Upgrading of firmware is a risky procedure; do it with utmost care and attention:
When performing the firmware upgrade, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or the AC adaptor AC-PW20 (sold separately).

Do not remove the battery or AC adaptor during the upgrade; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.

Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.

When using an A-mount lens with the LA-EA2 Mount Adaptor (sold separately) and setting to use the AF Micro Adj. function, the registered value is reset

Izzit? I went to Sony Center at The Curve few weeks ago and saw RM2399 for A6000 body only wo. With the SELP1650 kit lens it cost RM2699. rclxub.gif

If its RM1900 for body + kit lens means body only should be around RM1600-1700?. Then its a no brainer sweat.gif

When you go to Sony center, you should ask them for cash price. They have to display the expensive price because of Sony's requirement. You might be surprised with what they can offer you (very good discount) sometimes. However, that is not applicable to EVERY Sony center. This is what I got from the manager of Sony Center in Sibu, Sarawak.

New Version yah ? hmm.gif I rike brows.gif

yes its still worth it, not the age issue, but the replacement, A6300, cost 5K for the body, so 2399 still worthy, and since a6k has near to zero flaw camera... unless you Need 4k video on the A6300 else A6k is the prefect rounded camera.

ever since the first generation of NEX, the 16mp sensor has provided a very decent usable 1600/3200 iso. anything more is just extra. the color, wb is also very accurate even vs later camera like 5d3, 6d which i used to shoot milkyway with me that result is diff white balance detection in every shot.

here is from nex3, jpeg and stitch over 30 images.

yes its still worth it, not the age issue, but the replacement, A6300, cost 5K for the body, so 2399 still worthy, and since a6k has near to zero flaw camera... unless you Need 4k video on the A6300 else A6k is the prefect rounded camera.

you forgot the missing microphone jack on the A6000. tongue.gif
videographers need that one for external mic support.

BTW, a SOOC spam...
guidance is appreciated...

Not half bad for a NEX-3N huh?.  biggrin.gif
@LightningChan , the one I went is an Official Sony Store. It is listed on Sony Malaysia website. If you dont believe me, give them a call, at the number I've posted below (you can check sony website to confirm the number) ask for the manager and try nego with him the item you want. See what the manager says. Just don't mention you are from semenanjung.

The point I'm trying to make is "Never try never know".

p/s: By the way, nice shot from a NEX-3N thumbsup.gif .

Nice Shot! rclxms.gif I'm no expert, but to my 2 cents opinion, I think a bit too much shadow on the face. Perhaps you can use a reflector to open up the shadow on the face. If that was intended (with the shadows) then forget what I said. sweat.gif

thank you. i am fine with either options but as you mentioned, it may look better by reducing the shade on her face.
meanwhile, at the shooting location, i dont have a partner with me that time + i am not an appointed photographer for that cos event. so i it would be better to shoot and go after done. tongue.gif

A7, A7R, A7s and A7sII suffer from CDAF AF speed.

A7II, A7RII, A6000, A6300 has advantage of speed from the PDAF.

slow as turtle? no,
slower then marketed A6000/A7RII? yea...

the only issue with this lens (reason its dirt cheap) is its lack of OSS.

Not really. If got evf and using your forehead as third support, you can get as low as 1/50s even on apsc. Just maybe not for run and gun scenario.

I see, I see. Butt itchy, probably want to get a cheap lens to play around... Helios look decent, I think, for that price range. I was told it used to be a lot cheaper than that.

Domo-kun stable hand is always welcome. but stable posture is even better~ 50mm can go as low as 1/15 handheld with good posture. with OIS/IBIS it can go as low as 0.5s...

good posture including how you hold the camera and lens, your body leaning or squad, or with your arm leaning on table or wall.

As much as i would like to take ieR's advice. 1/15s is definitely possible with good posture and ois but do keep in mind the chances of getting more blurry shots are much higher so normally i would go against that advice. Otherwise you go back home with more blurry shots than necessary which could have been saved. That said, stick with shutter speed equal focal length rule with high iso and use the low shutter speed sparingly.

0.5s handheld is a bit of a stretch even with ois. Do bear in mind, shock caused by mirror slap and shutter curtain cause a bit of vibration as well.

