GOBEK API - SATU CIPTAAN MELAYU UNTUK DUNIA

Gobek api ialah sejenis alat yg digunakan utk menyalakan api. Ia diperbuat daripada kayu atau tanduk dan ada yg dihias dgn perak dan emas.

Fungsinya sama dgn lighter hari ini. Gobek api dicipta dan digunakan di nusantara sejak abad ke 17.

Ia berdasarkan prinsip pemampatan (combustion). Udara yg dimampatkan melalui tekanan omboh (piston) menghasilkan kepanasan sehingga 800°F.

Justeru ia boleh membakar cebisan kapas, kekabu atau habuk dari daun enau atau dedalu yg mudah terbakar yg diletakkan di hujung omboh.

Ertinya saintis Melayu dulu dah faham ilmu kimia, fizik dan biologi utk menghasilkan alat kecil yg merupakan inovasi Melayu ini.

Malah seorang saintis Jerman (maaf saya tak ingat namanya) dalam artikel beliau menyatakan kekaguman terhadap ciptaan Melayu ini dan menganggap gobek api inilah yg mencetuskan idea utk Jerman menghasilkan sistem enjin diesel (boleh Google dan baca sendiri).

Apa pun kedatangan explorer Eropah ke Nusantara pada abad ke 18 menyebabkan mereka terlihat gobek api ini lalu dibawa pulang dan dikaji.

Akhirnya pada lewat abad ke 18 saintis Perancis dan Britain mendaftar paten utk alat ini. Awal abad ke 20 pula seorang pereka Amerika Syarikat mendaftar paten di USA di bawah nama fire piston.

Lihatlah betapa mereka menciplak ciptaan nenek moyang kita, memanggilnya dgn nama primitive technology dan kemudian mengaku yg ia hasil ciptaan mereka.

Di mana prinsip intellectual property yg mereka agungkan?

Apapun sedarlah saudara/ri bahawa org Melayu telah mencipta teknologi ini 200 tahun sebelum Barat mampu mencipta alat menghidupkan api. Pada 1805 barulah Jean Chancel mencipta macis di Paris. Pada 1910 barulah Ronson mencipta lighter diikuti Zippo 1932.

Jadi sedarlah wahai org Melayu bahawa anda sebenarnya bangsa yg cerdik dan pernah memberi sumbangan besar kepada tamadun dunia.

An 1876 New York Times article[4] reported the discovery of the earliest date of its use in the west. It reports an address by a Professor Govi that claimed a book written by Father Boscovich, of Rome in 1755, De Litteraria Expeditione per Pontifican Ditionem, (The Clever Mechanism) makes the claim that the fire piston was invented in 1745 by Abbe Augustin Ruffo. This report also claims that the modern fire piston was reinvented independently in the west through experiments with the air gun and not modeled after Asian designs.

It is recorded that the first fire piston made its wider debut in front of scientists in 1802 and was patented in 1807 simultaneously in both England and France. Fire pistons, or fire syringes as they were called then, were popular household tools throughout Europe during the early nineteenth century until the safety match was invented in 1844.

Chinese Matches: History, Facts and Science

The ancient Chinese did have one advantage in that they discovered how to make steel as early as the second century BCE from cast iron. It is easier and quicker to start a fire by striking flint against steel than by striking flint against iron pyrite.

Behind How the First Chinese Match was Made
In the sixth century CE, during the Chen dynasty, a clever maid had a new idea on how to start fires. The story goes that the palace she lived in was under a long siege by a neighboring states’ ruler and his army. When the palace ran out of kindling or other items to use in building fires for cooking and heating, the maid dipped the ends of small pieces of pine sticks into sulfur. Once the sulfur dried, the sticks made fire when rubbed together or lit by sparks. This allowed larger pieces of wood to be used to build the fire and it was quicker than striking a flint rock against steel to produce sparks. These first pine sticks or Chinese matches were essentially developed, manufactured, and used to keep the people in the palace fed and warm.

About four hundred years later around 950 CE, a book written by T’ao Ku, Records of the Unworldly and the Strange, described a similar method of dipping pine sticks in sulfur to produce fire. T’ao Ku described that the sulfur-dipped sticks were stored for later use. The ancient Chinese, as early as the sixth century BCE, knew about sulfur. They’ve used it in Traditional Chinese Medicine since to at least the second century CE. Another name for sulfur is brimstone or burning stone, which lead to the discovery in the eleventh century CE by Daoists, of gunpowder, a mixture of potassium nitrate, sulfur, and charcoal.
