Many user from China and Taiwan all complain about the stock firmware keep disconnecting and have to keep restart the router. Most of them recommend using 3rd part firmware due Huawei stop update the firmware.

BTW, anyone using Tomato firmware?
*
Hmm... I think compatibility issue. My parent has a smart tv and it seem like wifi adapter sucks or the soc is too sluggish. Sometimes it will stutter, but other time will be okay. Thing is when I watch the same youtube video on my S6E, no such problem. I find the router is pretty stable with stock firmware.

Update:

Seem like my phone also slow with YouTube. Went home and Maxis also slow. YouTube is being throttled lately? I know my sons are abusing YouTube a lot but to think that it's being throttled is crazy. Twitch was working fine.

most (almost all) type of electrical and electronic part is designed of temperature up to 60 C. Operating exceeding the temperature over long period will shorten the lifespan of the products.

You can't use this for soc design. They are designed based on tdp rather than temperature. It will throttle when it reach thermal thresholds.

This question, coming from a self claimed "network specialist"?

Wow. Just wow
*
Hahahaha... later he report your post...

He reported mine even though Im merely stating what I perceived from all his replies. He basically just look at branding, not a single word about the model, spec.

Reminded me of someone from Symbian thread... LOL

A self-proclaimed "network specialist". laugh.gif

He reported mine too, but what is the effect of that reporting?

I can still access the forum and post as normal.

Does it mean that the mods don't give a damn to his report?  laugh.gif

Well, of course, mods also look at your post and determine whether or not the complain is valid or not. If complain valid, you will see an increase at your warning level. If not valid, then just move on la.

The seller yue20131028 is really not helpful
He entered the wrong tracking number for domestic shipping, now it cannot be tracked
He provided the correct tracking number afterwards in chat but he is still not willing to help to contact the transfer warehouse to get the international tracking number for me
It's his own fault to begin with
My first purchase was fine but the 2nd time is not going well

Well, just install aliwangwang and contact the warehouse forwarder. Just explain your situation and give them the correct tracking number. Then they will create a new work order which then you'll proceed to pay (if you haven't paid if using 3rd party). After that they will ship with international tracking. If the local tracking is not matching, your item won't ship. So you can kiss your item goodbye.

Been there few times. No worries. If you drag too long, the warehouse charges will be expensive.

The question is where to get cheap WS880 these days? laugh.gif

No need Huawei already... nowadays Tenda is quite cheap and comes with 3 years warranty if Im not mistaken.

You can try AC18 on Lazada.

Is Archer C7 v4 a good choice?

I need a router that can extend to a 2 floors unit.
Got any other recommendations for RM 350?
*
Previous version is using Atheros chipset which is inferior to the dual core broadcom chipset which is popular now. I suggest you look at Tenda AC18.

However I can't guarantee your need for coverage. That's because many people misunderstand how wifi coverage works. It's in radius, thus it's best to place it in the middle of the house in order to maximise signal strength. If you're placing it in one corner, you're effectively reducing your wifi strength to 1/4 of it's full strength.

Err.. I don't need it because I already bought WS880 during sales last time.

I see. I feel like the thick casing is causing it to overheat in recent hot weather.

Today I pried open one of mine, cut a hole at the back to and leave the front open. It has a bare heatsink at the front and fin heatsink at the back. Let's see if it helps. Might add a fan later.

Is your WS880 still working fine?

I had two units, one in my house and another in my parents house. Both are flashed to Asuswrt. It seem like the router is almost dying or overheating. I took apart some part of the router, mill a hole, and stick a fan to cool it. It worked for a couple weeks and then start to hang again. Took it apart, apply thermal paste here and there to solve the hang. It seem to help but both unit also exhibit intermittent internet connectivity through WiFi. I think the router is known to exhibit this problem even when I first got it but once few times a day. Right now it can exhibit this problem few times in an hour which can be annoying.

Placed an order for Tenda AC18 to try and see if the router is really dying or what.

haha im renting it out to 7 different houses lol. now my internet is free and i got some income out of it. at first the ws880 was doing good until a month its suddenly hanged once a day lol

Thermal pad gone...

Also had two WS880. Given up after almost daily hang. Refused to buy thermal pad and I just used a lot of thermal paste and it was good for few months then start to hang again. Change to Tenda AC18 and it boosted my parents house Unifi speed. I already cracked open the case and install a fan to cool it but still hang.

I see. Thats really bad. Maybe thats why they sold it so cheap last time. Fan also not doing anything?
*
Yeah. Before the constant hang, I already added a fan after cutting open 2 big hole in the case. After I added a fan, it only hang once or twice a month. Then it started to hang very often after 6months or so. Thats when I really dismantled everything and found that the thermal pad are not doing enough. Buying replacement thermal pads is expensive and I also thought of buying aluminium sheet but decided against it since it is just cheaper to buy used router. Bought 2 Tenda AC18 for RM100 each and problem solved.
