Samsung Malaysia Electronics (SME) has unveiled Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro (2016) -- the newest edition of the 2016 Galaxy A Series, with a bigger screen, larger battery capacity, greater storage and better camera.

Available in black, white and gold colour options, the smartphone will be officially available today at a recommended retail price of RM1,999, inclusive of six per cent Goods and Services Tax, the company said in a statement today.

Information Technology and Mobile Business Unit Vice-President, Lee Jui Siang, said the new smartphone comes with a sharp and immersive six-inch full high-definition super active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display with narrow bezel, which could offer better content usage and great viewing experience.

On storage space, Lee said the device not only has a 32GB of built-in memory, but is also integrated with a micro secure digital (SD) slot that can add up to a staggering 256GB of external memory.

QUOTE(Guardia @ Jul 22 2016, 06:52 PM)
I am still adoring the phone. Maybe because I'm still using note 2. Here's my pro and cons for now, mind u this phone is for my mom hence no real test yet. I'm a heavy phone user. I do it all on my phone. Graphics, business, accounts, excel sheets, customer databases u name it. My note 2 cant keep up anymore.

Pros
- 6 inch madness ! Once u go big u wont go small. I was among the earliest Note 1 user. Long live phablets !

- RAM is a plenty. Will solve all my ram hungry graphic intensive app. I made banners, flyers, fb ads images etc so 2GB does reach its limit when u are designing big images / banners.

- Premium feels. Nothing beats having a comfortable grip of you good looking phone. I bought the black one and it felt exclusive. I peeled off the 25 bucks ugly tempered glass (thank you expensive directd) and it is more handsome like that. Hope my mom wont drop it. And the black glass at the back. Hmmm... Love those glasses. Fingerprint magnet alert.

- Speaker kind of ok. A bit better than my note 2.

- Camera is ok too. Got the firmware update just now and it looks ok on the gorgeous screen.

- Screen. Might be in the same category of the 6 inch point but it deserve a new one. It is simply gorgeous!  And it is kinda curved a bit at the edge. I believe samsung made all their new phone like this. But on a 6 incher? It looks wayyyy better.

- Battery. I didnt stress test it yet. But I hope the huge 5000 mAh battery will do its job. I mean 5000 man. That's like carrying a powerbank with u.

- Software. What's to hate? A polished latest version of android. Although the processor is not as good as note 5 and S7, it is still marshmellowy smooth. And maybe I'm new to this but the theme really change everything. Not just ur usual wallpapers and icons but also the color theme of the OS and even the keyboard. A little info though, u wont find video and music player the first time u switch the phone on. U can get it on samsung galaxy apps. It is free. So dont worry about that. There's a couple more galaxy apps u can download too there.

cons
- Quite heavy but still ok. Coming from a phablet user this wont be a problem. There's a trick to comfortably operating big phones with one hand. Always put ur pinky finger at the bottom of the phone as a holder. Bend it a bit and adjust ur palm and other fingers to support it. And ur thumb is free to do all what it want to do. I have fat fingers though, ppl with normal fingers will find it easier to use this method.

- Screen resolution
A big screen need bigger resolution. True in some cases but not necessarily a bad thing in other. My mom will find it comfortable to play with the phone. I am too but deep down in me i wish it can be sharper or the icons can be smaller. Dont ask me to use a launcher for it as i hate launchers. Maybe not the light ones that does the most important jobs.

Other than those, i dont find any reason to not encouraging ppl to buy this phone. It is a great phone for the price range. Although this is not in S and Note line, it is still a great phone by samsung.

Hope the community grows so I can find the damn casing easier ! LOL..

PRO'S
- nice design and looks premium like I'm using flagship phone sometimes it looks like Note 5

- Free 64GB of class 10 memory card (Only for Malaysian promotion) that's cool for me

- Can read double nano sim card and memory card at the same time so there's no hybrid sim card issue anymore..

- Can read OTG cable and also can support to read EXT HDD for 2TB!! the first time reading it run slowly but after detected the ext hdd, can run and play a video from Ext HDD smoothly

- Nice speaker sound output and input

- Fast performance when downloading and uploading any files.. can withstand Note 5 and S6 Edge+

- Nice battery performance : can sustained 1 day with heavy internet surfing, heavy downloading full HD movies & uploading, heavy high graphic gaming, transfer big large of files from EXT HDD, play youtube videos, play full hd movies.

- Rear camera looks good but cannot beat Note 5 and S6 Edge+

Cons
- Quiet heavy

- Heating issue.. when turning off the power saving, and downloading big large of files, can feels the heat. heating temperature also can be feels when playing the heavy graphic games when not turn on power saving

- Front camera looks sluggish like cheap camera

- No 60 fps video recording (that's TOOOO BAD for me...)

- The camera looks terrible when comparing with Note 5, S6 Edge+ even it's built with 16MP rear cams and 8MP for front cams (I am Note 5 & S6 Edge+ user)

QUOTE(squareballs @ Jul 22 2016, 08:38 PM)
From morning 8am till now. 75 percent battery left.. with 2 hours of sot.

On 4g, with Clash royal and social media apps..

