i think branded tuners are of better quality with better gear ratios, etc for accurate tuning.

Yes..... Good tuners makes all the difference. My ZW-LP Custom comes with Grover tuners and they are very stable in terms of tuning and re-tuning. My LP-100 uses the regular tuners and it's usually all over the place. Plan to replace them with grovers soon too.

Best if you can get Locking Tuners..... like the Grovers.... will be willing to try some other brand like Gotoh or Schaller.... if they can last.....
