Dear Sifu-sifu sekalian. biggrin.gif

Actually I wanted to make an idea into reality. I want to make a simple site like Ibilik.my where people can make simple registration and browse for rumah sewa ke, kek lapis sarawak ke. I am looking into something simple macam Ibilik (Not like mudah those kind macam pening saja.)

Any Idea on what is the first step i should do?

1. Finding webhost and buy domain.
2. Use wordpress ka?

Sifu punya advice banyak saya perlukan. Tqvm icon_question.gif

you need custom solution for that,a simple cms wont do the trick....if you can make a simple proof of concept and can monetize it then better make a startup for that

Wix.com would be a suitable solution provided you have the basic of coding. Only you have to pay the premium plan (eCommerce) to take advantage of it's support. If your site could generate enough income, why not? The question is, what makes your portal unique and special compare to other portals which is similar in genre that makes people wanna visit it often? If you have that answer then you could start your business smile.gif

A perspective from a web programmer.

Sounds like you have a good idea but I think an important question you should be asking yourself is whether you have a comprehensive business strategy. Your requirements are not that of a simple static website but of a dynamic web application. If you are certain that you need a dynamic website from the start then here is my suggestion.

Most of the drag and drop website creation softwares are designed for static content and don't handle extensive database features such as user login, authentication, restricted access to content etc.

There is no way to completely avoid web programming for such a project but you can reduce your costs significantly using the following tactics.

I would suggest start by using wordpress for the following reasons.

1. It will certainly meet all your technical requirements such as user login and registration, security, database management, SEO, content management etc and it is scalable.
2. It is the most popular CMS, therefore there are many books, youtube videos and people out there to help and advise you.
The learning curve is not as steep compared to other CMS technologies.
3. You will eventually need to hire someone to ensure that the site is ready and optimised for use as there are a number things such as site security, search engine optimisation, minification of script files and gzippping images etc that improve site loaading speed, the user experience and effectiveness of the website.

If you buy your domain and web hosting and setup wordpress and customise it to the best of your ability and then hire a web programmer to add the necessary features you greatly reduce your cost than if you hire a programmer for a fresh project.

I hope this helps and all the best with your venture.

Find a home-based web developer, he might able to sell u a domain plus hostname. this is how I did last time when I have zero web development knowledge. My friend who is a web developer, he sold me a domain plus hosting for one year, it costs only RM140 per year. 30 mins teaching me how to configure the CPanel, and so on.
I spent 2 months at home to have my own website go live.
