Currently call won't be using 4G/VoLTE (Only 2/2.5G), but yes, call still can be used without any active internet subscription.

But I just wondering why I can never lock to 4G. If I forced LTE only, no signal. But I havent activating any data also. So is it that without data active, they don't let you connect on 4g at all?

We cannot lock to LTE "ONLY" as this will disable 2G connection and thus we cannot receive TAC/MSOS/Calls/SMS/etc. So, the system/network is now set to GSM/LTE Mode.

If we set the device to "LTE ONLY", the device is considered "Not in coverage" by the system/network. So, in conclusion, don't lock the device to LTE Only.

What phone? Any other phone can lock LTE only other than Samsung phone with Exynos SoC?

Sometimes I used this function when playing moba so that annoying calls wont interrupt my game when I was using S9+. Just that sometimes forgot to turn off after gaming and customers so mad at me....

Does Xox prevent you from using 4G if your data is not active? Ie. no Internet quota, but sim valid for calls.
*
Not really. I also use XoX as spare sim for calls only. Even no data subscription, it still connect to 4G by default if you dont specify to use 3G or 2G only.

China phone sometimes got different band disabled. My IQOO Neo 3 got band 7 disabled by default. Since it's Snapdragon 865, I can't find the service menu to enable the band like I did with Samsung with Exynos chipset.

Xiaomi global firmware, when on mode LTE/Cdma/UMTS/GSM, it will lock to UMTS only. Never to 4G. There's nothing like a SIM card that is hardware limited to 3G maximum right?

from my experience.

if never activate data plan, maximum only can connect to 3g.

just activate small data plan then dont renew it.

after that can connect to 4g, even no data plan.

Check the APN. Most probably the APN is not selected in the Android/iOS settings.

Just did a real world test with my Hotline sim for volte. Even though I said earlier it worked with my iqoo phone, but in reality it didn't. I was fooled into believing it works because I was shown the volte slider in network to turn on but when I tried calling, it goes to 2G. No such problem when using S9+ though and it works like charm.

When I tried *#*#4636#"#", it show xox already had volte but I could never get it to work with any of the devices that I had.

Only when the phone is set that XOX becomes the default Internet choice (dual sim phone), I was able to see the APN settings. They were "celcom3g" and some other things, deleted that and set new APN name and value to 'XOX'. Then I Force LTE only, LTE can connect. But when I brought XOX back to not the default Internet choice line, Force LTE will result in no line even though the other SIM card is put on UMTS as this phone only allows 1 simcard on 4g at one time (It only locks to GSM now because I presume Digi shut down their 3g).

Actually I'm not quite clear about the 4g and 2g being simultaneously needed for XOX. Andrea2k, do you mean that when you choose LTE/GSM mode, both these 4g and 2g will be ON just for that XOX line? One for internet and one for sms/calls? It seems a little strange for me as I always assume one SIM only locks to one band / G at one time.

LTE for data, GSM for call/SMS/TAC/MSOS/USSD/etc.

If we lock to LTE only, the network will "ban" ur access. So, don't lock to LTE starting 1st January 2022...

In this case, what happens is when a call or sms is coming in, let say you are using data browsing internet in 4g, the tower will automatically change you to 2g for the call/sms until they are completed then switched back to 4g again?

What phone were you using again? Like I said, some china phone has certain band disabled.

Whether or not you set to LTE only, it will still connect provided your phone support the band the telco is using. When you set your phone to LTE only, due to no volte, your phone would not ring since it cant switch to 2G to receive the call. It still ring like normal for the caller. This I already tested since customers called me via office number to screw me after I didnt pick up calls for 3days.

Just look at this screenshot. My yoodo is a spare number I bought because nice number. Never activated data, just call package every 60days grace. Right now already inactive but still connect to 4G. Cant show with my xox since I had activated data recently to game on my 2nd phone.

Update:

One of my xox used in tablet also connecting to 4G without subscribing to data currently. I only on data sometimes when needed.

Did something happen to XOX after the 3G shutdown? Nowadays, my Samsung Galaxy S7 Active show 'Emergency Call Only', and so is my Nokia 3310. The SIM works though in my Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 5G and Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro.

Search for "Reset Network Setting" to see any improvements...

Also, for "old" phones, ensure the XOX is slotted into SIM1 tray...

"Reset Network Setting" doesn't seem to work with the Samsung. Will try the SIM1 tip on the Nokia later tonight.
