My friend recently bought a used Toyota Altis (about 8 yrs old). He experienced car skidding when it is raining twice already. He is using Westlake brand tyre (cheap) which is still new. Could the tyres be the cause of the skidding?

Just checking, what are some of the best tire brands/models that would give the best grip and to avoid hydroplaning? I don't drive too fast (low top speed), but sometimes I take fast corners and turns. Given our weather I would rather be safe than sorry, who knows if the water I am driving is wet. I also do not care about tire noise. Run-flat-tires preferable despite their disadvantages (my car has no space for spares)

My budget is less than RM10k, lower is better. But I have at least 1 more year to mentally prepare for this, so might as well go big

is this normal that the skin are peeling off at the side wall for both front outside of tyres? not sure for the wall inside because it is hard to access

I don't see any peeling off in your photo. Is it the green markings?  PS3/4 are often having the tread rubber peeling/chipping off like the other photo by ayamxxx if they're driven a bit hard.

I also have the same issue. Bought on 2018. Still can use or should change it?

I assume the size is 225/50R17.

Here are a few options.

1. Michelin Pilot Sport 4 - around RM 450
2. Michelin Primacy 4 - around RM 400
3. Continental MaxContact MC6 - around RM 400
4. Goodyear Excellence - RM 300

PS4 if you want the best performing tyre. Primacy 4 it you prefer a comfortable silent tyre. MC6 is decent but not amazing from what I have heard. Avoid Continental UltraContact UC6 as it just sits above Continental CC6 which is garbage at best. Not worth the price premium. Goodyear is the cheapest I would recommend without going into cheap China, Vietnam, Thai brand tyres. Yes the prices are tempting as they start from RM 200 to RM 250 but questionable quality.

My Michelin Pilot Sports 4 also having same issue of chipping after 45,000 km of usage (about 2 years). Almost never take any corner hard because I know tyres are not cheap. So finally gave up, and changed those 2 PS4 over the weekend with Michelin Primacy 4st (205/55/R16). MY other 2 tyres are XM2 (2017) and minimal chipping.

how often u guys do alignment and balancing?

Hi guys. Any idea on Toyo Proxes Sport? Seems like not much review on this tire. I asked my tire man, said he never get that tire before, despite that shop is mainly on Toyo.

Any recommendations for 205/55/R16 for good handling on wet road and for good braking? I don't mind the tyre noise. Using PS4 now but I would like to try other brands.

Hi, need your advice. I previously used 215/45r17 PS3 tyres. Now need to change them already. PS4 too expensive already. Was quoted RE004, Toyo TR1 or Lassa. Looking at something between RM 300 - 350 per tyre.

Your best choices other than PS4 are below.

Falken FK510 is the most proven as it has been reviewed globally by many reputable media and on average it comes out pretty good.

Goodyear F1S is the newest model so not much reviews yet but judging by the predecessor F1D5 then it should be pretty good too and generally Goodyear F1 series are always performing well and highly regarded as the top rival of Michelin PS series.

Continental MC6, not much reviews globally despite it already quite sometime in the market because it's designed and targeted for local market but those who had used it seems quite pleased in general.

If want much cheaper but seems still decent, can try Maxxis Victra I-Pro,  decent reviews globally just probably will wear out much faster cuz the tread wear rating is pretty low at 240 only.

Falken seem not readily available. Any suggestion where to find in Kota Kemuning area? MC6 seems interesting and affordable but a bit worried abt its wet performance and aquaplaning. Goodyear F1 - think may not be cheap as well...think more than RM 350 closer to RM400.

The prices in Shah Alam area is cheaper. At least rm100 cheaper than PS4 per piece for my tyre size.

Was under impression new tyres should go to the front.

Googled about this, and all sites mentioned that new tyres should go to the rear, regardless whether it's FWD or RWD.

Generally, when is necessary to do alignment?

Change absorber, lower arm or tyre: MUST? How about let's say I hit a very huge pothole or keep hitting pothole, or everyday driving on uneven road (tiny stones rather than tar road)

And how about balancing?

PS4 is the best in that list, true UHP category with very good dry/wet performance and sporty handling, reasonably comfortable and not so noisy.
MC6 is next, maybe like half a step below PS4, like entry level UHP.
P4 is 1 class lower, a touring category with more comfort and silence but less grip performance and handling.
UC6 is half a step behind P4, also touring tire category, second lowest model in Continental range so not really recommended.

Michelin made in China is still Michelin so no issues. I had used Goodyear F1 made in China too and Potenza RE003 made in Indonesia, no problems and performed as expected. But avoid those China brands.
Then just continue with it.
