Anyone do trail running here? Just had a taste last Monday at Bukit Kiara and I'm really hooked. Way more fun than road running, but of course you can't really go the distance with it. But my hammies, glutes, lower back and hips were totally shot yesterday.

right? biggrin.gif different playing field altogether... my best buds salomon speed cross vario (done trail, hike, obstacle course in it)

Yeah but obstacle races are not as stressful as time is less of an issue. A lot of waiting and resting while queuing for obstacles.

A friend of mine who join together in obstacle races tried his 1st FM and he finished in 8 hours plus.

He seems shaken and said he prolly wont do FM again anytime soon. That scared me a little lol.

I dont drink/smoke but when it comes to eating i barely held myself lol. loads of fast food too lol sweat.gif

Twincity the cut off time is 8 hours im sked i wont make it. Thats why i googled a bit and saw ppl say the best bet to survive is follow galloway walk/run method so i guess it's worth a try.

How many HM u joined ady? Stanchart the cut off time is even shorter just 7 hours. I didnt manage to register that one sold out dy  cry.gif

dude, same. but spartan is super expensive wei. 1 spartan can almost join 2 vipers. i only register 1 to try see 1st. i think this year imma mix and match a bit. viper tunnel challenge seems quite interesting. also they started giving out under armour shirts which will hopefully improve the quality of their shirts.
*
cost is one factor, what i like about spartan = no waiting time or not as long as viper or any other obstacle courses / quite taxing for beast tho

oh have you been through one already? but quite strict right? one failed attempt and straight away have to do 30 burpees
*
yeah mostly for elite runners with red headband, towards the afternoon/evening session they just let it go and not that strict anymore but have to combat with hot sun and dehydration.

see you at the viper tunnel biggrin.gif

i see. they don't have lots of water station? haizz i wish they at least give u try until u give up then can do burpees.
*
no set rules that you can do only once, its a matter of whether you can do more than once biggrin.gif

fair share of water stations but its a matter of getting to the next one biggrin.gif recent ones in Johor the weather was nice, it was a gloomy day

just wanna ask you guys about trail events, planning to join bbr 0.2 in march. I saw their earlier 0.1 videos and it seems there is a combination of road and trail routes. Does this mean i have to use two different shoes for the race? I don't want to use trail shoes on road otherwise it will damage the studs, also not road shoes because i don't want to slip and slide.
*
registered BBR and Petlz

hybrid shoes are the best but Ive been running with trail shoes on both tarmac & off road.

lol true. i thought of using paintball elbow/knee guard at one time as they're quite rugged.

Tesla got compression oso aa i tot electric car only lol.

I guess i know ady what to expect performance-wise from chapalang brand compression which is not much lol.

Was a little bit worried if badly done compression can actually hinder performance as they deal with blood flow and stuff. If this is not the case then shud be okay la.
*
i was surprised too, but after looking at their site then i know theres no correlation between the 2 biggrin.gif
koyak la comp pants for obstacle race as you have to crawl, roll, drag, run, walk, thread water/mud using the pants (destroyed my UA already)

never underestimate the distance and the COT

for example 10km road is never the same as 10km trail or 10km obstacle race

trust me ive learned it the hard way

Ah it's to be expected lol. To be honest i don't think im really prepared before joining FM. Just testing the waters. That's why i pick FM with 8 hours of cut off time instead of the usual 7.

And i read it somewhere that for a newbie you can increase your chance of finishing an FM by doing the walk run method which i tried and was quite helpful. Finished the run a bit over 7 hours which is considered quite slow. Wouldn't make it if it's a 7 hours race. Quite aching in the whole body afterwards and need to have breaks while walking to collect medal and back to car.

I only brought few snicker bars and the rest just rely on water stations. Haven't actually tried gel yet in my runs.

I think a bottle is good to have if you're competitive and couldn't afford to waste seconds on crowded water stations or if you need to have a certain type of drink might not be available at water stations. For me i took water stations as a motivation to keep going and a place to slow down for a bit.
*
i myself carry 500ml bottle, dont like the crowd during first 10kms (if its 5km gap between water stations)

Skipping water stations won't save you much time unless you are one of those world class elite runners. Every seconds counts.

its not about time, its about the crowd

Of course it's about the time because you feel ganjeong or time wasting to squeeze in between crowd to get a cup of water tongue.gif
*
hahahaha nice try bro

no la, in any event personally if you have grabbed yourself a cup or 2, then move away dont la drink then and there. there are other people want to drink as well. thats why i prefer to bring my own bottle, rather than hati sakit and ruin the mood might as well avoid it altogether. biggrin.gif

So in order to do 70km trail need to do 150km road first DX

I really wish we have more road ultra races but i think it wouldn't be good for the knees
*
no la, more or less on endurance, which basically if youre talking about 10km distance, trail might take twice the time as compared to normal road race depending on elevation/weather/trail condition.

kudos to you my fren for doing ultra trail.

i dont have the strength to do such feat.
