Hope to get some advice from the sifus here smile.gif

I'm shooting with the A6000, Sigma 16/1.4, and 30/1.4 now so naturally, I want to get the Sigma 56/1.4 next for portraits.

But I'm starting to take more videos and prime lenses feel too inconvenient, and it doesn't help that the A6000 has no IBIS. So I'm thinking about maybe getting the 18-105/4 OSS instead. Do you think this lens at 105mm at f4 can produce a portrait bokeh comparable to 56mm at f1.4? No need to worry about low light.

As for mic, any thoughts on the Sony ECMXYST1M?

You can also give Sony's 50mm f1.8 a go. It has OSS biggrin.gif

True but most shots will be in the 16-30mm range hehe. Having both the E50/1.8 and 18-105 would be great but $$$

this guy use a6000 and 18-105f4 for most of his video and the results are outstanding.

if you want more bokeh, the tamron 28-75mm 2.8 is good too, but no OSS as your a6k lacks IBIS. best is save up and buy gimbal and buy sigma 56mm 1.4 or sony 85mm 1.8 for bokeh

user posted image

top is 56mm 1.4, bottom is 105mm at f4, adjusted to similar framing you can see the 56mm 1.4 produce better-looking bokeh

Wow that website is very helpful! Thanks for sharing. Looks like 105/f4 won't be able to match the 56/1.4 after all sweat.gif

Yup the Tamron 28-75 is not wide enough & no OSS either.

Hi guys, i got the 16-35mm for landscape shot. I am looking for another lens for portrait mode as well with some good bokeh. Which one would you recommend for travelling? Is the 50mm f1.8 OSS good? I am thinking that it might be too close to my 16-35mm? Or should i get the 85mm instead?

That's not a full frame lens. Get FE 50mm f1.8 instead.

85mm is a bit tight for travelling for me, I would rather have 50-55mm range. That's my preferences lah.

for travelling, i'd suggest a zoom lens.
best all in one is the 24-240mm
best zoom quality & maintain focal range, 24-105
best budget ,size, quality, f2.8 bokeh2 = tamron 28-75 f2.8
got $$ , 24-70 GM
out of the box thinking, buy small point & shoot like rx100 v or vi pair nicely with ur UWA lens laugh.gif

*tho a friend of mine bought Huawei mate 20 pro, and left his gear at home when travel (has ultra wide & wide angle lens on a phone)

if planning to get prime
get the focal length u are most familiar / mostfavourable / most used
16-35mm & 85mm is a good pair tho (for me biggrin.gif )

Yeah I would go for 85mm for the same reason... 50mm is probably too close to 35mm

IMO, the A6400 is worth the difference over A6300 smile.gif

A7III is generally the best choice if you don't mind the price, weight, and size. Don't forget FF lenses are more expensive, heavier, and larger than APS-C lenses too.

I need a lightweight camera, don't want to carry heavy item during the travel. Overall the quality of the photo on A6400 or A6500 are same as A7III (not in professional)?

Even A6000 does great job on taking both photo and video till today. So yes for travel any a6xxx will do. biggrin.gif

Large sensor still performs better. If you don't pixel peep and heavy post-processing, crop frame with prime will be as good. smile.gif

E 50 OSS is a crop frame lens, at the similar price point there is FE 50, but the autofocus is crap. Image quality wise, it is tack sharp when stopped down to f2.8.

Go for FE 55 ZA or the gigantic Sigma 50 Art. smile.gif Both are great wide open.

Any good lenses recommend? I saw there is a lot but don't know how to differentiate their advantage.

Just shoot with the kit lens first, then you will know what focal length you use frequently. Get the prime of that focal length later.