It just means its doable, doesn't mean its encouraged. It's good to be able to do it in a pinch. I've plenty of half second shots during my travels, with no tripod to use etc. It all boils down to how well the user know his own limitation.

nice! i like the colour. not too saturated, and purple fringing/chromatic aberration is an issue of the lens.

Dont think it is lens issue, more on the body. Thats why a lot of videographer prefer manual focus regardless of camera model. Some of scene with people passing and blocking the view, you should have used manual focus. If peaking is unusable, use manual asist (magnify).

doh.gif daddyO we just discussing posibility and differences in shooting at low shutter... not comparing or competing in who shoot better in low shutter. but then, there is a lot issue to be consider also, shooting a static subject like landscape wouldnt be a dealbreaker, but if like shooting moving subject, imagine shooting a stage event at 1/15, even your hand doesnt shake, subject will be in motion blur.... its how your practice it... but if the stage made you shoot at 1/15, we know the stage is underlit, so its easily compensate by using flash and freeze the movement.

then saying mirror slap or shutter vibration. make me think are you a sony shooter or a canikon anti-sony shooter. sony A mount left slapping mirror tech in 2011, when they first introduce SLT(fixed mirror, then in 2012 introduce the eletronic first curtain(2nd gen mirrorless onwards). since then, there is no such thing as mirror slap or shutter vibration like other dslr systems. doh.gif

Eccentrical, kyLL: i dont think is lens issue (or strictly body), no matter what lens you are on, how professional kit you have, you will still face color distortion issue(maybe a good lens will minimize it, but not eliminate it), hence why ppl shot in slog or flatDR setting, and do postprocessing(color grading) to reduce or eliminate the CA.

for the AF use, maybe you can set 'selective af spot' and select where you wan your focus to stay on. but do mind you, any camera, when used in low light (example bon odori event) will suffer from AF... maybe expect A7s rclxs0.gif ... hence its very normal for it to go hunting in mid recording.

manual focus of e mount is using fly by wire focus mechanism, which is good for beginner video usage, but professional video groupie hates it(lack of direct feel and control) unlike direct geared manual focus where the focus transition rely on your hand/skill(jerky harsh focus or gentle focus transition).. fly by wire focus has a delay and very gentle transition, but you are not in control of it, hence some (a lot) people shooting video with Emount Native lens suffer from the focus delay and usually end up turning the focus ring harder and faster causing missing the target/mark.

.....................compare what to shoot what in low what now? Dude, you don't need to dig too deep into what I said. I didn't say you are wrong. And if you can get a clean shot at 0.5s shutter handheld, good for you.

And thanks about the electronic curtain thing, something to learn about. Though that said, still hearing people complaining about the vibration shock when taking slow shutter shots. Not sure because they using old models or just doesn't exist in the camera they used. If so, my point still stands.

"make me think are you a sony shooter or a canikon anti-sony shooter." ..........is this a trick question?

Browsed youtube for a few enlightenment, TIL manual focusing on some lenses doesn't work like the regular focus ring on DSLRs lenses(focus distance changes accordingly to focus rotation degree)

I uses various sigma lenses and guess it implements the same system; rotate fast to change distance by a large margin, and rotate slow for fine tuning. sweat.gif

Quick question; if I'm mounting a Helios 44-2 M39 on NEX 6, what adapter do I choose to setup the lens? unsure.gif

You need a M39-M42 thread adapter - it adds no spacing, it just screws over the M39 thread and presents a M42 thread instead - then use a normal M42-NEX adapter.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that will means that I need 2 adapters? One M42 adapter on NEX. Then, another M39-M42 adapter to the M42 adapter. And after that, the M39 lens on the M39-M42 adapter. Yeah?

Browsed youtube for a few enlightenment, TIL manual focusing on some lenses doesn't work like the regular focus ring on DSLRs lenses(focus distance changes accordingly to focus rotation degree)

I uses various sigma lenses and guess it implements the same system; rotate fast to change distance by a large margin, and rotate slow for fine tuning.  sweat.gif

Zz. this video is crap. I saw it the other day. he got a lemon. No one else has this problem.. Yet he persists in his claim the lens has this issue and sigma isn't fixing it..

