a proxy server is a proxy, like someone is your proxy when you use him to represent you. your bt client is you. PAW is your proxy to the Internet to the ISP to etc. etc. when you use it, it represent you to your outside connections. it is an additional software between your bt client AND the ISP and...the trackers.
proxy servers were (when having multiple phone line/modems/accounts were expensive) used to allow one and more workstations to connect the Internet through a single Internet connection which runs the proxy server. workstations uses its proxy setting to point to the proxy server and the proxy server connect out. when data flows in the proxyserver check whom it is for and sent it there = back and forth, back and forth. the bt client is not "directly" connected to the net, the proxy-server is. becoz tmnet is blocking by user-agent you make use of PAW to FAKE the user-agent info, so that the ISP think it is eg. IE user-agent and NOT bt. you should use a string that is an actual user-agent information because the ISP cannot block browser's user-agent! in order to use the proxy note down what default ip and port it is using, or set your own. then change your bt client to use proxy with these 2 values. there is no need to set user/password on the proxy if you are the only one using it. you must not change your bt client's port to the port used by the proxy eg proxy port = 8088 (whatever) and bt port = 60666 not 8088! so eg. in bt client's config the proxy = 192.168.1.6 port = 8088. proxy type should be HTTP unless it is SOCKS. to test if the proxy works using a browser, go to the "connection" inside options/preferences under network/advanced/ whatever, look for proxy. use the values you noted before. if you don't do this you probably can surf but we want to test the connection through the proxy server, so change the values in the browser's proxy settings. now if you can surf the proxy is working and so should your bt client. proxy server usually have traffic logs. check it out. the main point is not the proxying bt client but the faking the user-agent info. a proxy server allows you to fake this info. it is all there in the first post/page. obligatory disclaimer: i'm not using PAW or proximotron or a win32 proxy with the ability to "customise" user-agent. hope that helps This post has been edited by beelzebob13: Jan 26 2007, 07:05 PM |

Occasionally, i bet to connect and the spped is good too.. i'm using bittornado, can i use this as well? if this is addressed to me. i would say...you have not given enough info. but given that your isp is tmnet or as it is referred here lovinglly as tmnut, i would say the chances is yes, you probably need to do this. sometimes scarywater trackers are finniky if i remember but that was quite a while ago. but generally scarywater was pretty fast and there are so many of them. i have zero experience with bittornado, but if the bt client can set proxy config then the chances are it will work with this solution (see 1st post!) |

Ok....yes, tmnut is cheating me. well, mine can't change proxy for Bt, in fact, there's nothing like that at all... maybe i haven't chance upon it yet. if not, what client should i try? What info do you need?
and you all get sppeds that fast before? gee, mine was maximum 59kBs..andit's the 1 M package... Ohh...and when i get to connect, i mostly get overseas connection only.... This post has been edited by dandelion2005: Jan 26 2007, 07:23 PM |

Hey guys, im getting HTTP error 500 too. Tried redownloading the torrent but no use.
As for the header-request thing, I don't understand. If Mozilla, how'd i put it at: User-Agent:Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0b; Windows NT 5.1) Is it like this? This post has been edited by ky_ler: Jan 26 2007, 11:00 PM |

I'm using PAW right now and I've done everything as in the instructions in the first page. However, my problem is that I have to restart my utorrent every half an hour or so because after half an hour, the tracker status for my torrents will go from "working" to "proxy connect error: offline (timed out)". After restarting, the status will go back to "working". Any ideas on how to make it work permanently?
