in my opinion, if u wish to do ur degree there, i advice u to finish ur masters there too, at least at the MA, u'd go for a much more reputable insitution (best would be top 10 in ur field or overall above 30). No point graduating from a uni where not many have ever heard of

well, sheffield hallam is a new university for one thing. located right smack in the middle of sheffield. well, since it's new, it doesnt have much of a reputation, but i dont wanna say that it's a low class university coz i've never even met a single graduate from there.

however, i my lecturer back in msia is currently doing his PhD there, but that's only because sheffield hallam apparently paid more to their experts than most other universities in the UK.

ya, if go there, hope to get master as well..
consider of $ matter yawn.gif ...others uni seems too expensive for me.. this 1 is more affordable...
sometimes confuse, wil it be useful if i come out from a uni which is not famous(but at least i get a master)...or juz a degree(but from better uni)

i wouldn't say its a bad uni due to its recognition or anything since its newly established. wat worries is the career employability. Surely they would have good lecturers but based on their reputation no one is sure what this uni is capable of.

anyway, fairy6262, you can always be the pioneer in achieving success n glorify that institution, they might handsomely award you scholarship in future too for ur MA =P. anyway this site here http://education.guardian.co.uk/universityguide2004 usually helps those who wish to study in UK. though might not be 100% accurate, at least it gives you a brief idea abt the places u can opt to go for. Anotehr ranking would be the Times Good University guide.

What I'm about to say is just my personal opinion. I do not intend to offend anyone , directly or indirectly or whatever, duh...

Sheffiled univeristy is a reputable university.

Sheffield hallam(another university) is the top ten lousiest univeristy in the UK. Given a chance, Don't go there man. They are definitely not worth you. If you are spending pounds for that....not worth a single penny.

You must be in Tarc's business school.

Peace

SHU better than Liverpool? Well, I don't know about that. But what I do know is Univeristy of Sheffield is better than Liverpool, but I'm not too sure about Sheffield Hallam University. Liverpool excel in Aeronautical Engineering, if I'm not mistaken.

Many of these universities are post 92 universities, universities which were polytechnics before 1992. It is akin to a Nigerian coming to Malaysia to study at KUSTEM or whatever KKTT we have here.

These universities are cash-strapped, anyone who has money can register anytime.

It is alright to spend 3 months and get a degree from SHU, but if one considers to do the entire 3 years there, one is nothing but a fool. More than a fool actually.

It is also sheer folly to get an MA in marketing either from SHU or some place else.

actually, the tuition fees for University of Sheffield is a little higher than the fees at SHU (i'm looking into engineering courses only), it;s the cost of living there is very high. since u're going to sheffield, y dun u go for university of sheffield since the cost of living for this 2 universities is the same? at least it's more reputable..

FYI, the University of Sheffield is an original University and you should not expect them to offer short term courses (for instance the 3 months' course at SHU).

Tuition fees are as below:
http://www.shef.ac.uk/international/money/tuitionfees.html

Thanks.

To put it another way, one should only consider universities established via Royal Charter.

would be best you try to enter other Uni to do your further studies. i would advice u to go Nottingham Semenyih to do EnE and twin further to the UK campus. By all means, try not to go SHU if possible.

you should consider carefully before taking the 3month top up course , its gonna take you 1-2 months to adapt to the UK culture especially if its your first time abroad. The moment u feel settle down , its time to fly back to msia. WTF !

No idea about the education quality though, but the building is pretty decent for a university *cough*. Plus theres a strip joint nearby biggrin.gif.
