my friend is currently looking for a mazda 3, but cant decide on whether to get it new (GVC HS) or second hand (previous GS, year 2015/2016).

if we were to put the warranty aside, is it worth it to get the new one? (roughly around rm400 difference in terms of monthly payment)

hope you guys can give some opinion on this.

One more thing to consider is how soon you want the car. If you need it at a certain date or want it early, then better get previous model. There's currently of waiting list for GVC model. My delivery date has been pushed a few times, and still without any confirmed date.

Yes, it will be fine, provided you get a proper lead acid charger that have build in circuit controls and fail safes. Most commonly found are chargers from bosch and ctek. I'm using it for all the cars in the family for 3 years, no issues.
*
I have some questions:

1. How do you check how much voltage your battery is? Use a multimeter?

2. You have any info on where to buy good lead acid battery chargers in Malaysia?

Thanks!

Yes, just use normal multimeter. Anything below 12.3V for normal batteries, it is close to dying. Only AGM type batteries can be revived after fully discharged.

Or if the multimeter method is a hassle, you can use something like this (although multimeter should be more accurate) :

Most major online purchasing portal sells them, plenty around. Here are some examples :

https://www.lelong.com.my/catalog/all/list?...smart%20charger
http://www.fasmoto.com/tools-equipment/battery-charger

I personally am using ctek MXS 5.0

Bought a generic car battery in SS14 after having the battery warning light on since April (I love that the istop doesnt function..) but yeah I only went to change after my start up feels very, very weak. I know I'm playing a risky game. They initially told me to bring it back to service centre because it has the i-stop function and the battery they changed will disable that. I told them that's fine. Then they wanted to charge me MYR650 for a battery "specifically" made for my car size. I told them that's too expensive and ask them for a different kind. So they gave me some generic brand and charged me MYR477 including GST, one year warranty. iStop functioned again. Is that weird?

You could have got an EFB i-stop battery for RM450 - RM500. The i-stop may work when it is new but for how long? The SC has already warned against using normal battery as it may lead to premature battery failure and alternator failure.

The shop you went to is terrible! Your car size is only C-segment, there is no justification for RM650 for a "battery specifically made for your car size". Even D-segment car battery can get for RM300 or less The generic battery they sold you may be worth only RM200. For the price you paid you could have got an i-stop compatible EFB battery. Maybe they see Girl--->easy to cheat. drool.gif

The normal battery will fail prematurely under the strain of i-stop. This is not normal low capacity failure this is a collapse of the battery internal structure. If unlucky it may also wreck the alternator when it fails. There's nothing much you can do now except to switch off i-stop EVERY TIME you get into your car and hope for the best. And next time ask first BEFORE pulling the trigger instead of after.

How old is your car? If it is new, it will go off in a week or 2 and may recur once or twice. After that, won't happen anymore after 3 months.

I thought since the istop wont work so it should not matter. I was hoping the istop would be disabled. Can I do that via the service centre?
