just out of curiosity, i see many screenshots here without using the "black marker pen" to "highlight" the torrents

a proxy server is a proxy, like someone is your proxy when you use him to represent you. your bt client is you. PAW is your proxy to the Internet to the ISP to etc. etc. when you use it, it represent you to your outside connections. it is an additional software between your bt client AND the ISP and...the trackers.
proxy servers were (when having multiple phone line/modems/accounts were expensive) used to allow one and more workstations to connect the Internet through a single Internet connection which runs the proxy server. workstations uses its proxy setting to point to the proxy server and the proxy server connect out. when data flows in the proxyserver check whom it is for and sent it there = back and forth, back and forth. the bt client is not "directly" connected to the net, the proxy-server is. becoz tmnet is blocking by user-agent you make use of PAW to FAKE the user-agent info, so that the ISP think it is eg. IE user-agent and NOT bt. you should use a string that is an actual user-agent information because the ISP cannot block browser's user-agent! in order to use the proxy note down what default ip and port it is using, or set your own. then change your bt client to use proxy with these 2 values. there is no need to set user/password on the proxy if you are the only one using it. you must not change your bt client's port to the port used by the proxy eg proxy port = 8088 (whatever) and bt port = 60666 not 8088! so eg. in bt client's config the proxy = 192.168.1.6 port = 8088. proxy type should be HTTP unless it is SOCKS. to test if the proxy works using a browser, go to the "connection" inside options/preferences under network/advanced/ whatever, look for proxy. use the values you noted before. if you don't do this you probably can surf but we want to test the connection through the proxy server, so change the values in the browser's proxy settings. now if you can surf the proxy is working and so should your bt client. proxy server usually have traffic logs. check it out. the main point is not the proxying bt client but the faking the user-agent info. a proxy server allows you to fake this info. it is all there in the first post/page. obligatory disclaimer: i'm not using PAW or proximotron or a win32 proxy with the ability to "customise" user-agent. hope that helps This post has been edited by beelzebob13: Jan 26 2007, 07:05 PM |

QUOTE(dandelion2005 @ Jan 26 2007, 06:54 PM) Ok...is this why i can't seem to connect to scarywater most of the time? Occasionally, i bet to connect and the spped is good too.. i'm using bittornado, can i use this as well? if this is addressed to me. i would say...you have not given enough info. but given that your isp is tmnet or as it is referred here lovinglly as tmnut, i would say the chances is yes, you probably need to do this. sometimes scarywater trackers are finniky if i remember but that was quite a while ago. but generally scarywater was pretty fast and there are so many of them. i have zero experience with bittornado, but if the bt client can set proxy config then the chances are it will work with this solution (see 1st post!) |

after installing and running privoxy it appears in the system-tray, right-click, edit->Default Actions (open in notepad) OR from privoxy window Options>Edit Default Actions. find for "user-agent" (no quotes), there are several, skip those until at about line 580 (somewhere in the middle) edit to look like: +hide-user-agent{Mozilla (X11; I; Linux 2.0.32 i586)} \ don't delete the " \" at the end. privoxy uses default 127.0.0.1 and port 8118, so go to your bt client and enter this as your proxy. look at privoxy log and your tracker info should appear there. now, set your browser, say IE and change its proxy setting to 127.0.0.1 and port 8118 and browse. check privoxy log to confirm. to confim that you have change your user-agent go to: http://www.webprodevelopment.com/Web_Toys/..._My_User_Agent/ if it reports your customized user-agent. success. bt client should now connect to trackers. |

QUOTE(hahn87 @ Jan 28 2007, 04:10 PM) privoxy settings are a bit more complicated.. but they run better as i tested with IE.... overall... thx all for sharing this... appreciate it.. privoxy is a bit complicated and more powerful - but basically you only need to change that one line to fake the user-agent (and set proxy values to your bt client) and you are good to go.oh yah... some international peer can jalan wor... but crawling speed lar... only 1 or 2 connected at once nia.. i'm not sure why but i am (also) getting international peers/seeds |

is using a proxy server solves only HALF the problem?
the other half is the international peers' traffic which may or may not be faking their user-agent. is this why international peers cannot connect? could someone inform them? to fake their user-agent and use forced encryption? edit: and another thing: most (all?) the bt CONTENT are internationally sourced right? so how is it possible if all international peers/seeds are blocked for local bt-users to dl "foreign" content to share-share among local bt-users? SOMEONE must be connecting to foreign peers and downloading. is tmnut rotating this "new feature"? to keep the number small without completely cutting off the head of the golden goose? secure-tunnel cost money right? and it is a "modification" too ain't it?
i think we're already paying enuf for "broad"band tmnut style. i don't think it is right to spend more money to "solve" tmnut doings - i can use this money for thatching my leaking roofs first. QUOTE(shadowrem @ Jan 31 2007, 01:07 PM) beelzebob13, the user agent you are using now allows you to DL most of the torrents is it? I got some torrents that can go fast and some that just got stuck there no, it does not allow all peers/leeches of all torrents dl. i DO get a few outside peers/leeches that can dl/ul - but these torrents are not "popular" ones, so they have very few seeds/peers as it is.i don't think which the user-agent matters. tho' i have tried a few types and they are more or less the same result. most of them are in this bad way too - stuck and going nowhere. have you or anyone or is anyone already using bt client forced encryption with proxy server? |

