I did that as well. Balancing + rotate + alignment every 10k

What car?

Need some advice for my new set of tyres.
Currently I'm driving Nissan Serena with 205/55/R16 tyre.
Looking for new set of silent and comfort tyre.
Thanks.

XM2 or XM2 plus?

Or one of these quiet ones:

XM2/XM2 plus is good?
*
depends on what car you drive. if heavy car + heavy braking, mileage would be much lesser.

zeng testified his personal experience, mileage can very high.
my last time XM1 also used many many years.
previously Primacy3st use get 40k while other tyres like BAX2, TripleAssurance only get 28~30k.
now Primacy4 come out liao.
Primacy more for performance compare sidewall stiffer than xm2 becoz 1 more layer, but still relatively softer than others ive tried.

XM2 and Primacy I have seen them develop cracks on tyre tread blocks towards the side, very very common.

No, it's a comfort /premium tire.
Not for performance at all

Sidewall super squishy

yeah, you are spot on
I was comparing Primacy to XM2, and my limited experience with other tyres.

well, XM2+ to me feels not worth the money...better off going for Continental UC6 coz it should be around the same price? Primacy is worth that little bit extra because it has much better performance even when worn. Having just changed my tyres (to a much cheaper range - Hankook) from 5.5 years old Continental MC5, I can say that new rubber does affect braking performance. I've always thought these only affect racing cars but you can feel the significant difference even on cheap tyre.
*
How's the MC5 towards the end? Performance degraded as expected or how?

okay, now that I have changed tyre...I can provide full review of life expectations towards the end. First of all, I am what you call a very spirited driver - don't floor it at the traffic lights but throw it on the corners. So yeah, my tyres degrade quite a bit after 5.5 years / 60k km (including MCO), but I never realized how bad it was.

Grip is there all the time for normal driving (my tyre thread still just above the replacement indicator), but I can feel that the grip around corners is starting to go bad around the 5th year. I started taking more cornering exit abt 6 mths prior years to make the tyres last that little bit more but around the 5th year you can feel there is lack of performance. What I can really feel is the braking performance which is pretty bad at this wear.

There is a stretch of road around my house where I often use to go back home. It is a small bend but whatever speed you go at it, can feel the back end slide a little everytime you use it. Always thought that patch of road is just a little bad after so many years. I just tried that yesterday on the new tyres and in the rain but never felt that slide anymore! That means all this while there was a bit of an alignment issue on the worn MC5 and never realized it! Mind you, I rotate my tyres on time.

After changing to Hankook Ventus Prime 3, the difference is HUGE. I mean these are considered cheaper performance tyres. Cornering is so effortless now (I can go back to driving with 1 finger) and my confidence in braking is back to normal. The biggest shock actually is the noise. While doing pre-purchase reviews, a few shops mention Continentals are famous for being noisy. Never really realize it until after changing tyres, this cheaper Hankook is absolutely silent! In terms of dB...previous tyre can go around avg 75dB and now its 69 (reconfirm first) dB

Its been only a few days and I need to test more for better review on performance. But I think the point to take from this is whatever you choose, just change your tyres around the 4-5 year or 50k mark.
I would suggest avoiding CC6...go for something else...even if its a cheap range tyre.
*
that's a lot of mileage for MC5
that small bend near your house, do you mean, the MC5 gave you slide since beginning until end? would u use MC5 again?

really? I'd share photos of my tyres but the file format (Iphone) isn't supported sad.gif
about the slide, I think no...its probably mid-life where the slide started.
*
Thanks a lot for sharing.

I heard that MC5 degrade after mid life, becoz last time fancy this tire. Then later I heard is general character with other C tires.

Last time I use BAX2, oddly it doesn't degrade as bad as I imagined. However, mileage is quite low around 28k need to change liao.
For me, if can get 30k is consider good. Primacy3st beat that mark and almost near 40k. So I quite buy M brand.
I pay more attention to wet grip performances, so if see C vs M shootout, C wins dry, M wins wet.

