Thoughts around ER-X versus USG with US-8 starting point. Wireless AC will follow later.
How easy or difficult it is to do the initial configuration via the GUI (withour getting into CLI) and ensure a solid firewall. No port forwading stuff etc just enough to get Unifi up and running. The other configuration stuff will come after some experiences with it. |

QUOTE(wanttotree @ Apr 2 2018, 04:29 PM) Most basic and semi advanced stuff can be done via gui on edgerouter these days. It even apply default firewall for u through the wizard. Thank you. Been reading up a lot on unbt stuff. However until you actually play around with them its unlikely the subtle differences will be evident. On the other side, so does usg. Its a lot prettier through the controller. Keep in mind, even usg need a little bit of cli if u want to configure advanced setup. If u could mention a little bit of your setup, i may able to point which one is better in your case. If i have to choose between the two, i still choose erx because of the price. Both can do the exact same thing, through both gui and cli. Most technical reviewers recommend Edge Routers as it has more advanced configurations without going into the CLI. However, high end home network setups blogs tend to favour USG. That is in essence the conundrum. Perhaps the ER-X route is simpler, without the nice network status pane. Know a good source to get one? Thanks. This post has been edited by XPS: Apr 3 2018, 02:03 PM |
