Guys, what about if I buy the Meike 35mm 1.7f manual focus just to get the 'feel' of the larger aperture lenses. Currently selling at RM289 @ Lazada.

Or just jump straight to Sony 35mm 1.8f or Sigma 30mm 1.4f?

Do you buy it when the warranty is still available? What do you think about buying items without warranty?

To be honest, I'm the guy that prefer to buy almost all items brand new and have warranty. But, I've never actually used any of the items' warranty since I always take good care of it. but you know, I'm always on the safe side.  tongue.gif

Though, it seems worth it to buy the used items for price difference. Hm hm.

You can always send it in for servicing even if it's not broken. Included under the warranty.

I used to have the same thinking pattern, but I am glad that i went with the sigma instead. The reason is simple. A 30/35mm ( Both are around 50mm FF equivalent) is a focal length for general purpose usage. You might want AF for this reason. I think MF is fine with highly specialized purposes such as macro, astro, landscspe, cityscape and building interior photography. That's just my opinion, other might have different opinion though... hmm.gif

I agree with this myself. General purpose lenses without AF usually just means that you miss (and misfocus) more shots due to the time lost focusing. Sure, there was an age where everybody did fine with "just" MF, but back then we had split focusing screens and ground glass and those were A HELLUVA LOT faster to work with for MF than even focus peaking.

For less "time-sensitive" purposes MF is fine. Myself I do okay with my Samyang 12 - especially considering UWAs are a lot easier to focus anyway.

Finally, saving up for a single (or double) shot purchase is often of better value than slow gradual upgrades IMHO, even when we take reselling into account.

But yeah, horses for courses, as always.

Playing with all the camera and lenses on display in Sony KLCC today, I must say, the one that really feels like a supercar performance, is the a99ii, pairing with the 70200 2.8, what a combo! Instance focus with great colours and 2.8 on 70200 is more useful than I would have thought!

If I'm going pro, I'd go for that combo no question asked. The price is actually very reasonable consider that you get very similar pricing compared to the a7rii, and you're getting performance that's very close to the a9.

They have no 70200 2.8 GM on demo, it'll be my next lens cause I tested all those 85 1.4 GM/1.8FE and stuffs for portraits, they're gorgeous, but none actually render that superb compression of the 70200 on the a99ii. There's something about the extra long focal length compression, and versatility for portraits throughout the range. The only bad thing about it is the.price and size, of course.

Must resist, must resist...

i bought it.. same thinking.. to get feel of large aperture. with that price, i thought what the heck just buy it. it's fun & actually quite useful & not so difficult to take photos of non-moving objects when combine with focus peaking feature on the sony.
