Plan to buy used car below 5k with cash as my backup car . Any recommendations for reliable and low maintenance just for working purpose
*
Cars at this price range is really miss or hit purchase.
70-80% of the time need to repair another 3-5K before it can be used safely.

If you can drive manual, might get a better deal with less worry about gearbox problems.

Most important is major accident or flood free. Best is buy from friends or relatives who might share any major issues for your awareness. Good luck hunting.

Rm5k too low. Rm10k should be better. My take, Proton model that come with campro cps, either manual or auto with gear.

Nice car. You have obviously done your research.

Why tell us about Livina and Bezza?

Its more of the repair cost for Recon vs new vehicle.

New Cross or HR-V don't have to worry about parts failure next 5 years under warranty.

Recon 4 yr old CBU Japan if lucky should be trouble free, if unluckly then need to set aside cash for any replacement. This cash, must have.

its a CKD, quality wise not that great. if u choose CBU, its a totally different quality. since budget already have, better take recond CBU. for workshop. many normal workshop with good google review can take this car without no issue, it just typical Toyota cars. Parts, if wanna save, buy online and bring to workshop

1999 should be ek no? and did the ek come with d15? i digress.

i mean sure, still see quite a few of these eg & eks on the road.

imo still a good car but mechanics will tell you its getting on in years, may need some tlc and cash to fix here and there. unless you know its been cared for.

using purely as backup car or planning to have some fun with it? just be careful where you park bc this is kind of a thief magnet as well, no immobiliser, the locks are probably getting worn, easy to open.

Hi forumers!

To request recommendation, this is what u need to post:
1. Brand : reliable
2. Budget : 50-80k
3. New/Used/Unreg. New Unit/pre-reg
4. Specs : minimum 1.5
5. Transmission. (Automatic)
6. NA or FI ? dont matter
7. Type. (Sedan or hatchback)
8. Remarks. : High safety rating, preferably 5 star ASEAN NCAP, foldable backseat, reliable, fair servicing cost, fuel efficient, dont need too high technology coz these things add extra headache.

I generally drive around Klang Valley, about 50-120km/day depends on my work. Will be stuck in traffic half of the time.
This will be my primary car, and will most likely keep it to be my secondary car once I upgraded in 1-2 years time.

Would appreciate suggestions.
Thanks!

Want reliable best to buy new with 5 year warranty.
Within 50-80K budget here are your options.

Body typeModel
SedanPersona, S70
HatchMyvi, Iriz
MPVAlza
SUVAtiva, Nexis

Ativa is 1.0L but Turbine boosted to 1.5L output.
Fast acceleration at low rpm makes it perfect for city start stop traffic with a higher better view.

Alza is suitable for ferrying more passengers or moving cargo if you're doing business.

However, all Perodua seats are super uncomfortable if you are bigger size. If stuck in traffic 1-2 hours daily, Proton seats are more comfortable.

If fuel consumption is not a primary concern, S70 gets you an executive look befitting of a business owner. With more passive safety than P2 milo tins.

Most important, test drive! A few times..

2012 dugong vios ~25-30k in carsome. same year honda city around same price.

any young children? if need seats with isofix go for the city, the facelifted city (chrome grill) has isofix whereas the vios does not.

do you drive long distance often? everyday driving distance? these info may help others give you better advice as well

Totalled my 2012 flx so trying to find replacement car by cash

1. Brand : any
2. Budget : 10k (plus minus 2k)
3. New/Used/Unreg.: used
4. Specs : 1.0 above
5. Transmission: auto/manual no problem
6. NA or FI ? dont matter
7. Type.: any
8. Remarks. : prefer newer model than the flx, at least 2 airbags, pretty reliable, fair servicing cost, fun to drive

This will be day to day car for work transit around 100km return trip. I have ertiga for weekend and family drive. Personally prefer persona vvt but couldnt find one within the budget.

How bad is the Preve non cfe? This model can get below 10k

Open for inputs. Tq

depends, very bad if u got a high mileage, never taken care by the previous owner for the CVT gb. once the belts burst etc, for the Punch CVT, standby anything from rm5k above for repair. Next to keep changing the OCH or most will buy an aftermarket OCH with a better material spec OCH at a few k price, but really tahan

If you looking for a fun car to drive , not too high tech then try look for pre register suzuki swift sport. Or pre register Hyundai kona/creta. All below 100k.
