HELP
Sifus, my alza air-con stopped blowing cold air. I checked, the compressor fan is running. I thought is refrigerant gas ran out so I took it to Auto shop to ask if it is really lack of gas problem.
The uncle said the Pulley is burnt (red color), the magnetic coil might be broken too. So plus labor and vacuum is about RM600++.

Does it make sense ?

The uncle quote me RM1580 for changing Air-con pulley + coil + compressor (All Denso product) + vacuum + cabin filter.

Any comment ?

why compressor and aircond pulley is seperate? They not come together? Coil? Condenser or evaporator? Or both? if compressor + condenser + evaporator then it is a good pricing as they use denso products.
*
Nope, the uncle say just compressor + pulley + magnetic coil + vacuum. The condenser just dirty so he will take it out and clean it.

PS : Now confirmed, just compressor + pulley (not sure is recond or not). Flush and clean condenser + vacuum. Will list down all changed items with price when I get the receipt upon collecting my car later.

if more than 1k, better get quote from perodua too...
*
GG... Does perodua quote for free if you dont bring in your vehicle ? Not unless you know someone who works in perodua right ? This wont be considered as Repair Order but rather more like Part Order or Part Retail Order since I do not walk in with my vehicle

I twice went to perodua to get quote to change timing belt for myvi and viva, (1.0) use timing belt. You can try list the part you need and ask them to quote. It is a standard for seller to let now the price before sell...
*
You went to their SC ? do they offer online customer service ? like email or live chat ?

How long is yr alza actually ?
Honestly, ask the aircond man to do pressure test. If no leaking, there's no reason to replace evaporator or cooling coil.
*
Bought it since 2011. First thing I ask him to check was refrigerant gas. Is this what you called pressure test?
At first he said gas no problem, both low and high pressure tube are moving.

New compressor doesn't come with magnetic clutch?... Fishy...
*
This is the point where his words gives me the red sign. From what I heard (at least) a new compressor comes with a magnetic coil ( or clutch ?). I have looked up online, clutch cost 330 and compressor cost 950.

He said he discounted the compressor, but then charge me 400 something for clutch.....

If yr compressor clutch is kaput, how he able to test either the gas pumping rate is good or not on low side and high side.
Pressure test means A/c man pump some refrigerant o N2 gas into system and observe from gauge either there's any leak or not after observe maybe around 2 hrs.
Some car  have low pressure switch. If run out of refrigerant due to leaking, it'll prohibit the compressor from running. In this case, you won't see the compressor clutch is engage.

Ideally If micro leaking case, you'll feel your aircond cooling effective gradually not as cool. If it's overnight not cool, then it's not due to evaporator leaking.

Normally compressor internal damage, it's advice to solve it immediately to avoid the the contamination of broken part damage the evaporator.

Remember to get the a.c. man do flushing during replacement of compressor. Else u may seeing evaporator damage in short period of time after replacement.
*
I see. Now I am starting to doubt how he was able to say pressure good if the clutch was really broken....(I actually doubted him in my mind)

The clutch was not running and he pointed out the clutch to me saying it is burnt because it is in red color. (I asked my foreman friend and he said if the clutch melted it will look like a red chocolate donut)

Now I assume the evaporator you are mentioning is also called Condenser ?? Because the uncle did say he helped me to flush out the condenser. Otherwise my air-con will not be cold again after few months.

Learned something new through your post. Thanks sifu.

Just hope that both compressor and clutch are really ORIGINAL. If it is recond, I am going to spread bad news all over the internet and make sure that he will no longer get any customers.

Now key is it is working good and hope lasting.

If can, make sure you change the cabin filter at least once a year or every 20k km.  sometimes it is very dirty after 6months.
*
So far its been a week, air-con working fine and feel cold under hot sun (which it already was before it broke down). I will make sure to update once a week here to let people know.

Thanks for the info sifu, will put up a reminder in my list. In fact I changed mine exactly one year ago in Perodua SC.
This part I really need your knowledge sifu.
The uncle told me he changed one original for me, claimed the one im using when it broke down was " No good " one. He claim it was too thin and full of tiny holes that dust will get in easily.

The one he slide in was exactly the same one when Perodua SC person said my old cabin filter very dirty that is why P2SC changed it for me. Samples below.

user posted image << The one he said no good.

user posted image << The one I was using before P2SC changed it for me, and this is also the one the uncle changed for me now.

Well even an authorized denso service center would con you too. I remember I sent my old myvi few years ago to denso authorized dealer in Glenmarie and he demand more than rm3000 to fix the aircon issue. I end up sending the car to a shop in Kepong and get the aircon fix at rm600 and its working fine until now.
*
Then I think I got con lol....

I think it will be good to 'keep' a list of good workshops and everyone maintain it.

Not just AC, but also other good or bad SC... etc.

I shall create one thread specifically for SC then.

Seems to be too general..and you are very quick.. i think we need to 'brainstorm' first on how to if wanted to..

Maybe more specific, the objectives like Perodua SCs... someone would need to maintain the master list.
optionally,  I am thinking an excel file that parked somewhere where everyone here can put in remarks or updates so there is no duplications too.

We tried not to create something for more work from all here... unless majority okay to contribute, my view.

Any suggestion guys ?!
*
I know one solution... Google Spreadsheet !!! Omg you have a good point. Can you create one ? And then I just update the link into my post.

I have wrote regarding this before, if you have bought the thin high flow filter can actually install both combined. The thick normal filter on top of the thin high flow filter.
Best of both world...

The high flow filter is reuseable as the thick filter will be more dirty.
*
Yet the uncle told me it is a bad filter and should not use it and swap it with a cheap thick filter that cost 45 ringgit (20 something in spare part shop). I am speechless.