Other brands want try are those Korean, especially the H brand Ventus series which continues getting good reviews.
I think you made good choice with the Ventus.

oh, thanks...never knew we could do that!
BAX 2 is GTRadial? Never tried this brand before so can't say much about it. Actually I also heard some that H's VP3 will also degrade mid-life. But since the tyre is so much cheaper I don't mind that. It only means I can change out earlier and enjoy new rubber more often.

If you have wet grip performance for a priority, the only brand to go for is Bridgestone. Nothing else comes close. And I'm not joking. I've used Silverstone, Falcon, Bridgestone, Achillies, Continental and now Hankook. Obviously the review for Hankook will be biased since its still so new but Bridgestone ranks wayyy above any of these other brands in terms of dry, wet grip and lifespan. Its just unfortunate I couldn't find Turanza T005 for my car size otherwise I'd go for that.

I went to change brand pads recently and surprisingly the workshop says I got a lot of brake pads left even after 60k mileage, so that goes to show how I look after the car despite driving like a nutcase sometimes. I mean he was literally shocked upon seeing the pads  biggrin.gif

Yeah, Turanza T004 and now T005, you are right.

I saw this a while back, got good impression on CPC6 and T005.

Hi everyone. I'm an owner of a modded Satria Neo. Planning to change the tyres (205/45/16). Would like to get your recommendations or comments on these few choices:

1) Continental MC6
2) Goodyear F1 Sport
3) Michelin PS3
4) Bridgestone RE004

Hope to hear from some of you. Thank you.
*
Price should decide between PS3 or F1 Assy2.
Reviews for that size puts F1 above PS3.

Seems like the Goodyear F1 has some positive feedbacks. Gonna be a major upgrade to my current ones which are Toyo T1R :/

Toyo mana buat? Got two types, J vs M. J is better.

Did u oversize the tire over the stock rim? Stock macam 195/50 but you use 205/45?
T1R is soft ah? How many ply sidewall constructions?

QUOTE(seanleeyoung @ Mar 2 2022, 02:06 PM)
Ahh I can't remember, it's been couple of years now. My assumption says made from M. Huge problem that I faced with the tyres was the soft side wall.

Nope the current T1R tires are 195/50. But I'm planning to change to 205/45 for the next one. Not sure about the ply sidewall but I tried to search and gotten BW?
*
Look at the physical tyres, there got cop sidewall how many plies use polyester or nylon or aramid or steel
then compare compare when u buy other tyres
press press the feeling can tell sidewall stiffness
u want more grip of same size, check speed rating, higher speed rating more grip but faster wear
oversize tyre also need see suit the rim width or not, different model can some cannot, may end up need lower pressure to even out the wear rate on the side becoz tyre donut shape
also, oversize puts more load outer edge of tyre, may got reverse effect more slide if that become too extreme

Time to change my CRV OE tire BS HL33 235/60R18.
Am looking at UC6 SUV or equivalent.
Will skip Michelin despite many good reviews. Reasons are I used 4 sets of Michelin before n present from PSS, PS3, Primacy SUV, Primacy ST. No doubt they good. But all need to be replace even way before they are botak due to peeling, cracking etc.
*
u are right
me have same issue with Michelin, at first thought the tyres are bad
but, I figured as long as it maintain good grip until botak, is better than tyre looking good but start losing grip gradually
now I live with it

i read somewhere, Michelin informed that their tyre still work great until the tyre indicator is hit. so safe u say it still works well even look botak.
*
gotta be a user to believe it
also it's pricier, but in my limited experience the mileage and grip all the way until end of tyre life is worth it

In my experience, if u get to Oscar Bukit Kemuning shop, the price is affordable to get PS3, PS4 tire. rm590 ps4 235/45/18 in my case
*
thanks

some other brand/model is better performance than M now
but, past model one, is become keras and lose grip towards end, so I'll wait and see
