You can buy the Mi 5 local set via the Xiaomi Malaysia Authorized Shops, the list you can access by here:
https://www.facebook.com/notes/569273276610104
Also some online sellers also got sell local set in lazada, gemfive, their own website, but so far local set only got white color and only 32GB variant.

For other variants/other color options, the Mi 5 oversea set can be considered also, but usually the oversea set come with vendor ROM which is full of malwares and buggy so you need to flash to official Global/China stable/dev ROM yourself before using.

All the Xiaomi Mi 5 is come with this in their box:

The Mi 5 local set and oversea set hardware is exactly the same so don't worry for the LTE compatible except webe and both Malaysia and oversea set can't support webe LTE as it use band 5.

Why buy Xiaomi Mi 5 local set?

Of course, there's another way to flash the Globla/China ROM also by using recovery mode but it's not 100% success since it may will stuck halfway, however here's the link to see:

The spec for oversea set and local set is exactly the same, just the preload ROM is different, if you wan to buy oversea set u need to reflash the ROM since the preload ROM is vendor ROM which is buggy, you can refer to the walk-through I post in second post.
The LTE is supported by all local telco so dun worry.

Reported from last thread, yes applicable to all telco, so far no people report incompatible problem on network.
I'm using DIGI 4G LTE, no problem showing 4G on top bar.

Ya it's available you can get it from XDA

However I think you might need to unlock bootloader to install this, I'm not looking into unlock bootloader yet