QUOTE(shadowrem @ Jan 31 2007, 05:49 PM) hmm...ic thks for the info man go here to read more on encryptioni put the encryption to "enabled" though i dunno what is the difference between enabled and force http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=5742&p=1 (sort of "old" discussion but may be relevant?) use enable outgoing encryption and allow legacy for flexibility. if ISP is really "heavy" on blocking bt then force+disable legacy - not sure if tmnut is "heavy" - seems pretty heavy to me - but my max speed is possible (not throttled) if the "conditions" are right. i'm only suggesting encryption so that we would connect to "E" clients which may prevent tmnut from detecting it and improve traffic between here and "foreign" peers. my foreign leechers/peers with "some" traffic all have the "E" flag on. ot: too bad utorrent has sold out to cohen (the bt inventor!) who is pro r*AA and m*AA, and anti-encryption. |

looks like good news (at least for some) but who knows about tmnut turning back the screws.
if you haven't digest this something to chew on in the meanwhile: http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Avoid_traffic_shaping and http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_ISPs both tmnut and jaring ARE in the list of Bad ISPs. (do i hear "malaysia boleh!" ?) check out the "level of encryption" to avoid being traffic shaped. tmnut's is a "?" while jaring is "2+". applies to azureus only. for utorrent (i think) do not have option for level "1". if you read the title of columns as the "screws" you can see that: 1. jaring users get two screws (col 1 & 5) 2. tmnut users get one screw but should be 2 (col 1 AND 5, needs update!) and there are a lot of more screws in their arsenal... QUOTE(the65thsquare @ Feb 1 2007, 05:31 PM) well, yes, and the other point is how to avoid being screwed for now. sometimes i wonder why all your expectations are so sky high given the wide "support" for "malaysia boleh" and the constant condemnation of tmnut? why don't some of you go work for tmnut and improve the situation if you can. if some can be made to improve by beating them up i would be the first to take the beatings. QUOTE(leeyong @ Feb 5 2007, 07:44 AM) Until yesterday (late pm) (or today am, dunno coz I was sleeping probably you've set "the figures" too high (max global connections, no. of peers per torrent, etc.Now - "proxy error: error code: HTTP 404", speed _ FLAT zero Any ideas? Help ! if you're using a proxy server perhaps it is saying it cannot find the tracker because your modem has "jammed" after "a while". at first your "unrealistic" bt client's settings will work for "some time" but not after "a while" and the modem needs to be reset. settle for more "reasonable" bt settings. i'm only guessing here coz you need to be more clear in your post, like how many downloads are running at the same time? is this the ONLY zero dl? what are your settings for max global connection, no. of connection per torrent? what bt client you're using? can you surf when bt downloading zero? |

QUOTE(uhlaw @ Feb 5 2007, 12:14 PM) How to add a user string to PAW? Can guide me? I dont know how to write a user string... the setting in PAW cant be saved? you don't have to ADD a user-agent string for PAW. after starting paw, run the startGUI.bat. login. click the "o-" thing next to Files to "open" the list of files you may edit. select "headers-request". DETETE ONE of the "#" marks like so:# Mask as Microsoft IE 6.0 User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 4.0) meaning your user-agent is Mozilla/4.0. next SAVE by clicking on the GREEN floppy disk ICON next to the TITLE "headers-request" at the top. you may or may not have to quit and restart paw server for changes to take effect. quit and restart anyway to make sure. go the same place as before and confirm that your un-commented user-agent is ok. also, if it is not too troublesome read page 1 of this thread. |

QUOTE(uhlaw @ Feb 6 2007, 09:59 AM) yes, now click the green-floppy icon at the top to save your changes if you haven't already.if you have followed the OTHER instructions/steps closely and correctly, when you run startGUI.bat, login, and click on the "EYE" icon you should see logs of your bt trackers. using PAW (or some other proxy server) is to change/fake your bt user-agent to a "typical" browser's user-agent. tmnut will think you are browsing and NOT doing bt and not block you. on ANOTHER LEVEL, you may require to use some form of ENCRYPTION settings on your bt client - i only use 2, azureus and utorrent, both are capable of using bt encryption. the REASON for using encryption is to become UNDETECTED by tmnut if they examine packets. unencrypted packets are easy to detect what they are. to decrypt encrypted packets are a HUGE waste of time so they (probably) won't do it. |
