tat is orthos bug,try use other software to check the vcore,and if possible..try better psu

Its not Vista bug either. Orthos will only recognize the default multiplier. Like E6700 has 10x, and you set for example 400 x 8, it will shows 4Ghz instead.

Your DS3 has a vdroop of around 0.08v, which is pretty bad I would say. So just remember this vdroop value, it will helps you in future overclocking. Your RAM timing you can set to 5-5-5-15 instead using auto.

Now you might want to try 450 x 8, which is 3.6Ghz. Just now I get to test out one E6600 with batch L651B, 450 x 8, 1.4vcore bootable.

What vcore in BIOS you set? Try 1.5v BIOS, should give you 1.42v real.
Windows XP also has the same problem actually.

Bootable only, not sure in Windows will be stable or not. Don't want to overclock too much as the system belongs to my customer. Anyway, gonna see 3.6ghz @ 1.4vcore will be stable or not tomorrow. Yet to install Windows XP onto it.

not really,sometime a good batch proc can boot @ 3.2ghz stock voltage,hyde using 3.6ghz @ 1.4v is kinda good batch processor....i think he able to do it.

Actually need a lot of attempts if u really want to max out the proc speed. 
mine at the beggining only can reach 3.5+GHz only. Done many tiral and error, modify on NB and proc cooling, adjusting vCore, vMCH,  vDimm & timing bla3.... need some time and effort, also different set up have diff result, other ppl cant help u much aactually 

ur PSU is reliable? no offence, dont push too far with icute. I own it b4, not so stable.

u mean it blow the PSU dead?.....wow....anyway, mine also the same..can boot and play games(battlefield and C&C TW) at 3.6G with 1.45vbios but when i bench with SuperPI 32M it is not stable.vdroop cause my cpu run with 1.40v.when i set vcore 1.5v  vdroop give only 1.42vcore but somehow it run good with games,sPi 32m and prime.

u r still using gigabyte ds4 is it?if gigabyte u might want to try flashing ur bios.my cpu idle temp is 32 degree C and full cpu temp is 49 degree C.

last time when i bought gigabyte ds3, i was bundled with f4 bios.i tried overclock with bios f7,f8,f9,f10,f11.the best bios was f10.this is different with the review i've read.they said f7 was the best.right now ds4 has f9 bios.maybe you can try that.

windows not loading might be due to temp.it just stop when full cpu load due to windows loading.unless BSOD then your memory is the problem.if your temp is high,you might need more voltage.ds4 has 6 phase if i'm not mistaken.ur prob i think is more to the temp.some people clock e6600 4Ghz++ with prometeia at 1.6++vcore.

anyway, 680i support fsb 1333 <---future upgrade and blah...blah...blah.performance just better than 965 in difference of seconds.not really important.unless you r a die hard overclocker.

p/s:-most people use asus p5b deluxe for c2d OC.they got higher clock.

what is the end 5 code of your processor product code?SL9ZL or SL9S8?
