Looks like it is compatible with the kind of OLT TM uses.
I believe we still need to obtain the PON password. Newer ONU from TM are locked down.  sad.gif

Its nice to know the compatibility. Hopefully there are some ppl who can figure how to obtain the PON pwd. Was looking at sfp onu module frm huawei, and now this. Getting kinda intrigued.

I'd like to get a recommendation on what product(s) I should be getting for a home office environment.

I currently have ideas for something like this.

CODE

BTU -> EdgeRouter -> Switch (probably a 24-port TP-Link unmanaged) -> UAP AC LR (x2)
                                        |______> Clients

Which EdgeRouter should I get?

I'm currently on a UniFi 30Mbps link.

I would like to be able to use OpenVPN on the router and have rock-solid stability. As of now my ASUS RT-N14UHP keeps dropping out when I'm torrenting.

Any help would be much appreciated.
*
Anything edgerouter wont do too good for openvpn. Unless ur fine with 10-12mbps. In that case erx would do better than erlite.

yes.. TM fiber, they cap 50% up  doh.gif ... edge router not really do proper load balancing even with wizard with ER poe5 in firmware 1.8... the load balancing not work properly. since 1.9 release, i decide to try it again.. now it gives me this result. so i can resell my tplink load balancer.. laugh.gif

and pretty weird.. tplink er5120 give me this speed
user posted image

try it again jz now... even i consult with engineer still unable to fix it..
*
Surprised u were still on 1.8. but hot damn thats nice. Well, u should go ahead get rid of that tp-link. Maybe swap it for a new unifi hd. LOL

yeah... with 5.6.22.. USG also surprisingly have features like blockage categories like streaming media, SNS.... now still playing with it... this one gonna be much easier as totally use GUI.
*
Oh mann.. why did u have to poison me with the usg. Now i wish they sell it cheap in france. I have a lame dilemma of new shoes vs new usg. Let me know if the blockage categories work. Does it block only? Or is there other fancy stuff too?

just asking your opinion on this matter where

1. Line A (TM Unifi)– All staff pc IP range 192.168.x.x
2. Line B (Maxis Fiber) – All Guest devices IP range 10.110.x.x

is this possible to be made? hmm.gif
*
I think it might be possible. U can add additional firewall rules/dhcp(ofcz)/masquerade. Use vlans if ur using lite. But if u have the x, it should be straight forward enough. Let me know if u progress. I havent touched my er lite for almost a year now cz its been working non flaw since i moved it to my parents house. I could definitely replicate that setup with my mtik tho.

was running on pi earlier but shared resources with homebridge and it was killing it. hence decided to run on docker for synology but other than the nice gui on the cloud key it is basically the same thing, now to test is docker stable    else just get the cloud key as it was built for the controller
*
Im using mine on synology docker. I dont see any problem with it so far. Running for a couple of years now. Cloud key is probably best for ppl who dont have dedicated server/machine and want straight forward setup. Anyone who has linux/windows machine lying around might just use that instead. Mind you, desktop grade server still need to add power consumptions into consideration. That is one advantage for cloudkey, its very low powered device. Correct me if i miss something guys.

Btw, pi is good if u use it as stand alone device. If u wanna save some money, another pi running just the controller is probably not a bad idea.

There is another one that is developed by russian guy that has a synology repo. Check http://synology.acmenet.ru
It wont do auto update, but once an update is available, its basically one click away. Try that and u can report back here.

Thoughts around ER-X versus USG with US-8 starting point.  Wireless AC will follow later.

How easy or difficult it is to do the initial configuration via the GUI (withour getting into CLI) and ensure a solid firewall.  No port forwading stuff etc just enough to get Unifi up and running.  The other configuration stuff will come after some experiences with it.
*
Most basic and semi advanced stuff can be done via gui on edgerouter these days. It even apply default firewall for u through the wizard.
On the other side, so does usg. Its a lot prettier through the controller. Keep in mind, even usg need a little bit of cli if u want to configure advanced setup. If u could mention a little bit of your setup, i may able to point which one is better in your case.

If i have to choose between the two, i still choose erx because of the price. Both can do the exact same thing, through both gui and cli.

sifu2 sekalian, one question, i'm in the midst of setting up a new network for my new home.

will tm unifi be able to work with this setup? or must use Edge Router? The reason i chose USG is because all the other products in the environment is from UniFi line.. and i read in the forums USG is more friendly in terms of the GUI. But i'm open to ideas, appreciate the input from experts here..

TM modem -> USG -> US-24-500W -> UAP-AC-LR / PRO
*
Yes sir u can setup pppoe through vlan on usg to work with tm unifi. Usg and edgerouter lite is basically the same hardware. Usg has gui interface running on a controller. Pretty and somewhat easy to figure out. Usg and erlite will perform exactly the same. Usg has prettier interface while having higher price. Erlite isnt as pretty hardware and software wise, but it too is easy to setup. A few clicks away through the built in wizard and u r up and running like a flash. Checkout my tutorial if u need some head start. Either one will be a great buy. Cheers

Guys, I'm planning to buy EdgeRouter X to replace my existing TP-Link C1200. Something like this:

user posted image

1. The C1200 currently has to be put inside store room bcoz fibre endpoint & my in-wall LAN points are there, reducing Wifi strength downstairs.
2. Will the above setup work?
3. I want to at least be able to view traffic utilisation & connected devices.
4. Initially interested towards Mikrotik HEX router + Dude server, but tuned off by its Windows-95-feel GUI.
5. I read that EdgeRouter can use Ubiquiti's UNMS, which look similar to Unifi Controller software that I'm very impressed with.
6. Can I use UNMS to monitor my network with just EdgeRouter X?

Thanks.
*
1) setting up a wired router is always the best scenario. Then followed by descent ap(s). which is totally fine in your case
2) yes it will work fine
3) Through edgerouter gui yes.
4) i have to agree with you about the gui. but if ur talking performance its a whole other story. i have to say hex is a more powerful device overall. but i love ubiquiti for being based off vyatta as i can install a ton of packages. so far i have both ubiquiti and mikrotik, and i find it hard to choose a favourite. anyways, i digress.
5) i will leave this for other guys to answer as i never use one (yet)
6) as stated above.

Usg pro can handle gigabit internet and dpi with breeze. Even the smaller usg can do similarly

Even with dpi, usg can still reach gigabit. Usg pro can still reach higher.