Had only about 10 minutes hands on testing this A9pro and seriously I felt Mate8 is a better choice in build quality, display, smoothness n app loading. The A9pro camera I feel isn't in the class of the S7e and isn't snappy vs Mate8
Quick impressions are often inaccurate but its high price turned me off.
Being a budget offering but because it is Samsung it carries a premium price of rm1999. If it is around rm1.5k I would like to test it out too.

Aiming for this phone long time ago... finally launch in Malaysia, waiting the black color...

I had considered Mate 8 vs A9Pro before, after compared with my needs A9Pro more suitable for me... I cannot tahan the Mate 8 screen with the thick black line surrounding, it is too over...

A9Pro have 2 main disadvantages - weight and camera...
Other than that, it is a good phone... So just see what your needs....

tested mate 8 on hands before, really like the design and build quality but never had a chance to test a9 pro. but the battery 5000mah on a9 pro is really tempting.

on my opinion if u like A9 design and the battery go for it. but in term of raw power....mate 8 is the winner here..kirin 950 is a high end proc..snapdragon 652 is way behind. heavy 3d game is playable in 652 but sometimes suffer some framerate drop. in terms of battery life..we dont know yet untill we tested the A9. but mate 8 is proven to last 7hours SOT..which is superb. and noted the larger the battery the longer it takes to charge. and galaxy A9 has advantage with fast charger because it can use other fast charger unlike huawei...its fast charging only works with its charger only.

Seems to be great phone. I love 6 inch screen phone. But the lacks of led notification seems to be really frustrating. Just wonder why they remove the led notification. I know theres apps life flash light notification but i think its annoying

A beautiful phone. Love the big screen and yet comfortable to hold. It's amazing how they make it easy it is to operate a 6inch phone.

Bought mine at directD subang jaya. Customer service sucks. I regret buying my phone there. Ofc their 1899 price was tempting. But the guy at the counter is not friendly at all. I'm buying a freaking almost RM2K phone and he gave me the look like I'm buying a 200 phone. In Malay we called it muka macam taik. There were no other customer there btw.

First he told me the promo for free 64gb sd was finished. Then I showed him the advert in mudah which was posted the day before with the promo. After went back and forth, his friend spoke to him in mandarin and he was like "u sure? U sure ah?". Maybe his friend told him they still have that stock.

He then go and take the phone. Came back in a rush, told me only have black and started to finish up the deal. Asked for 1899 immediately. I was thinking of getting the gold one for my mom. But he rushed me into agreeing with the black. Damn it. If only i knew samsung centre ia still selling the phone with the same free 64gb sd card promo, i would have bought at samsung even if it's 100 ringgit more. I dont mind paying extra 100 for a better customer service. Yes directd sold it 100 ringgit cheaper. But their customer service sucks and i wont ever go there to buy my phone ever again and i will not recommend my friends to buy there anymore. Heard directd PJ is better.

Nevertheless, Galaxy A9 Pro is a beast phone. 4gb of RAM, 6 inch screen. 5000 mAh battery, 32gb internal with 64gb free sd card. Android marshmallow somemore. Bought this phone for my mom, will buy another one for me next month if NOTE7 came out too expensive. Btw, the black one not too bad. But i'm sure a gold one will fit a 63 year old lady better.

Cheers.

Edit. One more thing. Where can i find a casing for this phone? Been looking everywhere for it. Any suggestion?

Seems like a lot of people complains about Direct D customer service. I guess the only thing pull people going there to buy will be the only 1 thing, a bit cheaper price. Actually looking for this phone until i pick it up and hold it. The feeling is too thick to my liking and the weight. I guess, that's the downside when you want a bigger battery.

Nah for you.
Found it on GSMARENA's comment about this phone.

My point of view
I have received a new update patch and still not test all of it.. This is my review before new update

After new update I noticed the camera perform more great than before update

Seems to be like firmware update fix the camera issue. But is it really heavy? I have big hands. Currently using mega 6.3 now the weight of the phone is 199g. When use bigger phone its hard to look back to small phone. Should go to samsung and try it by myself.

It seems heavier than your Mega 6.3. 210g.
But for me? Don't mind at all. The 5000 mAh is a killer.

Well for me RIP DirectD. Not in my priority list anymore since 2 years ago. They USED to be cheap. Then they got the attention they wanted. IMO, their vocabulary only have customer, not the word service.

Yaya, true true, I stopped buying from DirectD since they start operating at the new Megastore in PJ, becoz that was when i realized that their prices have gone up and no longer cheaper. But I still went to the PJ outlet just for cuci mata only (viewing the demo unit phones and the amois ... hehe)

Ahhhh... I came here first before buying the phone. None of these directd stuffs discussed here so I thought they still ok. Add it to their price is the cheapest in mudah. Other store need to be more tech savvy and use mudah more so they can reach out to customers like me lol.

Directd matters aside, I am still adoring the phone.

LOL..

Everything is good, except for the price. Most of the phone with SD 650+ is below RM1.2K,.I believe this applies to Samsung as well, considering the price gap between this and other Samsung flagship, Note series would be a better option.

At least it still far cheaper than what Sony put on it Sony Xperia X - RM 2,499.00 for S650 spec! Sony brain is dead and killing itself the mobile division.

