i see.....

awesome.. btw... r u using TM UniFi? Maxis? or TIME?

im curious what is result for dual WAN speedtest if using USG... because last time when use ERlite can get 100+100 = 200mb...  now it detects 100  sweat.gif

I'm using Time at the moment, but hopefully able to add secondary ISP for testing purpose.

Wrong config for your ERlite perhaps? how do you get the secondary wan?

1. yeah probably cable tray or fish through lighting wiring
3. 2 port, one behind living room TV is very central and seems like the perfect location for either a mid wall mounting right behind the TV
*
Consider AP AC in Wall as well.
This wall type AP come with 2 Ethernet Port (1 Data with POE & 1 only for data) This will be useful if you need wired connectivity to your TV or TV box. or else you might place a switch over there.
Ubiquiti USG, 1 AP AC in Wall, 1 AP AC Mesh (place it anywhere you want and set it as wireless)

it just running on wizard... but then cli to remove pppoe.. cz tm have vlan tagging.

both are using TM ISP anyway. now waiting for ER6P coming.. then i will use 3 WAN..

hehe okok, erx vs usg though? i dont think im a very heavy user, mostly lots of video streaming, gaming, and the occasional torrent here and there, its more of getting exposed to UBNT myself, maybe i can start with erx and later on add in usg between erx and uap?

ill go with USG, Cloudkey, UAP AC in Wall, AC Mesh or AC Lite

(USG function as router, DHCP server, managing vlan if you plan to use managed switch) the best part you can manage it from unifi controller

i tot you need to enable it.

modem ---> USG ---> switch ----> AP

unless you do, modem ---> wireless router --->USG (but still u can do dpi) ---> switch --->AP/machines

thanks but cant the ERX also be managed from the controller as well? only thing is the cloudkey which makes it not necessary to have your own vm with the controller instance

I’m using ER-3 which afaik can’t be managed from the Unifi controller. But to be honest I don’t see this as an issue for a small home network.

I have 2 APs (AC-Pro) which I haven’t bothered using the controller for since initial setup, and ER-3 is configured through the web interface.

For a normal home network (2 NAS, 3 desktops, few tablets and mobile devices, 1 laptop) I couldn’t ask for more and don’t have any issues. I have a constant VPN tunnel running to office in UK (OpenVPN to a pair of ER-8) which is very reliable and I don’t recall it ever needing maintenance in the last year or so.

yeah i think USG is overkill for me. maybe somewhere down the line. unified config interface is nice to have, but not a needed to start out

my current lineup looks like this:

ERX
UAP-AC-IW --> Desktop via Gigabit
UAP-AC-IW --> HTPC via Gigabit

APs will serve the mobiles and tablets

Though I did come across the nanoHD which may have a wider range due to the higher Tx power on both 2.4GHz/5GHz compared to AC Pro, sadly doesnt look like its available yet

Ah I’ve not faced any issues with WiFi speed to be honest - only high bandwidth usage I have is streaming 1080P content to iPad which works without issues.

I only stream 4K to TV, but that’s connected by cable anyway - so not looking at doing any WiFi upgrades (for now!)

It works solidly all the time without needing rebooting or any changes - so if it’s not broken I won’t touch it biggrin.gif

Ordered a USG-PRO-4 and UAP-AC-HD today and a few other bits (including a 1U UPS and 9U rack, which I’m sure GF will be delighted at, lol)

Dear all,
need some advise, been researching on this topic but somehow i'm just abit confused on the products/model i should be using.

i would like to extend the wifi from my parent's place to my home which is just few units from her place on the same road.

There is line of sight at the balcony(though i think i need to extend the bar abit to achieve complete line of sight)

so what should i be using to setup this up.

HomeA
Unifi - Modem- Router - Nanostation?

HomeB
Nanastation - Router

????

Thanks all.

HomeB

Nanastation - Switch/Access Point.

No router in Home B, else it will make things complicated.

the red i highlight above, you mean, extend the pole where nanostation will be mounted?
i recommend you to use Nanostation M5 as Nanostation M2 is based on 2.4G and its very congested and it will affecting speed as well.
UniFi modem - Router - Nanostation } Home A
Nanostation - Switch - Router/AP } Home B

this is simple PTP setup. nod.gif