Speaking of startup time, I noticed that sometimes, after some time of not using the camera, it tends to have hiccups starting up. Say for example, I can switch it on, but it'll be delayed a bit. Then, when I shut it off, it'll take a long time to shutdown and usually with a sound of a shot taken before it goes off. Why ahh? Anyone experienced before? sweat.gif

I noticed that it only happen if I don't use the camera for a period of time. So, probably because it was left in hibernation mode for too long? unsure.gif

few hiccup startup issue.

1. turning off and on, there is a small delay for the cleaning mode to kick in on the older model at first ON. but for the later model the cleaning mode happens during switching Off. so if u do a quick Off-On, then the 2nd On will have the start up hiccup due to the cleaning mode during turning off.

2. sleep wake up hiccup, errr i dont have this problem. but if you did swap a memory card before the sleep wake, read #3. similar issue.

3. battery swap start up hiccup, the WORST when u have large card with lots of picture... because battery swap startup requires the camera to read the card, so it has to read the card information all over again and check the amount of picture and calculating the space left and predict the number of shot can be taken. (go give it a try)

What's your current set up with the Nikon.

Given my love for primes, I'd say Fe 50mm 1.8 and 28mm 2.0 you be great. Price wise, would exceed you budget by about 300 - 400 ringgit for both lens combined. Else I think you may fare better having the kit lens plus either 50mm or 28mm. Should be just slightly or on your budget.

Maybe other sifus may have a different opinion.

Currently me gear was D610, 28-300mm nikkor, 50mm & sb700.

I prefer to buy a7II pair with all rounder lens. Prefer zoom lens.

Don't think there's any zoom lens that can replace your current gear and doesn't burst your budget spectacularly. So think you are better off getting the kit lens (secondary market bout 900 or buy it with your camera is 1k extra) but it's only at 28-70mm.

As regards the battery level reduction even when u didnt use it. There are videos on youtube explaining why. 1) turn on the airplane mode and 2) switch from Auto to viewfinder or monitor before u turn off the a6k. I am not sure which is the prime cause of the battery usage even when a6k is off, but I find that it works by following the 2 suggestion.

I think there might not be a single lens that cover the same range as what nikon is offering you at 28-300mm in Sony full frame emount system. The only lens i can think of is sony E 18-200mm which is a lens for apsc sensor.

I got my Sony 18105g F4 lens on lazada from the seller name Kengdim. He listed it for RM1930 and I request him to ask the 10% bankcard discount from lazada to be placed on that lens, which he did. So I paid RM 1737 for the lens. I dont think it is the cheapest price, but I am yet to find a cheaper offer.

P/s: if you want to contact him via whatsapp, u can search his phone number on his website, www.kengdim.com.

If you dont mind the kit lens, sony fe 28 70 is within your budget( less than 2000). A friend of mine own this, he said the quality of this lens can be very good provided you have good lighting.(He usually shoot indoor with flash).

Range like kit lens shud be suffcient. But other than kit lens, any other option?
Prefer lightweight dslr.

The sound is camera cleaning sound la. Long startup I no idea hah

QUOTE(edpaul @ Jul 29 2016, 07:13 PM)
few hiccup startup issue.

1. turning off and on, there is a small delay for the cleaning mode to kick in on the older model at first ON. but for the later model the cleaning mode happens during switching Off. so if u do a quick Off-On, then the 2nd On will have the start up hiccup due to the cleaning mode during turning off.

2. sleep wake up hiccup, errr i dont have this problem. but if you did swap a memory card before the sleep wake, read #3. similar issue.

3. battery swap start up hiccup, the WORST when u have large card with lots of picture... because battery swap startup requires the camera to read the card, so it has to read the card information all over again and check the amount of picture and calculating the space left and predict the number of shot can be taken. (go give it a try)
*
Thats something new!! Never really know battery swap isn't just battery swap!

Make sure you are on Auto Focus mode.

For manual focus, zoom is activated from the zoom lever bottom left of the lens. The ring now serves as focus ring instead of zoom ring.

That ring is not a zoom ring my dear friend... Its an AF ring. The zoom is the slider switch at the side. AF can only be accessed if you set AF mode to either DMF or MF ONLY.

On a side note, if i recall correctly, there's an option to change the ring function to be zoom. Not too sure though, don't have mine with me already.