Exactly, I dunno what Sony thinking, and Malaysia Sony not dare to bring in the Xperia X Performance. This middle range processor already selling RM 2,499.00, I wonder what price Sony gonna put for X Performance which running using S820 processor.

I guess Sony still thinks they're like a super premium company that based mostly on loyalty(like Apple), maybe they thought they could fool consumer by making them think the X series is more powerful flagship compared to Z series, but still a very illogical thinking imo.

I guess Sony still thinks they're like a super premium company that based mostly on loyalty(like Apple), maybe they thought they could fool consumer by making them think the X series is more powerful flagship compared to Z series, but still a very illogical thinking imo.
Maybe 6" display as well? The price RM1999 is near to SD820 phone tho
*
Last time possible can, now is internet world, everybody is easier to get review and know more spec than last time.

Sony in dream can fool people, maybe can for few that don't care much on spec but instead design and belove brand, but won't be huge success fooling around already.

It is middle range only. Already can win S808 and near identical to S810 which is consider madness. The S808 and S810 is not long ago high end processor.

I don't think it will be bad, nowadays camera all not bad.

I just really hope Note7 will be 6" and at least 4000mAh battery but it seems won't happen, it still is 5.7" and battery below 4000mAh. Haizz....

I think note series will be long2 ways to go to match galaxy A9 Pro battery life..reason why is note series come with quad hd display which is drain battery like mad. But too bad A9 pro does not come with led notification otherwise I already got one and trade in my n5..

Btw, A9 pro battery really terrific..I wish my n5 come with 5k..normal usage quite ok can tahan 1 day but if use gps really sucks..if u use gps a lot like me then a9 pro is really gooding 👍

In terms of power, SD650 is definitely not mid range, just the "6" series made it midrange and cheap. But if they make their "6" series too powerful, maybe in the future it'll make SD800++ looked pointless.

QHD never bad battery life in Note5 and S7 Edge to me. smile.gif

QHD or higher is future already and all manufacturer need move over it even it is not really useful as FHD actually enough but without move up, they can't differentiate middle range and high end already. Also can't fully utilize but waste current too powerful processor.

Qualcomm already did this. How powerful S65x series are, it is category under middle range. It price as middle range also.

Now all S8xx phone is pointless to get already except S820. The rest all useless to get unless the phone price similar as S65x series.

That means u are not become heavy user yet..note 5 and s7 edge only got good batterylife if include standby time. Thanks to doze now both note 5 and s7 edge battery life are extended.

But if u use continously and at the outdoor, then QHD display will drain battery like mad. My note 5 battery really go down fast during outdoor usage despite I only put 25% auto brightness. I read from reliable sources that qhd eat close to 2 times battery compared to full hd.

That is why apple still use full hd display for 6s plus eventough samsung already come out with 2k display 1 year before.

Not sure about note5, but for S7E, SOT able to contained 4-5hrs with 80% LTE. More on wifi around 7-8hrs. This was based on my current setup and apps (around 90apps). My dad's S7E with minimal apps able to get 1 more hour on top of mine.
For us, cconsidered good enough. Our main usage browsing, WhatsApp, light camera usage. That's all. Location and sync always on.
Anyway still wayyy far cry than this A9Pro. How I really this kind of battery in Samsung flagship.
For me, since start using QHD, and latest gen looks matured enough which able to produce good efficiency as FHD or perhaps better.

Seems like gonna stick with Note 5 for a while more bruh.. with the edge screen, there is chance that Note 7 will be at least same price as S7e or higher.. 6gb ram and ip68, slightly larger battery, but ultimately functions similar as Note 5, similar aesthetic design too; hmmm maybe am gonna pass.

In fact i'm dying for Note tablet to come back.. with a lot more cheaper alternative for premium smartphones nowadays, i would prefer a tablet Note, and grab other phone instead.. even on Note 5, its still quite cumbersome to write on.. screen estate plays important role for note taking.. i wished for at least 6 inch or larger note 7, but gone to the drain as it may seem

I can't remember on Note5 already as it is so long ago. For S7 Edge, the battery life is the best I ever get, it is similar timing I get in FHD only in P9 Plus. I always get around 5 to 6 hours with S7 Edge and no issue standby phone full day or even 1.5 day. This is really great and it is QHD.

P9 Plus I also get similar but it is running only FHD. FHD or QHD is not much differences in battery life especially the screen is AMOLED. For LCD, the QHD do is power hunger, my SOT and standby is not that good in LG G4 which is QHD LCD.

I don't play with brightness because my brightness always in auto mode and I mostly use it indoor. Why keep playing phone outdoor? It is not like Pokemon Go already come to Malaysia...

Now some new phone, I means at least for S7 Edge and P9 Plus which running Android 6.0 using a new way control the auto brightness and it run perfectly. No need change it and you even can see how it change as the brightness bar move.

The Mi Max also running Android 6.0 but it still using old method auto brightness.

4.2 hours of S.O.T with 56% left. Good enough for me. And it chargers quite fast too.

Really need a case for this phone. Orderred one from lelong.my dunno when it will arrive. This phone is big and slim. Need to be careful.

