[quote=wkc5657,Mar 7 2017, 03:38 PM] Highly likely that none of the owners here started changing the ATF fluid.
Yes, it is considered "lifetime" fluid, because in most mature markets use the car for less than 6 years. Some after the end of their lease period of 3 or 4 years, they swap their cars. So for average for cars like these, the mileage hit should be within the 200k km mark, it is within the "lifetime" of the car.
But for our markets, most of us hold on the cars for at least twice the time mainly due to the pricing and loan term involved. So, if you want to keep your car problem free after 5 years, it is advisable to change it after 3 years, or when you reach the 80k km mark. The factory fill is fully synthetic type, so more durable and technically should last at least 100k km. But have to consider our driving condition where there is a lot of start stop traffic, so need to bring the target mileage lower to compensate for the additional wear. You can start considering it during 60k km.
But for torque converter type transmission, the best method of replacing fluid is through the "dialysis" method where the fluid is flushed out in a controlled manner using a machine which pumps in cleaning additives and then the new fluid. Takes at least an hour, usually around 2. Just the drain method will not allow the fluid stored in the torque converter to fully drain out. These "dirty" portion will eat up the additives from the new fluid fill very fast.
a machine to filter out the dirt? where can i find such services bro?
i do change every 20k coz im used to it.. last change is my 1st 20k, i know they say its a lifetime thing but i did it anyways like my other previously own cars. i must admit there is a difference.

QUOTE(Ginny88 @ Mar 8 2017, 01:31 PM) Why don't you guys just trust what the SC tells you that there is no need to change the ATF for life? They are guaranteeing the car for 5 years and I'm sure they have taken into account local driving conditions. Not to say that there are no traffic jams and start stop traffic overseas. well my SC guy told me if can change every 30k.. not sure we get 5 years warranty but its mileage dependent.. besides some of us uses the car very frequently, besides we havent taken into account the way one drive. when i change my ATF oil at the milage of 20k. the ATF is already turned dark brown.. good call for me then..

QUOTE(wkc5657 @ Mar 8 2017, 02:28 PM) It is separate, but usually change it to assure from leaks. Although experienced mechanics do sometimes change the gasket in alternate intervals. But to be safe, always fluid + filter + gasket. Colour change is not the definite indicator. Engine oil also turn darker after 1 week fresh fill. To give some perspective towards fully synthetic ATF, i'll reference against what i read before on Hyundai/Kia's version. The Korean's 6 speeder is also considered as "lifetime". That means, no need to change. I know someone driving with such a unit for 200k+ km, but got some weird behaviour once in a while although didn't cause the driver concern. The australian side service advice did have a special clause saying something like due to the harsher environmental conditions, the transmission fluid change interval is set at 100k km. Although different formulations take into account, the korean 6 speeder is also fully synthetic type fluid. So, i believe the ball park number around 100k km for ATF change is sufficient; 60k if you're overly cautious; 80k for somewhere in between, which I personally target to. you definitely have a point there but it really depends on how u use the car. i rather have fresh oil in my tranny given the way i drive rather than one which might last till a "lifetime", a vague definition given by them.
