It should be changed. If you ask SC, they will tell you service fill meaning no need change. Then you challenge them, ask them give you lifetime warranty on gearbox.

Actually you can YouTube and watched the video, some people oversea already find out it can be change although they make it looks like service fill. They also find out after like 50000 km++ mileage, the fluid turn to milky colour. You can Google and get your answer there.

Why can't you believe the SC? Their info comes from the manufacturer. They are not going to give you wrong info and get hit with warranty claims and lawsuits from gearbox failures. Even after warranty expired they can still be claimed for giving wrong info resulting in gearbox failure.

Sure manufacturers know more as they built the car. But they can only know so much. Those who really know are the owners who use the vehicle for years. Manufacturers can only test for what they can and cost effectively. Why do you think each new model release is suddenly the best? What happened to last year's "best".
Anyway can't believe most SCs cuz they can be wrong too. What newhouseowner says is correct. SC says fluid lasts a lifetime or minimum 100K but will not agree to give you a warranty blank cheque to match their words. Ask around any decent Mazda forum or fb group and you'll get stories of gearbox failings or almost failing at around 50000km. Some even earlier than that. It always starts/exhibits the same, gear changes not as smooth, serious lag from shifting to D or reverse before movement, etc. Guess what, in many cases, these issues that shouldn't exist in the first place "magically" cease to exist AFTER the ATF is drained and replaced. What does that tell you? Don't get me started on the latest news about diesel engine failures. It would be unwise to think that Mazda engineers didn't know about the high possibility of it happening. They probably did and warned management, but knowing most management, they'd push on anyways. Luckily and as you pointed out, they are allowing free engine overhaul for such owners, at least in Taiwan. I haven't heard anything Malaysia-wise.

I'm no engine expert. Just a consumer.

Before I go for further explanation, you need to be open minded and no hard feelings, otherwise, it is useless for this discussion.

Let me started with my own experienced, I own a Chevrolet aveo year 2004, in the owner manual, manufacturer said inspect the ATF oil by authorised service center. This car was 40000 km or 2 years warranty whichever is earlier at that time. Throughout 40000 km service by their SC, they don't even check the ATF oil colour, smell or whatever. In the last 40000 km, I questioned the SC why no changed ATF, they told me no need but I trusted and let it be. So after that, I drove for extra 1000 km to 2000 km, gear started to lockup meaning shifting from 1st gear to second gear, rpm must pull into 3000rpm-3500 rpm for shifting. This phenomenon occurred occasionally until now the car is 304000 km mileage. Lucky gearbox no damaged but need to bear with the awkward shifting. Ask yourself can SC Malaysia be trusted?

In 2008, I bought Mazda 3. In owner manual, manufacturer also said inspect ATF oil by authorised SC which is bermaz. This car was 100,000 km or 3 years warranty at that time. Bermaz service sheet only changed the oil at 100,000 km. So I questioned SC, they said service at 100,000 km. So at 50,000 km, I inspected the oil myself, guess what, the colour turn into slight pink brownish with some burned smell. I quickly drove into SC and told them to change and I paid the money myself. It only cost me RM 200++ at that time. Again, ask yourself, can SC Malaysia be trusted?

I had surveyed Mazda 6 for quite many years and I own 2017, throughout my researched, ATF oil for skyactiv transmission need to be changed. If you take a look at engine bay, you can't see the ATF oil dipstick but doesn't mean it is service fill. The dipstick can be access by removing some of the part in surrounded area. As I said before, you YouTube it then you can get your answer there. Ask yourself, if really service fill, why foreign owner found it milky colour after 50,000 km of driving and not nice colour of green ( I assumed it is green colour because I forgot the actual colour).

As far as I know, many SC regardless of brand try to skip this ATF oil changed during warranty even hap seng for Mercedes. I don't know what is their motive, if you think SC can be trusted then good luck, I better trusted myself, I only trust them 50%.

You have to keep in mind below:
1.Malaysia law doesn't protected us as a owner like USA did.
2. As far as I know, there is no ATF oil can last for service fill in today oil technology. None of it.
3. If Mazda really breakthrough service fill oil, why they can't give owner lifetime warranty clearly stated in owner manual? But in other hand, bermaz just said no need change by word of mouth only? Why foreign owner found it otherwise? Make any sense?
4. I just try to let other owner be smarter as possible. If you think I'm bullshitting, then just ignore my post and go your own way.

Voncrane also raised some valid point.

See the Mercedes owner posted in FB. 3 years SC didn't changed for him. SC make us don't trust them.

Exactly, consumer protection laws on cars here are pretty much non-existent. There's not even a lemon law. Means if you buy a lemon unit, you are stuck with it till you agree to take a huge depreciation hit and sell it off.. Suffer for an issue that's clearly a manufacturer problem. I've got a friend who's going thru the same issue with a Ford Focus. I was just reading posts on the CX-5 FB group. An owner is complaining about a gearbox failure just at 100k km. From records, it appears the SC never changed his ATF oil and guess how much they are asking him to pay to fix it...Mind-boggling RM30,000! shocking.gif shocking.gif He's currently battling to have them replace for free and they are giving all sorts of excuses, including waiting on Japan to respond. It's been awhile and they didn't even offer him a courtesy car replacement while this is going on.. Crazy...

Any car need to change the ATF oil at 40k to 60k. Please check the atf oil condition at 50k and you will know why it need to be changed. It only cost rm2++.
At 40k or 50k service, mazda sc at my place recommend to change the oil but says it is optional. Up to the customer whether want to have it changed or not.

It is bluish colour, type FZ.

Strangely, the franchise dealer that i usually visit actually mentioned to me that when in reach 50k, they will bundle it under normal service schedule.

----

On a side note, for those with the intermittent knocking sound, that service staff actually found a not common cause, caliper play. So they pulled up the caliper pins, stuff in more grease, no more light knocking sound.

But mine still got the "tok" sound when go through certain road humps, so i'll still pester for them to give me coil spring protector and bump stopper for the warranty claim.

The ATF-FZ for Skyactiv transmission is just only RM120++ for 4 Liters. I had changed mine at 1,000km and 30,000km. Regardless lifetime or given interval, with just RM120++, it can prolong your transmission for many years to come. In fact, I had been practicing to change the ATF every 20,000-30,000km on my previous car. The transmission has no problem until I sold off that car at over 200,000km with aggressive driving.

Just get it change on your upcoming service. icon_rolleyes.gif

Do take note as well upon reaching 100k km, do change the filter as well... that will cost around RM600++ with labour.

So few M3 hatchbacks on our roads. It looks sportier with its visible twin exhaust tips. On the price list the HB cost slightly more than the sedan.

I guess locals prefer the larger boot space offered by the sedan. smile.gif