Another thing. An app called x-plore file manager is an awesome app to move ur data from phone to phone. It can an entire folder without restriction to another device via wifi server build it in the app. It is like using wifi-direct but with the ability to copy entire folder and choose the destination.

My first 2 days using the A9 Pro, I already managed to hit 13-14 hours SOT ( mix of WiFi and LTE)
This is the best SOT ever achieved amongst all my other phones , eg MI Max ( 11-12 hours), Mate 8 ( 10-11 hours), S7E ( 7-8 hours) etc
My usage is mainly on internet based stuffs 80% ( browsing, tweeter, facebook, youtubes, RSS, newsfeed )
The only thing which I do not quite like is the phone tends to overheat during installation of apps continuously. I could really feel the warmness in my palms. Other than this, using the phone as a daily workhorse, the temperature is still acceptable. I rate the Mate 8 as still the coolest phone with lowest operating temperatures followed closely by Mi Max
I got the phone ( 3 days old only) at RM1.6+k from a "dissatisfied user " who felt it was too big?? Personally my preferred size is 5.7- 6 inches and 5.5 inch is my minimum display size
Overall I am very happy with it - no serious issues encountered yet
Camera wise , the shots quality I feel is below S7e but is still acceptable to me. My demands on photo shots quality are not that high anyway
Phone UI is very slick and no lag faced. Anyway I had replaced it with my favorite Nova Launcher

It's not really that thick. Huawei decided to go for the bezel-less look when the screen is off. That's why the black bezel goes until the side. While Samsung usually have colored border along the side and minimal black bezel. IMO, Elephone S3 did the bezel-less thing right. It looks awesome.

I think it should be fine even if those idiots ban the game. If in the remote chance they manage to get it de-listed from the play store/app store, i doubt niantic will purposely block Malaysia from their servers.

Now if only they release it here. If only...

Doze is working well. Battery drain I estimate about 2% over last night 8 hours. I was watching videos for about under 2 hours before I went to sleep. Battery drain in that 2 hours less than 10%. 3g was on 24/7

Doze is working well. Battery drain I estimate about 2% over last night 8 hours. I was watching videos for about under 2 hours before I went to sleep. Battery drain in that 2 hours less than 10%. 3g was on 24/7

Amazing SOT :
The phone on standby for about 8 hours with about 2% battery drain

Btw... Is it confirm A9 doesn't have the LED notification.. "the blink2 near front camera"?

i not sure whether should i get it now or wait for note 7 as it will be launching next week august 2, currently using zenfone 2, but died. so relying on my note 2 currently, sluggish + battery drain, im in dilemma, not to sure the price will drop once note 7 launched, but the price at directd seems tempting.

New user here.
Main usage : games, gps, games, whatsupp, games, crome web browser, games...
Sot 20% left at midnight.

Performace wise... fast compare to s6 but i'm not doing graphic job. So no need a fast prosessor.

Cons: no case yet, no screen protectore yet, abit long, abit hot when continous downloading apps. Need a wireless charger

Planning on getting this.

For current users , would you recommend this?

Current phone: S4.

Main issue: Battery drains fast so thats why thinking of getting this 5k beast haha..

Drawbacks: No LED notification lights? No gyroscope?

Other options: Note 5 (Price can get around RM 1.9k at Lazada with discount code)

Thanks!

Hello guys, new Samsung A9 Pro user here biggrin.gif (previously from Zenfone 2)

One of my main concerns when choosing phone is that not many phone got dual sims + 1 dedicated MicroSD card slot. I like some of them but their hybrid sims turn me off.

So I just bought this phone instead from DirectD a week ago, and yea, this is the first time bought from there and this is also the last time, their customer service kinda unsatisfying.

Anyways, those drawbacks are not a big deal to me, what I like is its battery life, dual sims + 1 dedicated MicroSD card slot, good processor, and its premium build quality (it is pretty nice for me when i hold it, so it is a big plus). Another thing that I also like its fast connectivity, not like my previous Zenfone 2 (which connectivity is really frustrating), Samsung A9 Pro can connect any network faster without any hassle.

Until now I dont have any complain about it, I really like this phone. thumbup.gif

Yesterday I went to "molest" the demo unit at samsung store. first impression, so heavy! It's even heavier compared to my Note 5 with flip cover. It will be even much heavier if i put a cover on A9 Pro. I always feel my hand got tired whenever I carry My note 5 on hand around for more than 1~2 hours. The weight of A9 Pro will be a big issue for me. If not, I would have switched to this monster simply for the battery capacity.

Other than the weight issue, everything is quite solid.

The most funny thing was that the promoter at there claimed that A9 Pro is using the same spec & feature from Note 5. I LOL. Sure, the performance might be similar. But saying both of them are using the same spec is misleading lah~

What do u actually missed from 4.4.2 until 5.1 or 6.0? Not that much. All smartphones are fully functional without the latest updates on OS. U dont need to have the latest version of android though. If u do then u should've bought a nexus.

