train on weekends with the ideal equipment to ensure you have some idea which equipment work best in the race (etc: bladder vs softflask, rain proof jacket vs poncho, headlights fitting)
*
Thanks brother, for your advice

I am training for a road HM but what I would really like to do is an Ultra/Trail event. Running on built environment during daytime does not bring me the 'peace' that nature can.

Currently doing 40km/week mileage.

Mon - Rest
Tue - 10k run
Wed - 20k bike/1H jump rope+calisthenics
Thu - 10k run
Fri - Rest
Sat - LSD minimum 15k up to 22k
Sun - Easy 5k/swim lessons (beginner)

Daily
Dumb bell for biceps, triceps, deltoid
5 minute combo planks daily, now starting to alternate with squatz

I plan to do 3 HMs this year, my 1st would be PDRM HM this saturday night, next is SCKLM HM.

After completing 3 HMs + able to swim I would reassess my fitness for a road FM onwards.

Would really love to try trail events next.

Finished my 1st HM 2 weeks ago (PDRM Night Run). Finished it in 2:14.

I registered a month before, my 1st HM is supposed to be SCKLM HM. All my training was done for a targeted HM in April.

Then my running partner asked me to join so I just said why not. I will just take it slow and walk at the stations, sort of like a no-expectation thing. Besides, I had ran KL World Urban Run 15k a month before that and the course is basically the same + 6kms. I already know Lake Gardens and Bukit Tunku.

Pre-race, nervous also. Thank God for all those uphill LSDs at Genting Peras and Setia Alam Dragonback. Thank God for all those experiences of joining shorter distance events. The HM was on Saturday night, so my last run was Thursday afternoon. It was a flat 10km at my usual place. My base runs is 10k, I think I would be better next time if it is reduced to 8km for race weeks. I ate more than usual for friday and saturday. Energy levels increased when this happens. In the starting pen i had one last banana and water.

The run turned out quite well. Kept my cadence near 180, small quick shorts strides uphill and cadence reaching 240 downhill (jump rope training helped tremendously) was able to conserve energy. Walked at every water station, one cup of 100 plus, one cup of water (half to my head) each. I remembered perceived effort increased at the last 2km - i think it is because i tailed a fast runner. Most of the rest of the HM, I was consistently passing people. And my fully charged BT headset died a little before 2 hours (i sent it to warranty).

I am no way a fast runner, my best 5k is 27:16 and 10k is 57:49.

I am not competitive, I dont have a time expectation or pace expectation. I am wearing my Garmin Vivoactive HR. During runs it is set to a screen with only these 3 info - Distance Done, Duration, Time of Day. I am thinking of removing the Duration as I still find myself calculating the pace at the back of my head. I dont want to know my HR or pace. Easy or hard, I am training myself to read the 'perceived effort' by feel alone. I am conditioned, so running in the red HR zone is not a danger for me.

It is not the numbers that motivate me. I run because running makes me more disciplined and fitter. I like the experience - meeting new friends, running at some new unique place, the challenges involved, facing fears etc.

What running teaches me, I will apply in life. I believe life is short, and there will come a day when we are old, our bodies sick and weak and we can no longer run. So lets do it to the fullest NOW, lets bank those memories for later days. When the cane, wheelchair, and coffin comes, we will savor and remember this life we had before.

My best experience was going up for a 22k LSD at Genting Peras at 4am in the morning. Something about running in the cool night, with rustling trees beside you, focusing on your headlamp beam just makes me.....happy. I knew then what I actually want from all of these running.

I like nature and aiming for one of those trail races/ultras in the future. Feels road races are something like I have to do go to that.

Cheers, everyone! Enjoy your runs!

Anyone here plan to take the kinrara lrt station to the starting point of scklm ?

I saw a runner commented on one of the scklm's posts regarding the lrt station opening at 2am issue, he said that not all lrt (those lrt stations stated by scklm in fb ) actually opens on time at 2am and turns out he had to rushed to bandar tasik selatan and almost missed the flag off time to fm

Is this true ? Because i stay in bandar kinrara and i actually plan to go from kinrara lrt station but if it didn't operate on time then i guess im screwed  doh.gif

(btw its my first time joining scklm, so i really hope past scklm fm runners can guide me on the transportation to the starting line)

Sounds like LRT also will not be dependable

Car is foolproof, and we can pack the bags in the boot if the baggage drop lines are too long pre-race.

Only headache is parking....
