Hi all, roughly how much do shops charge for (expert) tire inspection - to decide if right time to change or not? I live in KL.
*
It is a norms in KL there is no charges for inspecting tyre condition (with eyes only) response to your question/concern.

However, if labour works are involved say 'to do balancing' on tyres etc, then charges is incurred.

Tell the shop: Boss, ini tayar berapa lama/bulan/tahun lagi bolih pakai ahh? ..... then make your own decision.

Note: On a normal functioning tyre, tyre manufacturers across the world only recommends the replacement of tyres under 2 conditions:
a )tyre wear has touched the Tyre Wear Indicator mark inside the longkang (at a tread depth of 1.6 mm), or
b )tyre manufacturing week/year displayed on its side is 10 years or older.
Hairline cracks/scratches and what not are NOT a basis of tyre replacement, as often understood.

Care to upload pictures on external conditions on tyres?

Thanks. One shop feedback is I can wait another year with this set. Tyres are stock Myvi (gen 3, 2017) and age less than 5 years as per manufacturing week. Normal wear and tear is there and don't see major issues while driving or braking.

Looking at the pictures (which unfortunately does not show the Tyre Wear Indicator in the longkang) it appears to me its tread depth is still quite good.

Mind sharing what are the average tread depths at several longkangs as in how many mm deep?

Just speculating the suspension angles may be contributing to the wide spread scarring on the tyre outer edge (of front tyre?) . But don't worry, the tyre is still serviceable.

You may want to get wheel alignment checked and adjusted ..... to slow down the rate of tyre wear, assuming tyre wear has been even between inside and outside edges.

Hi guys,

Not sure what happened. Wife drove my car and found out my few months old xm2 plus got scratched and peeled at sidewall here. How? Need to change ah?

According to tyre manufacturers yes, it's recommended for replacement.

This tyre and rim wheel runs over a curb. Michelin 6 year warranty likely not applicable here.

no leaking air or 'pregnant' then no need to change, still okay to drive, since your wife already drove the car back and it didn't explode

Agree that it is still okay to drive with a side bulge (in real life temporarily) though not recommended.

Not sure anybody here has experience on continuing longevity in km or months before encountering further deterioration and/or tyre burst in real life or base on hearsay? I'd no such experience.

i have encounter the same damage to my tyres before, the lip of the rim has a 5 cm scratch and a tear at the sidewall even longer than the picture above, end up i just keep driving and go race with it for a year+ till the thread worn out and replaced it

It's good to know you have gone over a year plus with a longer side bulge.

On highway, did you dare to go over 110 km/hr with the side bulge? Town and residential area should be safer if I may guess.