I don't quite like the supplied flipcase as it lacks the standing mode. It is just a simple flip to the side case

Yes. You are right. I have small hands. I always prefer large screen. Sadly, 5.5-5.7 inch size such as Note series is my limit. Beyond that size will be a burden to my hand. I always envy you guys who enjoy the >6 inch phones. cry.gif

My favorite size is 6 inches. My minimum size to consider using is 5.5 inch. I however do buy smaller sizes phonels eg recent HTC10, Blackberry Priv solely for testing only and not as a daily driver. I had sold the Priv after a month and pass down to my son the HTC10.
This A9pro have been meeting all my expectations . I much prefer using it over my now idle S7e. The main advantage of S7e is its nicer display, better camera and only slight slicker interface. However its overly compact size is something I don't quite like.
I don't game on my phones and so a SD652 chipset is more than good enough. Compared with my previous SD820 , 810 chipset phones I can positively say there is insignificant differences in my daily usage vs them.

Right before Note 7 launch. Got myself A9 Pro.

Now a proud owner of A9 Pro. rclxms.gif biggrin.gif

Manage to trade in my Note 3 for RM 550. The shop say Note 7 out sure value go lower. Good time to let go I guess.

Verdict so far

Charge full, unplug at 8 am. During the day mostly on WhatsApp, Web browsing, document edit/view MS Word/PDF, calls, emails, 1 hour of Google maps. Night time watch TV series 50 minutes and at midnight battery at 54%. Cool...

Didn't charge for the night (wanna test the battery). Continue next day with same usage. Around 5 pm battery 29% with warning came out. Great..no need to bring powerbank. Haha. straight charge at home.

At first feel so damn big, but after a day u will get use to it.

Things I miss

No LED notification. Note 3 had it. So, need to check the phone often if you silent your phone or miss something.

No Infrared. I used to control my home TV with Smart Peel. Now no IR, cannot make your device as remote control.

Still can live without it though.

Still can live without it though.

great feedback, by the way would you mind to share which shop would like to take up your note 3 for RM550? I would like to try my luck with my Note 2, as I have two of it and also a Zenfone2, would like to give up one of it.

I was shocked myself. I went to Samsung 1Utama, they don't accept trade in. Luckily, Publika accept.

Asked the Publika worker, she said the store have agent selling 2nd hand phones. That is actually a good strategy.

If im not mistaken for notification on A serires just go to setting and enable flash notification. It will show flash notification instead from ur camera flash. Just like an iphone style

And yeah no infrared for ir remote is too bad. I lost samsung tv remote then I use that for my tv quite often on my galaxy mega, save some money. Its very useful. Now theres no more ir blaster on new phones people should buy new remote then.

*
S7 edge spec quite tempting. Too bad the compact size. A9pro already good enough for people wants large battery and big screen. Other than that, it does the job. Got thumb scan also.
I think gaming depends on gpu chipset. A9pro using adrena 510 so i think its good enough already. Even the ram 4gb. Besides people end up to play game like COC which is not require high graphic. Or atleast higher graphic like nova or modern combat run smoother.

Hi. Thanks for the tips. But, afraid to tell you there is no such feature. In the Settings, only have notification for apps.

U need to use 3rd party app. For the flash notification, I downloaded Light Manager from Google Play. So good so far.

Me. Personally I don't believe in using any SP on my phones. Only harder stuffs than glass can cut/scratch it such as diamond or sand. The chances of such hitting in my phones is zero. And I always use a flipcase
I had even demo trying to scratch a Note2 with scissors, keys n blade dragging across display and no scratches at all. Than my buddies were really amazed. Infact you can find numerous YouTube videos of such tests
I will usually remove any preinstall SP if I plan to use phone more than 3 months
Nothing beats using phone naked without any SP

I have the same thinking as well. High-five!..

I dont believe in SP. I used it on my Note 3. I feel that SP affects the accuracy of the S-Pen. I took it out and it is much easier to use. So I never used it since then.

I also saw the Corning Gorilla video. The Corning is adequate enough to withstand scratches from keys and coins. Thats what u encounter most..keys and coins. If u have butterfingers always drop on the floor..maybe u should use SP.

If you are on a budget the Mi Max is a good option
The 32gb model is only around rm900 vs rm1900 for the A9pro
A9pro has edge in its camera n battery life
I had both and what other aspects you wish to know
I would say both phones are good
If you buy Mi Max you must prepare to reflash its firmware as those available here has vendor custom rom with tons of bloatware, prompting up ads etc

This phone is quite a good phone with slick performance, excellent battery life ( I get 13-14 hours SOT on mainly internet stuffs ). I don't do games but absence of gyro doesn't affect me. Gyro is still a doubt but specs showed it has gyro n why was this gyro issue was raised?
The only negative is it warms up while installing app in initial first time. Other than this the phone is as cool as S7e while in use. Some users will hate it doesn't had LED notifications? Such stuffs often irritate me and I would disable such if possible in other phones
Camera n display isn't in the class of S7e but is decently good enough for me
Those who like a 6 inch screen can seriously consider this phone
As in any phones there is no 10/10 phone. I would rate it a 8.5/10

Thanks man for the feedback and reply.

The gyro issue was brought up because spec sheet says it has gyro, but when playing pokemon go unable to AR mode (small issue actually)

I am currently using s4 which has the LED notification thing, I find it useful but I can live without it.

Even iPhone doesn't have Led notification until today.

Will definitely put this phone under consideration.

Maybe Samsung will launch a A9 Pro Plus hahaha..

