35mm F1.8 is ~ 50mm FF equivalent. Quite a popular focal length but it's like the 2x lens in phones (2x normally 50mm, 1x normally 24-26mm).

On APSC, if you want something similar to 1x on your phone, you need to get lens of 16-18mm (24-27mm).

yeap. was trying to do boudoir portraits on my waifu with a single ikea orange table lamp, it is very bright for eyes and has a good lighting from a single side source, but sadly the 50mm just keep hunting even with eye AF on.
trying to keep the iso at below 3200 and only way to get focus on the subject is brighter lighting condition or higher iso. not what i expect but most of the forumer here is correct bout the 50mm focus hunting. sad.gif

mcm la my waifu face not big enough to be focus on doh.gif

just traded in my almost 4 years old 16-35mm F4 and 50mm F1.8 to Altech Camera for RM2k and RM350

then bought a second hand 24-105 F4 for 1.6k (selling for 3980), still with official warranty left until Nov this year
probably time to upgrade body when A7IV is out tongue.gif dont think my old first gen A7 is doing the glass justice

Im confused want to buy sigma 30mm f2.8 or 50mm 1.8
*
I had a sigma 30mm f2.8.
Pros: Sharp, Fast Aperture, Small
Cons: No OSS stabilization, Not working with whole screen PDAF.

I use it for times where I need autofocus, and faster lens. 30mm to me is very nice focal length in the middle.

I have 2 other lenses, the Nikkor 50mm f1.4(I use it for bokehlicious and really low light, BUT damn that manual focus..... not good at that)
, the Zeiss 16-70 f4(all round walking lens)

Just bought 2nd hand a6000 with kit lens. New to photography. What lens alternative should I look for?

Eyeing Sigma 16mm...good for beginner?
*
Suggest playing with kit lens first to build up skill. (I'm a beginner as well..)

then look through to see hope photos do you use the wide angle or narrow angles more.

you'll know your next lens then.

I started with the kit lens, the got a used cheap nikon 50mm f1.4 manual focus to try. end up feeling extremely cramped. moved to a sigma 30mm f2.8. it's my default prime lens now.

move around more(reposition yourself). failing that, ask yourself is it what you want to do require wider focal length or is it more of lazy to reposition. you'll know your answer.

when I was a fresh beginner(am still now... just snapping for 2 years), I kept standing at one spot not moving. even my 30mm sigma felt cramped. once I started moving and actively finding spots and angles, everything is better.
