Two days ago (Jun 28) local website All Singapore Stuff published an article “Roast Pork Smell From Temple Dinner Too Unbearable For Fasting HDB Resident” which had over 600 shares on Facebook.

The article reported on a series of Facebook posts by an individual who took issue with the roasting of pork right under his window for a large-scale dinner event:

user posted image
"Called up NEA direct & being told that they will refer & report it to the town council as the event is approved by them...so please Ang Mo Kio Town Council, i wonder what ur actions will be.

MUIS, is this ok for us....?? So, battling the smell & nausea, for me assisting the investigations, if any, i went down to take pics for their perusal.

I am not the type of person to go around complaining but roasting pork in the open & directly under my nose (my unit i mean), i think it is disrespecting for us Fasting in this holy month of ours. Now, the stench is stuck in my home affecting me if not others."

Such words would surely result in negative responses which carry tones of race and religion. And indeed there were many.
But testament to our racial and religious harmony, comments calling for tolerance and understanding received the most Likes, while those that were negative hardly received any:

my favourite comment is from this guy

Khan Saab.

"As a Muslim I hate people who use religion for the sake of their own personal problems.

Fasting month so what? Just be more patient la, it's just a test from God. Come on, just a few days only la. This is Singapore, multi-racial.If you dont like go and migrate to our neighbour's country.

What's so special about us that other races have to give privileges? As long as we respect each other beliefs, should be fine.

My advice to other Muslims, think before talk cause it reflects us.

Truly impressed with the matured discussion. It shows that Singkie is much more civilized than us, they have more class. The Muslim Singaporeans have better education standard and much more knowledgeable. Using proper English instead of bahasa rempit.

If this happens in Malaysia, expect sh!ts in bahasa rempit like protek, ketuanan, bumi ini milik siapa, kafir harbi, jihad, balik Tongshan, maruah, tak respek orang tengah puasa, tak hormat agama rasmi, Melayu kena bersatu......

I think their Malays there could only speak but they can't really spell nor write. So they could only comment in English. I would say in SG everyone may speak in their mother tongue but they communicate via social apps in English only. So in MRT those who type in English are mostly sinkies, whilst those typing in Malay Chinese Tamil etc .. are usually foreigners .. pretty easy to identify

actually, whether it's roast pork, or chicken satay, it's not really OK to cook in public without proper ventilation.

whenever there's pasar malam or bazaar, the smoke is everywhere, choking smoke, it's not about closing windows because how can you close windows when you are walking outside? wear face mask? there's gotta be some rules on open cooking. at least no excessive smoke. food that require cooking producing lots of smoke should have a proper vent/filter.

Actually the cooks should not have set up their cooking utensils there.

Two reasons -

1. people might be drying their laundry.
2. people might be drying their laundry. biggrin.gif People hang their wet laundry and the water droplets fall down on to the food. Pork or otherwise.

Feel so shame for our fellow malaysian

Everyday accuse Singapore racist but deep down we know we are the most racist

Everyday shout being discriminated while being the majority

Thumbs up for Singaporean standing up for racial harmony and justice

Wow all those comment....

Living in multiracial country is about tolerate. Both of my neighbors are Chineese, on my left hand right hand side he's a Sami who celebrate Wesak (bakar colok) and call up Lion Dance we already used to it..

We exchange food, my grand ma give him Rendang during Hari Raya and he gave us Orange during CNY.

But nowadays my neighbors are anonymous, this Raya I'm going to give them Rendang just to start to know them Huhu

Meanwhile in a not so distant place

Cross taken down because some people may easily get influenced.
Housing with a looking like cross structure from certain angle was asked to modify it.
And an influential religious person declared certain people legal to kill based on religious principle.

QUOTE(LordDenning @ Jul 2 2016, 09:41 PM)

Where are these progressive Muslims in Malaysia? They even said other races tolerated their prayers why can't they they do the same to other races culture.
They stood up for other races instead their own.
Here all diam membisu only.

I think apart from religion their mentality also plays a part.

Malaysia, some certain groups expect people to cater to them. Taxi drivers expect govt to protect them even though their service is shit.
Muslims expecting every other religion to cater to them.
Lazy people expecting handouts because "it is their right"

We are a country raised on this principles because our leaders demonstrate that this is to be expected. So now retards voices are louder than the sensible ones. Heck even our newspaper are also reporting stupid shit like this all the time. Always putting articles that interview stupid people about those Christian crosses, about how uber is ruining lives, about how Malays must be protected. Even the newspapers are demonstrating such thoughts are the right thing to do.