It behaves as zoom ring in AF mode and focus ring in MF mode. Just tried on mine.

its not a zoom ring, its a Focus ring, for use during MF and DMF.

if i recall correctly its under customize (the gear logo, 2nd menu), 2nd submenu or 3rd, look for "zoom setting/zoom ring rotate". opps i got confused with my rx100. its somewhere there... also its only zoomable when its in AF mode, no DMF, not MF.

In order to use the Zoom/Focus Ring (indicated by your red arrow), as a Zoom ring, your camera must be set to Auto Focus. If its set to Manual Focus, this ring is use for manual focusing when you turn it. Also make sure its not in DMF mode in Focus setting

But you can also use the Zoom slide (just next to the Zoom ring) to zoom. It doesnt matter if your camera is set to Auto or Manual Focus when using the slide. The zoom slide has "Power Zoom W-----T" printed above it.

The 20 2.8 is sharper and have less distortion than the 16 2.8. But still have some softness and distortion la. Probably, you'd need to go down to f4 for better sharpness and less distortion... If you're concerned on sharpness and distortion, then probably the sigma 19 2.8 may be a better choice for you... Just maybe, coz have not used the sigma before but heard good stuffs bout it.

2 cents...

Does anyone here have any recommended camera stores that will allow me to:

1) Test out the A7 Mark II with lenses such as the 24-70 f/4, 16-35 f/4, etc
2) Trade in my existing Canon gear

And offer good prices for items 1 & 2

Thanks in advance for your suggestions. blush.gif notworthy.gif

Yes, that's what I read from online review too. Hopefully someone in this forum can give me some idea. I thought about sigma 19mm, but the size is big. I can leave with little distortion if there is. Currently the 16mm, after the in camera adjustment, JPEG straight from camera is acceptable and usable. Since I normally shoot landscape and street, barely can notice the distortion.

Thank you.

For 1) your best bet would be Sony store at the Curve or KLCC. They have all the lens and camera for you to walk about around the store without wires limiting movements. But they do have tagging systems to prevent theft la. I find the Curve is the best place to test. For 2) you would have to ask other ppl. I heard kldslr would take in.

The sigma 19 is not a lot bigger than the 20 la... Probably slightly smaller than the Sony 35 1.8. But if you're set on 20, it is a pretty versatile lens.

Nikkor 85 1.8D got quite strong CA when wide open, applied basic LR fix and lazy to move into PS.
And out of focus yes, happens sometime when focus center and recompose.

Instead of centre focus and recompose with focus lock, can you try "Continuos Focus" on sony a6000, focus them in the centre and then recompose? When you recompose with CA the focusing square should still lock/track them and same time readjust focus continuosly. Let me know the result cause im curious of the result.

It was manual focus, adapted Nikon lens. I have yet to get the AF-capable adapter.
It is possible keep re-compose first then move the magnifier window to point of interest to focus, the trade off is it will be slower flow-breaking (at least to me).

Then perhaps u should try moving ur body parallel with the focus plane after locking focus rather than just moving on pivot. Then again 85mm 1.8 still pretty tough to get focus right.

ahh.. that makes sense.. yeah. then in that case its gonna be REALLY tough to nail the focus.. sounds like you need the GMASTER 85MM. lol.

I personally owned Sony FE 28 F2 lens, for me the outcome is sharp and fast focusing speed. The only problem is the distortion which adjustable at post processing using lightroom.

I'm letting go this lens because under utilizing, let me know if you are interested. Lens old is about two months with warranty, receipt and box as well. TQ rclxms.gif

Hi sifus,

I'm currently using Nex-3N with the kit lens, which I use mostly on travel trips and on occasional events.
I'm considering 2 options now:

1. Stick to my current model and add different lenses, eg portrait lens, prime lens.
2. Upgrade to A6000 (seems like there's quite a lot of promo nowadays), but stick with kit lens. Actually quite attracted to some of the better features of the A6000, like more focus points, faster focus, Wifi, remote control via phone.

Hope to get some feedback. Thanks biggrin.gif

No prob going either 1 or 2. The larger autofocus coverage, evf, and more buttons itself is worth the body upgrade. But likely u wont see img improvement unless u go number 1.