I think if VR video or game working then the phone have gyro. Maybe for apps like pokemon go have to wait for new update or instead firmware update by samsung.

Basically you can't have 2 whatsapp account in one phone, but theres a few apps in the Playstore that can let you do that.

This app can backup/restore with Google Drive? Or is it like others 3rd party whatsapp that cannot use Google Drive at all.

The A9 Pro supports following LTE bands : 1800 , 1900 , 2100 , 2300 and 2600 Mhz
Yes 4G LTE network operates on TD-LTE in Band 38 (2600MHz) and 40 (2300MHz)

So I don't think it would be any issue with YES ?

Which is better depends on what are the important features you are looking for
I am happy with both Mate8 and A9 Pro. Both has its own pro and cons

The A9Pro is slight heavier than Mate 8 but is not a concern at all with me
Camera and display wise the A9 Pro has an edge over Mate 8
The A9Pro most significant advantage is its insane battery life of 13-14 hours SOT vs 10-11 on Mate 8. My figures are solely based on 80% internet based stuffs ( browsing, RSS, facebook, tweeter, newsfeed, youtubes, whatsapp etc) with no gaming
Operating temperature Mate 8 is the winner - still one of the coolest phone I had used. The A9Pro only gets obviously warm up during continuous installation of apps. Other than this, daily usage the operating temperature is as good an cool as S7e
Performance wise - both I rate about similar. I cannot comment on games as I don't do gaming on phones or tablets
Build quality - both I find equally good. It depend on what you wish in its build materials
UI - is individual taste. I had never like HW or TW UI and I replaced them with Nova Launcher

Without gaming easily 10 hours for me. Will depend too on how strong is your LTE connection. With a mix of wifi n lte 50/50 , easily 13+ hours
Best battery life Android smartphone I had ever used.

Found a normal clear screen protector at AEON Big Puchong Utama. The 15 bucks one. I just cant stand those tempered glass which are not 100% fit because of the slightly curved design on the edge of the screen.

Still looking for a better back casing. Now using the clear type casing.

That "those a bit lifted annoyed me so much". Happy with my cap ayam screen protector for now.

Btw, now we have to accept the fact that his phone doesnt have gyro sensor. Checked on Samsung official website and gyro is not on the spec sheet. Gsmarena need to edit their details on A9 Pro.

Guys, after reading all 14 pages of inputs in this thread, I guess I would get 1 A9 Pro for my wife...

This is the A9 Pro Gold _ Lazada that I manage to found from Lazada. Wife prefer some unique colour beside black or white.

Is there any ongoing discount code/voucher that can get cheaper price from Lazada?

Hope some members here can share~

Million thanks in advance~

P/S : Forgotten to ask, is this A9 Pro support OTG? And usually how do we know whether the smartphone support OTG or not?

A9 Pro was originally aimed for China market. So yes. It does support OTG. The phone itself can also work as a powerbank by connecting it to another phone with OTG cable.

Just receive my A9 Pro from Gemfive...

Heading to Sunway Pyramid for the clear coat screen protector~

Think will choose clear type over matte cause the matte on my S7E are giving some tiny dot colourful effect on white background. Makes me kinda dizzy...

So I guess I will switch to clear one, even it is prone to finger print...

Just need to clean the screen more often~

You are right - both phones are in different class
Note 7 I rate as the best Android phone I had used this year. Its S Pen is simply superb and much better than Note 5
It is basically overall better in nearly every aspect ( except battery life) vs A9 Pro
Only thing I don't quite like is its size which as similar to S7e, Samsung had overly compact its dimensions. Many users will like its size but not me. This factor alone will discourage me to use it as my daily driver.
I much prefer A9 Pro size over it. A9 Pro is of course has a larger display of 6 inches
Battery life of course goes to A9 Pro which is easily double that of Note 7 though its battery capacity is only about 40% higher. The lower speed processor and display resolution I suppose is the major contributing factor
Note 7 however has built in feature to choose either 1080p or 720p resolution too : I had not tested yet how much additional battery savings I could get

The official retail price of the Note 7 is RM 3199 which I personally feel is overpriced. I got it for RM 2879 plus some freebies thrown in ( a Samsung 10000 mAh Fast charge powerbank, Samsung Fast wireless charging pad and an extra travel power adapter set - these total worth about RM 900 ). I will never wish to pay RM 3199 for it without the discount and the freebies
I'd say RM 2.5K is the ideal price for it

What about an A9 pro vs a used Note 5? Both around the same price...

Its S Pen is simply superb and much better than Note 5
It is basically overall better in nearly every aspect ( except battery life) vs A9 Pro

The only advantage Note 5 has over the A9 Pro is its Spen
Note 5 is known to have multi tasking issues even with 4GB ram. Such problem does not exist in A9 Pro
Performance wise I would rate the A9 Pro as slightly better
A9 Pro UI is much leaner and less heavy vs Note 5
Battery life of A9 Pro definitely exceed that of Note 5. For me is 13-14 hours ST vs 5-6 hours on Note 5
Note 5 lacks ext SDcard support while A9 Pro support ext SDcaed besides its dual sim capability

Thanks for this practical advice.

