Hi, looking to buy new car to replace current Bezza ( still in good condition, just wanting to upgrade)
1. Brand : Japanese
2. Budget : 130k
3. New/Used/Unreg : New
4. Specs : Any
5. Transmission : Any
6. NA or FI : Any
7. Type : 5 seater
8. Remarks : Only drives during weekend, and cross state every 1 or 2 months. Very minimal usage. Usually send for maintenance after meeting deadline rather than mileage. Please recommend suitable car for this purpose.

Thanks!

There is the usual sedan hatchback options you can test drive - City, Vios, Almera & aging Mazda2
SUV - WRV, HRV 1.5NA, CX-3

Since the Bezza still good and minimal usage, this is purely a branding upgrade?

Whats your cross state requirement, distance & passengers?
*
Yes purely branding upgrade. Cross state is just occasional balik kampung, maximum 4 passengers, around 200km only

If you can push the budget a bit over RM130K then can consider

HR-V turbo versions or wait for facelift Corolla Cross with EPB in a month or two.
*
Thanks smile.gif will consider those too. What do you mean about aging Mazda 2? Does that mean the new Mazda 2 is not good?

The current model sold here has been around for almost 10 years with a few facelift.

I hope this doesn't mean it's not reliable or anything bad 😅 I'm actually leaning more towards Mazda 2 now because I like the design and look. Will probably test drive city, vios and Mazda 2 and then the new facelift Corolla cross to decide which 1 to go with.

Corolla Cross facelifted early this year but still foot brake.
There is another one with Electronic Parking Brake coming end of 2024, I heard. If wrong dun scold me.

Madza2 is great to chuck around and pretty reliable since all the kinks have been ironed out. Just that your rear passengers get super uncomfortable as the seats designed for kids only 😅

City has the most powerful 1.5NA engine but their parts reliability seems to have gone down so if unlucky, more visits to service centre.

Vios is manufactured by Perodua. It has the same engine, chassis, gearbox, steering wheel as another car that is 24K cheaper.. the Alza

Thank you for the inputs. If I interpreted correctly you're also favoring more towards the Mazda 2 compared to the others 😂 Rear seats will not be a problem for now because I'm always traveling in max 2 pax 99% of the time.

Ya, the most important aspect BEFORE deciding,
Must test drive, a few times. And bring family, relatives, friends so that you can sit at the back too.
*
So I test drove
1. Chery tiggo 7 pro
2. Mazda cx30
3. Jaecoo j7
4. Toyota corolla cross
5. Honda City
6. Honda HRV

Cx30 gave me the best driving experience, but the space is too small. Tiggo and jaecoo are decent, but I'm still skeptical about the brand and didn't fall in love with them during test drive. I drove cross during my trip in Japan. But the cross in Malaysia has a more old fashioned interior and didn't feel the same as the Japan model ( no dual zone aircond, fully digital meter etc etc ). HRV... Turbo engine is fun but worries about historical issues with HRV and probably more oil consuming.

So then I was thinking, why not save the extra 30k and try city instead, and I was quite happy with City RS model. I couldn't convince myself to spend an extra 30k for above models because they didn't really stand out for me.

And then I was almost certain to buy a Honda City RS.. but I found one thing that I couldn't give up on.. the Electric parking brake. Only city hybrid model has it.. but for a person that only drives on weekends and occasionally crossing state every 2 or 3 months.. I don't think it'll be good for the battery.

Now I'm in a dilemma would I need to jump start my battery a lot if I seldom drive the hybrid model (sometimes I go overseas for 2 weeks too)? Should I just give up on EPB and get the petrol rs model? 🤔

b4 proceed, why not join FB City groups. It still faced the annoying steering rack issue. my buddies using the same gen City V spec, he need 3 times steering rack on 1st year and 2 times rack at 2nd year. then he sent it to carsome.

eventhough it is under warranty for the rack, it needs only weekdays appointment for the car, cz weekend SC wont entertain the rack issue.

I've consulted some friends who works for second hand car reseller, and also some friends who own a city themselves, didn't hear any complaints about steering rack issues. I guess it's really down to luck.

As Ayamxxx feedback, you might have other more pertinent issues to consider if buying Honda brand.

HRV more (petrol) consuming? With your expected mileage, this is probably worrying about pennies

Jump start batteries because of EPB?
It's just an electric motor to simulate the action of a manual lever-cable system when engaging or disengaging the brake pads. Doesn't use batteries to keep your car parked.

My 10 year old cars are left parked up to 2 months without issues, in my case batteries only flat when they are defective, alternators not charging them when engine is running or there are electrical discharge in old wirings.
*
You're right for HRV, but then probably I have to worry about HRV's steering rack issues as well.

Heard of Toyota Cross Hybrid having to jumpstart due to not using it for ~ 2 weeks. That's why I highlighted my concern. Maybe your 10 years old cars have better build compare to modern day cars? But since you say it's not a worry then I might just go ahead and buy the City Hybrid.

Thanks for reply guys!