Yay. Just got a Helios 44M 58mm. I've never use a 58mm before, it feels kinda weird. Especially a fully manual lens like Helios, I find it difficult to focus, unlike Samyang, which was a lot easier. Plus, focus peaking via viewfinder don't seem to show too much comparing with looking on the LCD panel. Why ahh?

*
do u need more mega pixels? nex-3 16mp a6000 24mp, juz a tiny upgrade. if yes > A6000
do you selfie? if yes > Nex-3N coz A6000 cannot flip screen to 180'
do you need viewfinder? or u can get a 2nd hand used viewfinder? if yes > A6000
do you need wifi? if yes > A6000 (for me i will post process before i upload, so wifi is not a must)
do you need remote control? timmer not good for u? if yes > A6000

i saw ppl selling A6000 body around 1.7-1.8k
the money that you save up can get u a sony 50mm f1.8, for cheaper price can get a sigma 30mm f2.8, sigma 60mm f2.8 or latest model sigma 30mm f1.4.

if i am u, i will invest on the lens, because the new camera model come out every year. unless u plan to upgrade to FF in the future, then no point to get apsc lens.

juz my personal opinion biggrin.gif

I don't mind paying, but how long will it takes? 1 week? 2 weeks? 1 month? Or a few months. That's the problem.

Anyone using monopod? Any suggestion?

Another quite silly question; if the diameter of the lens is 52mm, that means I'll need a 52mm lens cap for the lens, yeah? sweat.gif

Filter thread diameter. It's usually written in front of the lens.

Buy a tripod which also can turn into monopod one. Which means one of the leg of the tripod can be detached from the body and used as monopod. You buy one tripod and can use as monopod. Dont have to buy 2 separately. Normally I shoot sports using monopod. All others, tripod.

Thank you.

Ummm... It's a Helios 44M-4 2/58 and as I measured the diameter, it's only about 52mm
It doesn't say anything else, other than that, LOL!

I have a tripod already, but it's not fairly portable and can be a of a hassle, I think. So I'm looking out on monopod, instead. Maybe about RM200 range? Lots of Manfrotto, but hmm...

I'm using Beiki brnad tripod where by one of the leg can be detached. If not mistaken it cost less than RM300 or less than RM250, really forget about the exact amount. The tripod is sturdy and steady. If you wish to just carry out a monopod, you may just detach the leg and carry the only monopod.

If the tripod you are using is a decent one then maybe you can just buy another monopod. I guess a decent one should cost around RM150 right?

Thank you.

Mine is not like this. But I guess this is the latest design. It can be folded to such a compact size!! But same function. Anyway, I'll go for it if I don't have already had a tripod.

Thank you.

Hi sir,
Possible can get a 2nd hand unit of your tripod stand? It seems rare to be found.

Btw I'm having difficulty with the default lens given by a7. Which wide lens is better?

I'm not too fussy. You are better off reading some reviews from pros than from me 😅

I have 55mm but I hardly use it. The 28 is wide enough but not too wide. 50 is too far for food photography

Go search my Seoul thread in K got samples

ya...i read
most reviews sided the 28mm
but would get 35mm if not for the price
for price for quality, 28mm still wins...thx
looks like fixed focal length has its limitation but those 24-70 f4 or 16-70 very expensive

i might get the 2470z despite the many negative reviews. its easier to use as a travel lens than taking a few primes and change in the field. too troublesome

I have no idea where can get a used unit of my tripod. I bought years ago, still solid and sturdy! People bought this should be able to use for ages due to the quality. Unless they wanted to go for carbon fiber tripod.

For the ff lens, I have no experience on this. Perhaps other members may help up on this.

Thank you.

The thing with this tripod turning into a monopod, it means that have to be carrying 2 batang around, and fix them together the time I wanted to use them. Unlike others, which is only 1 batang. Haha.

I recently just bought a CF tripod, Jusino directly from their china taobao site. Shashinki is their official distributor in malaysia and has limited models. I only paid for RM600+ which is inclusive of delivery and custom color + engraving. It is lightweight, can be folded into about 132cm, so much smaller compared to my previous velbon tripod. I got to put it into an event shoot and find it to be sturdy enough. Highly recommended if you're not aiming to go for branded like manfrotto/gitzo

But I watched the YouTube last night, you'll need the batang in the middle and the batang of the kaki, fix both together to make it one monopod. No? That was why I said 2 batang, LOL.
