hi sifus!'

A rather real and heartfelt question and pls honest answers only.

im still in the earlier stages of my career and I should finish my degree by sept 2022 (yesh im 27, late into degree due to a rather difficult family financial background). Working and studying part time at the moment.

So...I got my hamilton khaki field auto 38mm, about 8 months ago and i love that piece alot, but i kinda like the idea of running 1 watch for everything (or almost everything), and after quite sometime of looking around I got attracted to the Tudor bb36 in blue! (tried it in person, yep thats the one!)

Such a stunning minimalist piece, definitely something id wear and cherish..and probably sell off most if not all in my collection except the hamilton (mostly affordable seiko's).

Financially speaking, Im in no place to drop Rm9-10k anytime soon (yes saving on the side with the balance after deducting my usual monthly saving and expenses and etc).

Would it be worth it to save for a few years to buy the bb36? or go via installment? what would your take on this be?

i personally feel that i might quit the hobby entirely after the bb36 as nothing else within the watch hobby interest me as much as the hamilton kfa 38mm and the tudor bb36.

I know sounds abit childish as me a 27yr old thinking so hard over a watch, but Feel free to comment...be as honest as you need to be.
Thank you friends

Sincerely,
SV

K bois, gentleman, whamen and amois... I've finally made my decision, calculated my finances. I'm going to liquidate my collection of budget pieces and keep only the Hamilton. This Hamilton is the only piece i wear 95% of the time.

Checked my finances, tudor bb36 in September 2022 as a graduation and 28th birthday gift to myself. My ancestors gonna cringe when they see my spending money on a watch but it's okay, all good fam🤣👌
*Spend responsibiy la of cuz

*Flies away*

Hi guys, I need a watch recommendation as the watch my dad got me for Christmas few years back keeps getting its leather strap breaking apart (I replaced it twice) and I think it's time I get a watch for myself.

I'm looking at a budget of 3k for an everyday watch that I wear to at work and attend dinners & something that can withstand a disaster like a flood. I'm aiming for a Hamilton for a watch I purchase on my own. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time.

Edit Im aiming for a mechanical watch.
*
I just sold my hamilton khaki field automatic 38mm ( loved it to bits and sad to let it go) to raise funds, but yes below Rm3k...you cant go wrong with the hamilton khaki series, a few certina divers (used to be able to discount them to get below rm3k)......if you got the wrist, consider the seiko spb143j1 (around Rm4.1-4.2k, over budget yes) ..absolute beast if you got the wrist for it.

Thanks for the input! I'm looking at this after an extensive research.

https://www.hamiltonwatch.com/en-my/h646151...-date-auto.html

About seiko, what's the general perception of the brand? I see it as a common watch. Pardon my language
*
ah no worries on that...the thing is, at least based on what i have observed. People generally dont notice that you even wear a watch unless its gaudy. public perception, Rolex is king..followed by Tag and tissot. Others are just watches, these days...even in high level meeting (we talking gov directors and etc), i saw ladies wearing a 45-46mm ferrari watch (black and red) with suits. Same goes to guys, to the non watch people...they are just watches unless its a Tag, rolex or tissot. Knowing that, buy and wear whatever your heart desires, chances are the people who wants to rob others for their watches...usually know about watches..or its a bloody gaudy obvious rolex (even then they think u wear fake rolex, unless u come with suits,BMW and gold chain Lmao).

On your watch choice, good choice! just know that its quite big, be sure to try them on and see how you feel. Myself im quite conservative (6.5inch wrist saja bossku)...i like to wear watches that the lugs don't stick out from my wristbone (can see the strap go out instead of straight down on wrist), but you get what feels good to you.

You are right with the general perception on rolex that's why I don't wanna be too flashy and get one for my day to day use. I'll try out the Hamilton before buying as I read its not great for those with small wrists.
Another question I would like to asks the experts here how long to those leather straps last? My gift from dad is a sovil Titus leather strap and it keeps breaking apart. First the loop. Second the strap and I paid for a replacement and that replacement broke too.
*
for me, they last a decade, didnt tear yet but looks awful (my old solvil), the rest are used on/off so i cant comment.....i dont do anything special tho, i just use it, it it gets wet in the rain, i rinsed with tap water and hang it to dry.

but do you wash your straps daily or something? leather can last quite sometime...unless u constantly workout wearing it, or very often being submerged in water and etc.

I wear it every day and I have the habit of wearing it fit on my hands. Guess the constant abuse I inflicted on my watches must have reduced the lifespan of the strap. I'll try a nato strap or metal on that Hamilton I'm eyeing. Don't like the idea of flying to kl just to get it replaced or ordering through a third party shop
*
the solvil was my daily also...but i mean if the leather strap breaks, go for aftermarket straps. I like this brand called "bonetti", affordable, quality good also. (price below Rm100 can get nice ones). Janji the measurements (lug width) correct. Myself I like both metal and leather, had a tissot i use daily with a leather strap,(for a year+) so far all good (before i flipped it). But metal is more versatile, as it takes water and etc like a champ...last pretty much forever until the links break i suppose (which is hard to do la, unless alot of force).

sizing watch bracelet?

Lets talk, how do you like yours sized?
I always sit in the weird position of either slightly too tight or slightly loose...either that or I'm too used to using leather =/. Wrist size at 16.5cm~

Asides metal bracelets, what are your "one watch collection" strap alternatives? thanks!

I like mine tight, with no play/movement while on the wrist.
None of my watches have micro-adjustment so they’re all sized a little differently, and I wear them according to what fits for the day’s weather laugh.gif
15450 went up about rm9k - just a hair under rm100k now.

Just change the straps bro.

That's the fun part about watches also.

Yesh! Though i really like how it looks on bracelet, unfortunately not all bracelets are made equal for daily use.

Switched to rubber on the green seiko👍

I remove ss bracelets as soon as I collect a new watch and just use them with straps. I love straps, keep an ever growing collecting of them. Incidentally, all my watches happen to be of 20mm lug width so I can just interchange whatever straps I want with whichever watch. Keeps things interesting  biggrin.gif