It's valuable as it comes from someone who has actually used these devices (and many others), as opposed to someone who has just read reviews and the specs...).

My 8 hours SOT. Delicious. With other phones when we reach 15% we will go nuts and find the nearest charger. Not with this beast. It took ages from 15 to total kaput. LOL..

A9 Pro sounds like a great device but I watch reviews stating how its camera tend to blow up whites making photo capturing in daytime not so good.

AR = Augmented Reality. Yup. I think ppl stop playing PoGo with AR already. It's easier without it.

Dont base your decision on that only. There are so many things that sets this model apart from other phones.

A9 pro for its nicer display, better camera, overall performance, better battery life n more established stable firmware
But for me I prefer to use MiMax as daily driver solely because of its bigger display
And MiMax is ridiculously cheap. For only rm1.4k you can get a 128gb. A9pro comes only with 32gb

I'd like a screen protector which covers the whole screen. A place in the KL/Selangor area where it can be fitted.

Tried a few places and all bad fit or no-stock...

My friend dropped his phones yesterday. Racun him to buy A9 Pro since he insisted on samsung brand. Luckily though there's special offer on Lazada for RM1699 with free 64GB EVO+ MicroSD Card. Now waiting anxiously since this is my first purchase on Lazada. Hope everything goes well..

am considering to change to a new smart phone with good audio speakers and the ZTE Axon 7 looks fine except the smaller display at 5.5 and i was at samsung store checking out this phone and oh boy the 6"oled screen looks gorgeous and this is coming from me using the note 3.the back glass panel looks and feels premium too although it make the phone a little heavier and can live with that

except this bugger dont have a LED notification light which may be a turnoff and i wonder how current user think and live with this cutback by samsung in their everday usage. can anyone pls comment on the audio quality as i am not confident as this model only has a single bottom and side firing speaker

really love the 6" oled display and it comes with a 5000mah battery if only there is a LED notification light

might just wait for Huawei Mate 9 and hope it will be a amoled display

am considering to change to a new smart phone with good audio speakers and the ZTE Axon 7 looks fine except the smaller display at 5.5 and i was at samsung store checking out this phone and oh boy the 6"oled screen looks gorgeous and this is coming from me using the note 3.the back glass panel looks and feels premium too although it make the phone a little heavier and can live with that

except this bugger dont have a LED notification light which may be a turnoff and i wonder how current user think and live with this cutback by samsung in their everday usage. can anyone pls comment on the audio quality as i am not confident as this model only has a single bottom and side firing speaker

The speakers are average while the Axon 7 is excellent
You can test it at the outlet to assess
Even the OP3 speakers are better
This phone main strength is its battery life - on average was 13-14 hours SOT on mainly internet stuffs without gaming
If you don't mind a bigger display consider MiMax which is only nearly rm800+ only for 32gb n rm1200+ for 128gb.
Notification absence doesn't bother me at all and in.all my phones I tried to disable it as much as possible

I agree with what you have said about the A9pro whose main strength lies in its battery life which is really useful and i am really tempted and i like the built quality as well especially the premium glass feel and the 6" oled display for watching video .the only main feature that samsung had compromise here may be the audio quality

as i much prefer a bigger display i did check the MIMax 6.44" which is my preferred screen size and as you have stated elsewhere, the battery life is amazing too but the built quality and display are much inferior to the A9pro but for what it offer the Mimax comes with an amazingly affordable price.

i did check the audio of both models but the crowd at the shopping complex is too noisy for me to ascertain anything. the Zen Ultra 6.8" will be under consideration too but the screen size is a tad too big . IMO ,the Ultra's RRP is too high but only if its an Amoled then it is a no brainer for me.

the Huawei 6" Mate 8 looks reasonable and thin and just like the S7Edge,feels fragile holding them bare and from the looks of thing ,the forthcoming Mate9 may be some phone to look forward to and hope this time Huawei will opt for a slightly bigger Amoled display or else out of desperation, may choose this A9pro which i believe is good enough

Really. U cant go wrong with A9 Pro. The 6 inch screen on Super amoled is unmatched by others. Heck the 5000 mAh battery will change the way u use ur phone. U wont be looking for charger as much as before. The ui is flawless. The TRUE dual sim and microsd slot is great.

I dont mind the notification lights. There are apps in playstore to use ur flash for notifications.

Speaker wise, while gaming and watching movies, the speaker is good enough. Although I wish it can be louder.

A bit drawback. It doesnt have gyro sensor on it. So, no AR and 360 views on facebook. I dont use it much though. So not that big of a deal.

Bought one for my friend at 1699. So this phone has become more value for money. With free 64GB SDCard too.

And lastly, Samsung build quality. U will own a phone that looks exclusive and nice to hold.

Gold and black looks awesome.

Totally agree of it, if u want bigger screen with dial network, should be consider Samsung A9 Pro 6" with 5000 mAh battery or Samsung Tab S2 8.0" with 4000 mAh battery super amoled plus screen.

