Hi abang abang taiko, i have a situation. I graduated on dec 2014. work about 1 year and recently got retrenched (May). after a month of searching for a job and went for several interviews, i finally secured a job but not as engineer but as process admin.

tomorrow i have been scheduled to come to the office and sign the offer letter (work start on 1st august). but the problem is, in between i went for a another interview (shell SBOKL). and the result would prolly be out around next week. should i come to office and be honest about my situation? or should i just say something else

Since you haven't got confirmation from Shell, don't spill the beans yet. Once Shell confirms only then resign. Anyway probation period can resign easily.

Procurement is good-  it will help you back once you are an engineer..Trust me.

Actually I always wondered what skills/development does a procurement role give?

[WTA] Freshie. Mech Eng. Interest in OnG.
Should I take up a 1 year contract at a totally different industry and keep applying while working? or reject and only focus on OnG.

Work first other industry and keep applying. At least got monthly income. O&G very slow now so don't expect to get fast response. Maybe need to wait a year.

Later kena boo lol. If you are in US confirm get ugly stares. Deep Water Horizon is not something to celebrate about in O&G history. All the mistakes could have been avoided.

Good luck! Heard Exxon Procurement dah lay off a lot of contract procurement staff and few permanent staff kena also. Now hiring back, lower rates maybe?

Hi all sifus. Need some advice from you all.

I completed Master program in Drilling Engineering last year under scholarship from one of the operator company. Their plan was to absorb me into drilling department when I completed my master.

However due to the current situation, they released me from their bond and advised me to look for another job. Currently I work as service engineer for a company in KSB focusing on heat exchanger. I intend to go back into drilling world when there are opportunities arise.

Any advice or useful tips? Appreciate that from all sifus.

Thanks.

At least 2 to 3 years for drilling to pick up again. Try Petrofac as they currently have a drilling campaign in plan near term
