Yes, correct. And its not a stupid question smile.gif
Yepp, I know that they're OK transferring to same bank, but for those where I don't have CASA (e.g. Citi and UOB), very risky. The last resort is of course to cancel card, then they probably have to refund you.

Hi I'm also a bit lost here, as I've never done BT before. I understand the steps @pisang said. But what I don't understand is, how do you have excess amount from your BT transfer? I read one of the forumers saying, i think it was @MGM that said, they will apply for 10k, and settle the cc bill of 1k, and the 9k "excess" can be put into an FD facility.

I was under the impression you can only BT the amount you owe/due,and once money transferred (from MBB to HongLeong for example), that money will be used to settle the cc bill, therefore no excess.

Or is it that you already are going to settle the bill anyways with your own money, but this way you get extra "loan" without any interest?

What am I missing here? Sorry for being stupid here

Let me try to answer your BT questions, which are definitely not "stupid". smile.gif

1. For credit cards which do not require supporting statements for BT applications (currently, PBB, MBB via M2u and AMBANK via telephone), the cardholder just has to provide the bank with ANY AMOUNT they wish to transfer, subject to the cardholder having sufficient credit limit.

In contrast, AEON's BT programme is more stringent, and requires a statement to prove the outstanding amounts on other cards.

2. For those "non-statement" BTs, you can theoretically BT ANY amount into ANY card, regardless of whether or not there is an outstanding amount. The amount will show up as a credit, and if your bank allows, this credit can be offset against your other principal and supplementary cards (with the same bank) and/or transferred into your current / savings account.

3. I have tried and tested the following several times:

- MBB: Excess credit can be offset against other cards and then transferred to Maybank savings account. If credit is below a certain threshold (possibly RM10k, but not confirmed), then no need written request or supporting documentation, just a call to CS will do.

- PBB: Excess credit can be offset against other cards (but not necessary to do so) and transferred to PBB savings account. PBB have always asked me to provide a written request (via e-mail) for transfers to savings account. Need to attach supporting documentation such as BT application form AND proof of payment (can be other bank's unbilled transaction listing or screenshot of SMS approval etc etc).

- HLB: Excess credit can be offset against other cards and transferred to HLB or other bank saving accounts (no charges incurred). Based on the amounts I transferred (always less than RM10k), just a telephone call will do.

The above is based on my experience. Some banks will require more or less documentation. Because this is trial and error, I always keep my "excess" below RM10k.

4. Once the money is in your savings account, it is basically an interest free loan which you can spend or FD.

Super! Understood fully. Appreciate you taking the time to explain at length about the details.

So now time for me to apply AmBank credit card! Is the 0% interest for new card holders still valid? Followed the link previous forumer posted (applied for 30k without any charge) and went through many T&C but could not find the one with 0%.

On another note, can a supplementary card holder request BT to a credit card that he is a principal at i.e. supplementary at MBB, request BT to HLB where I am a principal (therefore same name).

Thanks lilsunflower!

Hi guys,

Balance Transfer for new to card users 0% still available? Tried searching online but couldn't find. My friend says still available.

Planning to get 1 with PPL access but only have 60k income. Need to do some research if any cards entitled for this amount.

Thanks!

Edit: Found the Terms and Conditions. Expires on 30th April 2017
