Need some guidance. Am currently looking for my next watch, but would not like it to be an impulsive buy and regret it later as i notice that i tend to choose something eye catching and special, but the design just doesn't survice long.

As previous, Omega Devile Hour Vision has always been my target for first real watch, but I end up getting Omega AT James Bond LE 150M instead. It's a love at first sight for the AT, but the love just doesn't last long.

Now, am looking for my next watch, initial target would be the Omega AT GMT Good Planet, then there comes the impulse for a Rolex BLNR and Speedy Pro.

I'm actually looking for a sustainable watch in terms of design and popularity and would make me love the piece even more through time. In this case, should i stick back to the standard model like the Omega AT GMT, Rolex GMT or sub C etc.

deville hour vision is nice.
that bond aqua terra, i had the first version with date indice... but eventually got irritated at quick-set hour movements.
the AT GMT never entered my consideration since it's just too big.
if want something classic just get the speedy fois.

Love the deville, but the hour vision is the most fragile part of the watch. The SP discourage me to get it as he receive quite a number of watch where the owner broke the saphire crystal of the hour vision and the debris got clogged inside the movement. Cost a hefty sum to repair it.

If your budget already stretch to rolex then just get the rolex. Ull never be satisfied with an omega unless you plan to get a speedmaster pro.

And this is coming from an omega fan.

The Omega AT GMT Good Planet is priced almost at the range of Rolex. Am just concern that might get bored with the BLNR very soon and regret it.

Btw, a new BLNR is priced at RM 39,000, and the SP openly admitted that it is inflated price due to high demand, take it or leave it. Isn't there a price control to prevent AD doing such thing?

Agreed with what you said. Bought my Submariner last month and the sales executive informed me that they aren't allowed to sell it below a certain price but could sell it at any price above the tag.

Was looking for a submariner with date and a few shops were quoting me RM33,500 and one of the dealers around KL quoted me RM36,800 and claimed that prices would be going up again within the next few weeks. Started bullshitting around that the demand is extremely high and Rolex sent a notice of wanting to increase their price within a month. It's now more than a month and they still haven't increased anything and that clearly shows that he was trying to bullshit and squeeze customers.

Told him that I was willing to do a full payment and he slashed the price to 35K immediately. Asked him how the hell he could suddenly provide me with a 5% discount and he claimed that would be the price that he offers to customers i they paid by cash. Told my parents to stop wasting their time and money and ill find another dealer.

I went back to the same dealer the next day and the staff that quoted me previously RM36,800 (RM35,000 by cash) wasn't there. Had another Sales Executive that served me and she quoted RM34,800 if i wished to pay by card.
Clearly shows that the dealers are over inflating the price.
End of the day, went to a different AD and bought a submariner.

Base on your experience, i guess it's the SP that inflate the price instead of the AD since price quoted by 2 AD of the same store is different.
I doesn't quite like the idea of inflation due to high demand, guest i'll just put the BLNR purchase on-hold for now.

My friend did get a black submariner with date back in Nov 2016 for Rm 33,500 at Bangsar's Rolex boutique.

Saw a Pepsi GMT going for IDR 400,000,000 (RM 133k) in Jakarta if anyone interested.

I think all item already is duty free. And if any individual not qualified to purchase the duty free item due to insufficient travel period, that will only happen if the custom officer caught that individual at the exit. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Cause there is one scenario, where my colleague bought a liquor which cost thousand of ringgit with travel period less than 48 hours. The cashier did inform him that he is not qualified, and if get caught my colleague might need to pay for the duty taxes.
*
The above certain stay period at overseas before entitled to purchase duty free product mostly enforced at the border or Langkawi, where public can cross the over easily and misused the duty free. They don't expect people purposely fly in and out of the country just to save that small amount of tax exemption. Also, at the airport, I never encounter a cashier checking my travel period, but at border/Langkawi, they did check though.

As for buying duty free item at the airport, there's no more GST charged, thus, no need to make VAT refund at the airport. Minus the administration and processing fee by the gst collection agent "Global Blue", you will get about 4.5~4.8% off instead of 6%

they need it to prevent u buying more than the limit

btw,i dont think watch falls into same category as cigarette/alcohol?

Even if I buy 2 litters, the cashier only scan 1 passport instead of 2. Just that the cashier will remind you that you need 2 passport to clear to custom check.

Omega DeVille Hour Vision
*
Saw this in watatime midvalley years ago. There's another version which have day-date.

Initially intended to get this, but bought the James Bond AT LE 150M instead. The SA informed that the saphire crystal of the hour vision is quite fragile and will crack if accidentally knocked on to. Repairing it is tedious and cross-finger that the broken crystal does not lodge inside the movement, which further increase the damage.

Personally saw the cracked hour vision when the SA show me the piece send in by customer.

Maybe you are right, someone once told me that watches are duty free in Malaysia, but you can get GST free in airport so technically they cant fine you on that?

DUTY EXEMPTION PER TRAVELLER

Travellers Exempted:

Residents & Non-residents
Conditions:

Non residents having intention to visit Malaysia for not less than 72 hours.
Residents returning after an absence from Malaysia of not less than 72 hours (for Labuan is 24 hours and for Langkawi or Pulau Tioman is 48 hours)

Quoted from http://www.customs.gov.my/en/tp

From my experience, at the airport, they never check how long i have been away.

Hi sifus , currently having a budget of between 500-800rm . Wanted to get a watch for my young brother graduating. He likes black colour stuff , so planning to get a black watch for him. As he is entering into working life, am looking a classy and mature looking guy watch. Hope you guys can help me out . A bit confused on the branch out there like seiko , iwc , Oris and the likes. Btw are there any sale coming soon?

Thank u in advance for recommendation .
*
For starters, what type of field is your brother in? If most of the time out in the field, he will require a more rugged piece.

Start with below 1k time piece from seiko, citizen, orient. He/You can gradually upgrade in accordance to his career achievement later.

Crazy on Ball watches due to its WOW factor, gas tube which is last for 25years. Anyone can recommend best model? Which will make amoi swallow their saliva when look at it?
*
Forget about making Amoi swallow saliva with your wrist watch.

Early amoi (18-24) don't care what is on your wrist. Important is where you bring them to, in what type of transportation how fun are you.
Middle age amoi (25-33) don't care what is on your wrist. Important is, how mature/knowledgeable, powerful/influential you are and how you can help them grow in their career/financial.
Late amoi (34- ). Small group of this will be attracted to your watch. This also because they want to understand more or proabbly get a nice watch for her significant other.
