Q2 start for UMW Naga 7 with Petronas Carigali
MALAYSIA: Jackup UMW Naga 7 is expected to commence its new contract with Petronas Carigali in early second quarter 2017.
In early January 2017, UMW Oil & Gas received a Letter of Award from Petronas Carigali for a 6 months firm plus 12 months options contract. Petronas Carigali currently has jackups Perisai Pacific 101 and UMW Naga 6 on charter, until third quarter 2017 and third quarter 2018 respectively.
JX Nippon plans SK-10 drilling in 2018
MALAYSIA: JX Nippon Oil & Gas may have plans to drill in 2018 on Block SK-10 where a development drilling campaign on the Layang gas field via tender-assist-rig (TAR) SKD Berani has been underway since July 2016.
At this time, the programme is still in the planning stage, and the operator is not able to provide details including well types, rig specifications or scope of work for the proposed drilling operation in 2018. Nippon also operates Block R where it is tendering for a deepwater floater for work starting later this year. Meanwhile, the operator anticipates wrapping up current drilling on Layang in February. SKD Berani will then be released. The rig has no follow-on charter and is being actively marketed for work in Southeast Asia and beyond.

Anyone know why Rapid project packages have to be done by foreign firms instead of Malaysian firms?

Hi there...just wanna ask...hows the oil and gas job market now? Now it seems all quiet oni conpared to last time whr industry is declining in news...

Sometimes I really wonder if I should just quit.

I am still working offshore on a pretty regular basis as compared to my colleagues, considered as one of the lucky ones. Huge paycheck cut is confirmed and will be executed pretty soon. Some of my friends are telling me ''dude at least you are not retrenched, be grateful'' but a lot of things just does not feel the same anymore.

When I first joined the oil and gas industry after graduating few years back, I was so motivated. This is the industry I want to be in, work hard, do not complain, keep learning, you are on the right track, stomach it and there will be good career development waiting for you ahead, you will get to rise to the top, those are the things I kept telling myself.

Few years down the road, my belief has been shaken. I have seen so many people got retrenched, sold their houses, cars, bikes, divorced, family broke down etc etc. How long is it gonna take for things to recover? Or will things remain as they are forever? Is this the end of oil and gas? Is this a sunset industry? At the current pace of technological advancement, and Tesla innovations do we need oil and gas still? If they keep cutting my salary is it still worthwhile spending my time away from family for the sake of making a living? Will I be the next one to go? If no, how will things turn out in the next 10 years? Will I lose my job when I have kids to raise in my mid 30s? What can I do then? Should I start afresh somewhere else? What can I do now? If I were to restart my career in other places, what if I realize it is not the right one for me again and lose another few more years? There are countless and countless of questions I am asking myself everyday. And I do not have the answers.

I am so confused and lost. Appreciate if anyone could shed some light.

mentally its not easy, but within a short time you will master the work. We come from a fast pace, fast learning and high competitive industry. Should be quick to assimilate to the new industry.
