Getting Started

I'd like to get a recommendation on what product(s) I should be getting for a home office environment. I currently have ideas for something like this. CODE BTU -> EdgeRouter -> Switch (probably a 24-port TP-Link unmanaged) -> UAP AC LR (x2) |______> Clients
Which EdgeRouter should I get? I'm currently on a UniFi 30Mbps link. I would like to be able to use OpenVPN on the router and have rock-solid stability. As of now my ASUS RT-N14UHP keeps dropping out when I'm torrenting. Any help would be much appreciated.

In that case erx would do better than erlite.

Do I need to subscribe to isp to use this kind of networks?
I just wonder because right now my home does not have any kind of internet. TM says that the port in my area is full. so I'm kind of searching for another way to get the internet in my house.

QUOTE(GumballAdventure @ Aug 6 2017, 06:44 PM) They also say the port is full. can ubiquiti networks give my house internet? Nah bro. I think you are confusing ISP and a network company. Ubiquity networks is NOT an ISP. They are selling devices that are used to connect to the Internet, and not providing any connection to the Internet, unlike an ISP, which provide the infrastructure to connect to the Internet. If your port is full, you will just have to wait until they upgrade the port and add more spaces unfortunately.

Need some advice. I'm planning to deploy 3x UAP-AC-PRO to cover my 4000sf office.
I have Maxis Fibre fixed IP. For router side, I can't decide to go with Mikrotik or ERLite-3.
Can any pro advise? I not sure read some where mentioned ERLite-3 not support PPPoE, which I find not very logic.

Hard to find this CPE, mostly 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz available I don't think so that are legal to be use in Malaysia, so far that range of frequency can be used for long range rfid. (i might be wrong, i haven't look closely into MCMC/SKMM spectrum plan/resources).

Er Lite-3 support maxis fiber.. no issue.. even TIME and Tm also can be use... just need know vlan tagging. update to latest firmware and you will see option for vlan tagging... since Erlite have limitted port... and u want deploy 3 AC pro... maybe u can go for use dumb switch (which is cheapest) to give u extra port

RT-N14UHP too low

I use a Raspberry Pi 3 with Pi VPN. My RT-N14UHP just keeps dropping connections in general. Sometimes HyppTV, sometimes internet only, sometimes the whole link.

Looks like TM UniFi got their name from Ubiquiti Networks. By the way Aruba Networks > Ubiquiti Networks. Strong, stable, high throughput on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Once you go Aruba or Ruckus you'll never look back.

Once you go Aruba or Ruckus you'll never look back. They are not in the same league, they are much more expensive as well. Not to mention that you need a controller to unlock the full potential of those system. UBNT is more on SME I believe. I heard the new AC HD from UBNT is pretty good performance wise. May use it to replace some older Ruckus if it is that good.
