different proc have diff overclocking ability...its lucky if u can go above 3.7ghz barrier
*
yeah.. i believe both luck and batch number plays important role in OC.. same pieces of hardwares, same batch number do not guarantee same overclocking result smile.gif

fyi, those extreme ocers like at xs, or other oversea forums, they bought lots of processors, test it 1 by 1 and then we can see they hit 4ghz and above..

i also bought lots of conroe but not for overclocking purpose.. i concern more about heat.. some chip produces less heat than the others.. and in terms of oc, i had conroe that cant do 2.9ghz, while my current conroe can run super PI at 3.7ghz at 1.4vcore.

based on my 5x E6600s vs 3x E6400s vs 1x E6300, i'm very sure the 2mb L2 chip needs extra 200mhz to get same score as its 4mb brother in super PI..

so in other words, based on my experience, if my E6600 is at 3.4ghz, i need to set my E6400 or E6300 to 3.6ghz to get same result in Super PI.

In ur case, the E6400 is at 400mhz higher than the E6600, but still slower 0.765 secs in super PI.

So my GUESS is the diferrence comes from other things, such as background application, mem usage, and / or tweaked windows..

neway just wanna share with u guys my quick test with this XBX2.

E6600 @ 3.7ghz 1.375vcore, 1.6vmch, 1.3vfsb
Intel XBX2 bios 2333 1066 strap
Mushkin DDR2 800 @ 5-5-5-15 @ 1.84vdimm

Okei, since i had used lots of boards, i would like to give my comments on them. since this is from my personal experience, my opinion might not same with u bcoz of hardware differences and environment.

965: gigabyte ds4, dq6, ds3, asus p5b dlx wifi edition, biostar 965 dlx

975: asus p5w dh dlx wifi, intel xbx2

for 965, my first board ds4 was ok.. but lack of bios support made me jumped to gigabyte flagship board, dq6.
dq6 was not bad, until i read that asus p5b dlx is the best conroe board at that time.
but the asus gave me lots of trouble. it reported my memory as error while the ram itself was proven ok when i tested it with other board.. i couldnt reach as high oc as i got with dq6.
with ds3, i can get same max oc as dq6, but the ds3 produced a disturbing noise.
the biostar is the best conroe i had at that time. no memory issues, no noise, highest oc result i achieved.

for 975, asus p5w dh is better than the biostar. it is faster @ same clockspeed, more stable, and the bios is easy to configure. but in terms of oc, i just managed to hit the same speed as i got with the biostar.

the xbx2 : has less features than the p5w dh dlx.. as i bought this board just after 2 hours review @ xs, somehow i felt like i made a wrong decision.. but few days later i found out this is the best board i ever used with intel processor..

1) 100mhz extra clockspeed than what i got with my p5w dh dlx. (3.8 vs 3.7)

2) need significantly lower voltages than p5w dh dlx ( 3.7 @ 1.375vcore, 1.6vmch, 1.3vfsb VS 3.7 @ 1.45vcore, 1.65vmch, 1.4 vfsb)

3) bios recovery if bios flashing fail

4) and most importantly, no more cold boot, or power on off like other c2d boards.

however this xbx2 still got few disadvantages

1) less attractive stuffs like wifi, bundles, to justify its price

2) bad jumper position

3) no screw hole for chipset heatsink. so 3rd party hsf that can be used is limited..

4) got problem with software like everest and IDCC.

hi guy,

i planning to buy this OCZ PC2-6400 SOE Urban Elite 2x1GB, Micron D9GMH from pcmoddingmy from his sales http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/394988 but need a good overclocker board for this rams and my E6600(ES version brought from nakata101) and can archive ddr2 1000 at CL4 and also on 1T settting if possible but after reading some review that are 2 board have a decent price and quite good overclock not like overkill price are Asus P5B Deluxe, p5b-e plus and AW9D MAX  so which is more suitable for me and im using scythe ninja heatsinks
*
QUOTE(mikelanding @ Jan 14 2007, 12:20 AM)
got BIG budget =Asus P5B Deluxe
got ok budget = P5B-e plus
Abit = I not sure the performance...less people use...
*
my suggestion is to avoid asus p5b dlx wink.gif

for that amount, go for intel 975xbx2 extreme desktop or asus p5w dh dlx.

avoid abit aw9d max since it has crappy bios (no offence for its user here but this is sadly true sad.gif ) while asus p5b-e plus has very big vdroop problem

for little budget, biostar 965pt / gigabyte ds3 is a better choice smile.gif

QUOTE(cstkl1 @ Jan 16 2007, 08:31 AM)
rams i tell u go crucial directly.
also would recommend kingston

what i look for in rams... stability, motherboard compatability, speed, timings and has a office for easy rma.

corsair is having loads of reviews.. but geee i used to buy rams from them and always have to send rma. i think thier higher end rams are ok.
but checkout even newegg or tigerdirect.. u find a lot of rma compared to kingston and crucial who rarely ppl buy and have problems
*
act, if u like to browse in other forums such as vr zone, xs, dfi streets u'll find that crucial got numbers of rma as well..

u said lot of rma for corsair? u answered it urself. kingston and crucial people rarely buy, so the rma rate is lower than other brand... but maybe the percentage is the same rolleyes.gif

another thing, for me the important thing when buying stuff is budget. lots of budget u can buy expensive stuffs, small budget cheap stuffs.
the best stuff for u is the best stuff ur money can buy.

best stuff for me not necessary will be best stuff for others..

enermax, silverstone, zalman all are very good psu.. i dont think u'll get disappoint with these brand smile.gif

uik noticed on ure siggy irenic u have an em2
sish cycom conned job by putting that under performance ram..
which they said it was their distributor that sold it under performance ram...
*
it might not fall into the real performance ram due to its timing, but dont forget that mine can reach very high fsb 1080fsb @ 2.2vdimm only and stable orthos.. maybe at loose timing but not many ram can reach 1000 even at loose timing biggrin.gif
gskill hz also max out around 950fsb wink.gif

devilman, u need to oc step by step. increase ur fsb, then run orthos for 5-10mins, if no prob, increase fsb again, i say 5 fsb each, then run orthos again.. repeat until iorthos fail and then u need to increase ur vcore.

any one try asus comando some shop are sellin it cheap rm800++ sumtin,it more value than striker i think since lot sa ppl told me striker no good...so this is the same level for dq6 i guess, cant wait to see the result for commando, hopefully irenic will do a little review on it..
*
the RM800++ is a promotion price, means for few units only (not really sure how many).. and most of them are booked.

normal price is rm1.15k, even u convert from USD also cant get RM800..

some of those fellas in XS are using them, and they got good results

yeah, but XBX2 is the way to go now.

yeah some are not bad.. but percentage of bad abit is way higher than bad xbx2 biggrin.gif
