Hi all, im a nikon user, I used to be avtive in wedding photography but for the last 3 years it's a bit slow..im now more to travel photography..my current gear is Nikon D800, Nikon 24-70mm F2.8, Nikon 70-200mm F2.8 & 50mm F1.8G..i just think to sell all my nikon gear and switch to Sony A7 III..need some opinion from u guys about my decision..tq
*
Depend on your budget. If your nikon still making good shots, it is not really worth it to switch, just for slightly lighter and smaller camera setup (traveling concern).

If you really switch to mirrorless world and buy Sony A73, you should wait until year 2020 or 2021, Sony A74 release, then buy Sony A73 for cheaper price, probably 5k by that time.

Yeah my nikon still making a good shots but i think the time has come for mirrorles..my gear just sit in the drybox all the time and off course i didnt bring it with me to travel because of the weight..my early plan is to buy Sony RX100 III for travel but when i checked the price i realize that i need to pay nearly 4k for it and still my nikon gear remain untouch in the drybox..better sell it & use the money to buy sony..
*
That guy is right. Seems like you're having GAS, if you want travel lightly, maybe consider Sony cheap apsc body with some Sigma prime lenses, Sony release new 16-50mm f2.8 for apsc.

Yeah you are right but when a new toy in your hand u must be use it often rather than let it sleep in the drybox 😄

I know that not a cheap gear that i own now..im not getting the same gear as nikon when i switch to sony..its just A7 III + 24-70mm F4 is enough..time for heavy expensive FF body + heavy expensive 2.8 lens is over for me..im going low now with sony system..although im no longer in the field of wedding/event photography but my photography interest is still there..
*
Zeiss Sony 24-70mm F4 is expensive, better buy Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 RXD for Sony FE, not so expensive only 3k+ or buy used.
I owned one currently, traveling 24 - 28mm doesn't make huge different anyway.
This Tamron is light and small, it has very good review all over sites and youtubes, also extremely good minimum focus distance (19cm) for little macro or detailed shots, sharp lens too, really worth buying it if you really want to switch.

Or you want that extra 4mm wide, you may consider new Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 for Sony FE, around RM4.5k.

Sony A7III (RM7000) + Tamron 28-75 f2.8 (RM3000) or Sigma 24-70mm (RM4500)
Buy used if want cheaper or lack of budget

2.6k, you can top up slightly more to get rm3k Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 or Sigma 24-70mm f2.8

if 4mm wide is not your concern, 4mm could make some difference, but traveling not so much

wanna ask, when i attached my godox flash. the screen always pop out 'this accessory not supported the device and cannot be used'...how can i solve this issue?
*
Make sure you are buying correct Godox flash, for example V860S, S = Sony.

Other reasons, you need to mount deeper.
Turn off silent shooting.
Or your godox flash hot shoe is broken, I had one broken, just buy new godox flash hot shoe to replace.

Selling 70-200mm f2.8 GM for Sony Zeiss 16-35mm f4 and probably Sigma or Sony 135mm f1.8

Don't know which to get for that 135mm f1.8

Will miss this 70-200, but having 135mm f1.8 is lighter and sharper, can 200mm by apsc mode x1.5.

Yes, the godox flash is S version for Sony.
The silent shooting will affect the functionality?
I need to send the flash for checking..make sure the hotshoe is ok
*
You can't fire the flash while on silent shooting, flash required mechanical shutter

Most likely, the hot shoe electronic pins are broken, can easily fix by replace new hot shoe, buy from shopee

Just replace mine last month

Use case; photo n video usually shoot people, birthday, vacation pic n video

Budget around 8-12k like that lah depending on lens selection

Think sony better fit
Only thing holding me back from sony is I think sony color a bit yellow same like nikon maybe because use same sensor

Hmmmm
*
Sony A7III (RM6k+) + Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 (small and lightweight, RM3k+) or Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 (RM 4.5k+ new release, weighty for traveling)
Sony A7III + Sony FE 35mm f1.8 (RM2k+) + Sony FE 85mm f1.8 (RM2k) or Samyang FE 85mm f1.4 (RM2.7k, if you want more creamy bokeh / background blur, and remember to ask the seller whether this Samyang 85mm is new stock, if new stock, it has firmware v04 better AF focus performance)

Are you zoom (preferably versatility) or primes lens guy?

4mm wide angle does make difference, but if you are shooting photos casually, that 4mm wide end doesn't matter that much.

Yellow cast on photos, I shoot RAW, majority people shoot RAW, white balance can adjust as you wish. Subjective matter.

Is it a good time to get a7iii or wait for a7iv?

The price didn't drop much compared to few months ago

Ps:not desperate for a new camera
*
Sony rumor says Sony A7IV is around this year, but still a rumor. I think it is likely next year.

Since no hurry for new camera, wait for Sony A7IV release and Sony A7III price drop further more (now RM6k+).
I doubt Sony A7IV has any big changes, just that Real Time Tracking AF, Body like new release A7R4 & A9II, minor improvement only. Maybe 24mp to 30mp.
Sony could give us this firmware Real Time Tracking AF update on 3rd gen body, but you know I know...

If the A74 price is around $2200, it's better and worth your money to get A73 for cheap price.

good explanation..i take it as advice because my situation same with ts but a bit difficult..i need to sell my nikon gear for funding
*
If no funds, you can consider Sony APSC with new Sony 16-50mm or Sigma apsc primes. Otherwise, fujifilm apsc line.

(just do it) Sell Nikon to get Sony FF. I also sold my Sony FE 70-200mm f2.8 GM just now for RM7300 (bought 1 year ago, rarely use), I bought it for RM9.5k
Rarely use it and collect dust because it is quite weighty to carry for long time. RM2.2k sacrifice to get new Tamron 17-28mm & Samyang FE 85mm f1.4.

Now, I have Sony A7III + Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 + Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 + Samyang FE 85mm f1.4.
Wanna to sell Tamron 28-75mm f2.8, but it is too good to sell, it is so versatile and lightweight for travel and anything.

Even though big money loss (sold 70-200mm f2.8), it is not my first time, 1 big lens for 2 lenses in return is more worth the photography experience.
Can get wider view with Tamron 17-28mm f2.8, better bokeh/background blur with that Samyang FE 85mm f1.4, more importantly, save my backs.
This is my endgame, unless my camera body is broken and need to change.

Lesson, don't follow GAS.

biggrin.gif But feel like 17 not enough kick leh.

12-24 + 24-70 should be good. If prime maybe 85mm F1.8 if zoom 70-300 biggrin.gif

I doubt I will make the jump anytime soon. Phone nowadays just too capable and versatile
*
17mm is more than enough for me. Actually I don't usually shoot at this wide range. SONY 12-24mm f4 can't accept front filter, the new Sigma 14-24mm f2.8 also cannot. The 16-35mm GM is too expensive, and also big.

Telephoto zoom is good and effective for event, wedding ceremony & dinner, sport only. Otherwise, better to get primes to shoot.
Too big, spotty they said, people notice you easily, pretty awkward to shoot portraits with it. So, I sold 70-200 f2.8 GM for greater goods.

I'm impressed to see many of your photos don't have bright sunlight cast on the person, are you shooting in the shade or diffuse the sunlight?

That lens new sell around 3000, you can probably trade in or sell it for at least 1700 or lower.
