I'm having a problem with my BitTorrent service.Every time when I started a torrent download,I get a stable speed of at least 30++kB/s.But this condition doesn't last long.It lasted for a miserable 30 minutes before the download speed dropped to 0 kB/s.Things are fine again for another 30 minutes after I've restarted the modem and BT client. How can I solve this problem? It is very annoying especially when I'm downloading files that are up to gigabytes as I can't spend my sweet time restarting the modem every 30 minutes.Thank you very much for your help!

That's the throttling of TMNet....Once it identifies it as p2p especially BT, the connection speed will drop unless you are connecting to local peers.

There are several way to get around this:

a) Try one of those chinese clients tuotu or xunlei (only works for some ppl)
b) Use a VPN service...which is what I'm doing along with several other providers in the networking garage sales section.

For popular files there are also local torrent sites.

Thank you for your reply.I've tried Xunlei, but the results are rather unsatisfactory.I managed to get 30++kB/s with uTorrent eventhough TMnet throttles it after every 1/2 hour but Xunlei just download with a poor speed of 3kB/s.Is there any specific settings that I have to change in order to make it efficient?

By the way,is it possible to connect to more peers when using uTorrent? The total peers seem to be 200+ but I can only connect to 40 max.I've changed the max peer connection to a higher number but things still don't work out. Thanks!

I have no personal experience with Xunlei but got a bit put off with Tuotu as I can't seem to uninstall it cleanly.

However with utorrent, setting your max peer connection to a higher number will actually reduce your speed. The recommended number for our normal streamyx lines is in between 200-300 global connections and around 80-100 per torrent. BitTorrent automatically decides how many seeds/peers you can connect to and 40 is not a bad number to be honest.

However this is all pointless considering that TM throttles so as many connections as you can get, you won't get decent speeds.

# BitLord - based on old buggy BitComet code.

Don't use it.

T_T

Use utorrent or azureus.
