As per title, does using this converter affects the picture and audio quality?

And what is the standard price for one of these?
Looking up the prices on online shops was more confusing than informative due to the diverse price range. rclxub.gif

Thanks.

Both are digital signal medium. So basically there should not be any quality loss; but there are few issues:

HDMI cables support up to 1920×1200 HD video and 8 channel audio. DVI can stream up to 1920×1200 HD video. With dual-link DVI connectors you can go up to 2560×1600 pixels. However, it does not carry audio signal. You need separate cable for audio, digital or analog. In this case the audio quality depends on the converter quality.

Some DVI cables or ports may include fewer pins. They are designed for lower resolution devices, so be careful. The biggest problem with DVI is that it doesn’t support HDCP encryption. So if your device only includes DVI ports, you may not be able to playback full HD Blu-rays and other HD content. The HDMI supports HDCP encryption for the newest HD content.

I hope this helps. smile.gif

Zot Thanks. Though about DVI, I'm pretty sure they can carry HDCP because my old monitor which only has VGA and DVI input is HDCP-compliance apparently.
The monitor model is Acer X203H.

Yes, all digital connector (HDMI, DVI, DP) are HDCP compliant.
It's up to the display to support it. Some displays are not HDCP compliance hence you'll receive no signal.

You will need ATI proprietary DVI to HDMI adapter if you want audio. Normal one wont do.
