I guess this thread might help people like me to get necessary resources to be better musicians.

In Malaysia, I guess there are 2 major issues on musical resources namely inavailibilty (limited) resources and the bottom line, price.

Nowadays (not like in the 90s where u have OLGA etc), it's hard to find good and accurate guitar tabs online. As an alternative to the free-user-submitted resources, most of us would still go to Bentley, Kinokuniya (which I think possess MORE tab books than others in our country) etc or buying online to get the tabs. I prefer books published by Hal Leonard.

Same goes with instructional and concert DVDs. You might be lucky to come across with pirated one, but where to find it? (Disclaimer: I don't really support piracy

To start the ball rolling, these are my current resources and wishlist:

TAB BOOKS:
During my uni time, I owned Pearl Jam (Ten album), Steve Vai's Passion & Warfare and Eric Johnson's Ah Via Musicom but I can't find it now!! I would definitely buy it again!! Maybe next month (now got no money la) thru amazon.com. Now, I only have Famous Classical Guitar tab book.

INSTRUCTIONAL DVDs / BOOKS
Again, I USED to have Stu Hamm & Paul Gilbert's instructional video. Thinking of buying Eric Johnson's Total Electric Guitar DVD.

Now, I only have Guitar for Dummies and few old Guitar World mags. So pathetic!!

CONCERT DVDs / VCDs
- G3 1996 (Satriani, Vai & Eric Johnson)
- G3 2003 Live in Denver (Satriani, Vai & Malmsteen)
- G3 2005 Live in Tokyo (Satriani, Vai & Petrucci) (original, RM100 Pertama)

- Mr Big Farewell Live in Tokyo (final line up with Richie Kotzen)
- Metallica S&M
- Alice In Chains Unplugged
- RHCP live concert (can't remember the venue)

I have that, hard as f***. He covers all his influence ranging from Hendrix to Jerry Reed and even Wes Montgomery. His explainations are understandable, tough/challenging lessons that requires quite a bit of musical knowledge & effort, and a tone to die for.

I have Ozzy live in Budokan and the BLS DVD...... hope to get my Doom Crew Troopin' Live in Europe DVD soon.....

U have it? Cool!!! Where did u get it? I read some reviews from the net. Some said a good gutarist does not make a good teacher. Isn't it so in his case? Maybe I won't end up being like him, but at least I can master 5% of his secrets. What else do u have?

May I know where did u buy the book? Online or a shop somewhere? If you bought it at a shop, may I know which one?

U can get it thru online @ www.halleonard.com or just google it & you'll find sites like amazon.com etc. I prefer amazon coz u can get used books at cheaper price tag.

If u're in M'sia, u can get it from Bentley, Kinokuniya. Check Hal Leonard's website for list of merchants in M'sia.

I got it at Amazon.com but Kinokuniya might have it.

That's probably the only instructional DVD I have. As for Concert DVDs, I have a about 20+, mostly originals collected over the years.

buying from Amazon.com is cheaper than buying from Kinokuniya?

I don't know if the case are the same for all books but I ordered J.S Back for Electric Bass at Kino and I only charged the price of the book. With Amazon, you need to pay some shipping.

Including shipping, it's only slightly cheaper gua, not sure. I looked for the EJ DVDs in Kinokuniya but can't find it.

Don't think so, nearest is probably Singapore? But the Kinokuniya in KLCC has loads of music-related books/DVDs and mangas.

that will be my top priority if i get to go there...

kinokuniya, since its near my place thats where i go to read music books and occasionaly mags(sad thing all the guitar mags are wrapped up!)

excuse me again.wanna share sumthing.lots of guitar, bass, and other instrument tablature can be downloaded from http://www.powertabs.net/. but firstly u need to download the power tab editor software.i've downloaded lots of tablature since 2004 n now i think i can play more better(a.k.a playing like hell) Dr Vai rulez!!

cool! i have yet to surf the site. how do u find the tabs there? i sumwhat sceptical bout these user-submitted tabs coz u can hardly get accurate one. i used to be like u, spending hours & hours searching for good tabs on the net (even until now to get some 'lead' on the song) but ended up frustrated coz u know they r wrongly transcribed plus u know u can transcribe better than that. Now, have to fork out some money to get reliable tab books but if powertabs is ok, maybe worth a try

Any idea where to get Pantera live in concert dvds.I am longing for it.
