Why are you letting go MUTF over Spartan  sweat.gif  sweat.gif
*
I promised my friends this year wan to complete trifecta together. Manatau clash cry.gif

Also since i lost my main running shoes budget lari a bit and im still missing a lot of stuff for MUTF.

To much of a headache to cover all so i decided to focus on Spartan+Viper first this year with some running events in between.

Still 50-50 on joining Janda Baik Ultra and Hulu Langat Marathon. Not sure if i can complete those in my Kalenji shoes. Haven't got the time to really try it for long yet and I'm a bit discouraged by my first short run in it.

last time in /k/ ady got people showoff running app screenshot saying they consistently run at unholy speeds. we don't need that lol.

now is puasa month running activities slow down a bit. not many events are up so tered oso slow down a bit.

i just got my On Cloud shoes after testing few alternatives. it's still the best despite being a neutral shoe for my arched feet. all the support/stability shoes felt intrusive and stiff.

so sad minimalist shoes are so hard to find these days.

guys lately i start to feel minor pain in my right knees when running.

it's not too serious but i worry it might turn worse in the future. i noticed i have this when i start to increase my pace, from average of 8 min/km to gradually lower it down to 6 min/km.

more recently i tried landing more on my forefoot to minimize direct impact to the knees and it helped a little bit. but now i start to feel pain on my shins while the knee pain still come up every now and then.

just wondering you guys' experience with such injuries and how you deal with it. will it simply go away after a while? should i ease back on the pace or alternate between intense and relaxed session? eat more calcium?

usually i run twice a day on morning and evening for about 3km each session from monday to friday. i generally try to push for a better pace each session.

any tips will be appreciated!

pay attention to your form.

happened to me before, it will slowly go away after a while with easier pace.

dont do too much of intensive runs, just easy jog until your knee recovers.

usually people do twice a month for interval run, dont push too hard.
*
i see. that's reassuring. yeah i think my form is a bit out of whack lately.

one reason being my new shoes. if i use the usual mid-foot strike i'm comfortable with i'll ache in the mid-foot part. so i tried a more aggressive forefoot strike and that problem goes away. my pace improved and for a while i was happy until the knee thing crop up. this morning i slow down and return to my previous form. slower and less impact on the knees but the midfoot ache is also back. i guess i need a new pair of trainers. current shoes are great for speed but it kinda hurts for slower daily runs. money again cry.gif

yea i was in same situation with you.

front foot strike = faster pace, but my weak knees seem cant sync with my pace, hence injured.
mid foot strike = comfortable pace, knees seem not much pressured on it, can run longer, over 30km easy to get cramped.

my solution is altering my strike pattern when running in race.

slowly adjust form and sync your body, pay more attention when running.

just sharing my experience, sifus dont shoot me. biggrin.gif
*
awesome! yea quite similar.

i guess i'll save the effort in event runs and just go easy on daily runs. i thought if you push it enough the body will adapt later lol.

you're a sifu to me ady notworthy.gif

Kebetulan I also start picking up my pace today. From my usual 8:30ish to 6:30ish.

Pain in the knee. Discomfort in a few other places too. Memang like that wan, I think the body will adapt. High intensity should be kept to a minimal, I ran again this evening just now at pace 8:45. Ok di...tak sakit sangat.

Regarding foot strikes, my experience is that we should just forget about it. Forcing things just complicate matters unnecessarily. Forget about running form too....I tried the pose method for a couple months and now my body is confused. Now I just screw it and enjoy the run in whichever form I feel comfortable in. Been reading online and the key to improving is just to run...run more....increase mileage. Forms correct itself.
*
hopefully will adapt. because i have a friend who ady retired because his doc said his knees are busted ady and need to stop. so im a bit scared i'll end up like him lol. also this knee thing has been going on for weeks ady and altho nothing severe i dunno if have long term effect.

for now i slow down a bit and do heel strikes and it does feel better. i try to improve the pace using that form and managed to maintain a 7-ish pace. paid a bit extra attention in "soft landings" on the heel and rolling it forward especially when going up and down curbs. for me the point is experimenting with different forms to find which feels right. when i go about not thinking of forms i ended up using the forefeet and that's when the problem starts. if i use back midfoot strike im comfy with when i was using my previous shoes i'll hurt my midfoot section. hence, going heel strike for now.

The type of shoes might help? In earlier days when it would hurt my knee going downhill, I changed my shoes to Skechers because of its max cushioning. It gives just the right bounce to avoid pressuring my knees too much. I'm still using Skechers for road, but I have since moved to inov8 for trail.
*
yeah but it's not easy changing shoes everytime lol. im thinking of getting a pair of trainers, prolly brooks ravenna for daily runs and save the current one for events. maybe next month. so sad my fav pureconnect is discontinued ady cry.gif