Have a good day bro/sister. icon_rolleyes.gif

starship1 All the phones you had mentioned has their own sets of pros and cons. After having used so many types of Androids I had yet to find the perfect phone.
You just need to decide on the budget and which features are more important to you to narrow down your choice.
For me, the closest for 5.5 to 6 inches will be the Note 7 and Zenfone3 Ultra for the 6 to 7 inches category

Refer to Honor 8 thread as there is a guy who bought online from China
If phone held up at custom prepare to pay rm106 for Sirim and 6% GST on phone value. All these easily done online these days. Please refer Nexus 6 official thread page 1 where I had posted how to apply Sirim permit. You will usually get it at worst the next working day. GST you paid to courier company. All these can be easily done online.
China phone will NOT have ANY Google stuffs. You need to install play store n play services yourself from HW Hiapp store. Other Google stuffs download from play store. You might need to go into some Google app permission settings to get some stuffs working well eg sync with Gmail contacts or calendar
If you are buying from Lazada high possibility it will come with play store as seller will preinstall it...do clarify with seller and whether the Sirim n GST is covered too in the price

Yeah. I tried the same thing on my friend's VIVO phone. Same effect but the light distribution stops at the middle. So only the upper half of the phone lights up.

That's really weird. It supposed to be there. hmm.gif

Samsung already mentioned that fast charging is available in all Samsung phones once they upgraded to marshmallow.

http://www.sammobile.com/2016/03/17/samsun...-0-marshmallow/

Your A9 Pro is marshmallow right? Then I have no idea at all why your fast charging option is missing.... rclxub.gif

Any idea why the tempered glass applied on A9 Pro did not stick well on the left and right sides of the screen ? I have tried 2 different tempered glass from diff suppliers, both also same.

Because the screen is a litttle bit edgy on the side. That's why. Some goes with A5 2016.

Yes i noticed that too. But the tempered glass already 2-3mm smaller from the edge already but still not able to stick to it. My previous iphone 6s plus also has some edges but no problem for the tempered glass!

Bigger screen. Bigger battery. Bigger storage. New one the cheapest will go to 1699 last time in lazada. Now back to 1.7k. 450 cheaper? If it is in great condition why not? With note 5, u dont have the storage freedom.

Dont mind the no led function. Scroll up for my video on how I replicate the notification led function. It is way cooler.

Hello guys, do you guys face a problem like me recently?
The problem is the SIM 2 cant receive any sms or calls when it is 2G/3G (auto-connect) mode, while switch it to only 2G then it only works.

I guess this problem only appear after the update last week.
Hope I am the only one who has this problem

Hi all, just got my A9 pro few days ago. Bought from Gemfive from White Shadow Mobile. Just found out that the seller WSM did not register my phone for E-warranty. Any idea what can be done except contacting the seller? register my own?

yea. i saw currently there's only rm1900 on gemfive, even after 10% it gets around rm1710. At Rm17xx, probably there's other website that sells around that price or cheaper.

A question for A9 Pro users:

Is it true that this phone doesn't have a LED notification light like the other samsung phones. For example, when charging a red led light is on and when the charging is full, a green light is shown; when there is a new incoming message the LED notification will show a blinking blue, etc.

I thought that the LED notification light is a standard in all samsung phones. Much appreciate if someone could confirm this as this is an important feature for me.

If there is no LED notification light, are there any 3rd party apps which can mimick the above notifications of the charging state and incoming messages?

Yeah... but to me not really an issue. Just check it when you pick it up.

Also can be a good thing, let you be more engaged to the real world than be a slave to the phone. laugh.gif

If there is no LED notification light, are there any 3rd party apps which can mimick the above notifications of the charging state and incoming messages?

does this mean we wont get sms notification lights?

memory is not huge advantage, 4gb more than enough for a smartphone. I think I will go for the A9 pro, beside the cpu is a better device.

Also how is the battery? Mate 8 got 103hrs of batt life on gsmarena review. Havent done a9 pro yet.

Was on Note 5, so how much bigger is this phone compared?

Tq guys. Will ask more later

Check out an A9 pro before you buy as it's a heavy phone - the difference is noticeable. Also, holding it is not too easy given that the back is not as nicely curved as other models.

For me, the extra battery life (> 1 day) wasn't worth the extra weight over competitors from Huawei/Xiaomi (also Lenovo P2 felt nice).

The good points of the phone remain of course...mentioned in this forum and elsewhere [battery, screen, battery, camera, battery, performance, and, er, battery].

Thanks mate.

Yeah.. i like a9 for its bigger batt & samoled screen, but its also bigger & heavier too.

mate8 seems better at ram optimization & got better processor.

Still undecided. Will go & try one at 1G or Dtd 1st.

Thanks again bro.. useful info on handling.. important on such sized phone.. +1 thumbup.gif

That's weird. Should be able via Google Play.

Try allow unknown sources, go to Settings > Lock Screen and Security > Enable "Unknown Sources"

I have just installed the update yesterday night,
and i notice my battery drain so fast since this morning.
Normally even heavy use i can have roughly 60% battery left,
but now the battery drain from 100% to 60% even i din really use it!
I can keep hearing the NFC connection sound without touching it!
and some more bluetooth car connection will on and off automatically
keep losing the signal then resume automatically which never happened before the updates!
ranting.gif

Anyway, i wonder if i myself only facing these problems?
i suggest you guys better don't install the update 1st until it has already confirmed stable
